It is the entrenched media and the politicians amplifying this because the narrative is no longer in their control.
Beautifully written essay.

The benefits of serendipity are intractable by design whereas throughput gains can be readily measured (or at least we think so).

The OP notes a point - "who did you think with?" -- maybe there are points based on some social graph, that adds weightage to a particular output?

Edit : Other posters have said it is AI generated, I did not catch it, but felt the point was well-made. I dont know the author, but lets assume that he is not a good writer but had these valuable insights, did this AI generation not add value here?

Re:Genuine Creativity Is Your New Moat (2026) on Friday September 11, 2026 @06:35AM (#49656135)
To the person themselves, AI replaces the creativity that one would have used their minds, but to the second person and beyond, the creativity that sparked the imagination (as simple as a few sentences describing a situation) would be quite helpful. I have'nt checked if this existed, but I had imagined if Feynman taught Biology, how would he do it? Today, AI can do that, enhancing outcomes.

while taste does matter, for many practical applications, what AI produces is 'tasty enough'
Re:Muse: Meta's personal AI agent, features and capabilities on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @09:37AM (#49626350)
i think the spread of youtube shorts and tiktoks is the reason for this. In around a minute, an expert provides a quick summary (talking points) in a digestible format that the person fully understands, but of course, no details or caveats etc are provided. Because this person now is able to understand that content, they conflate that understanding to an much broader understanding. This is even in areas they should know more, like the current geo-political or trade conflicts

edit : is there a name for what I am describing, different from the Gell-man amnesia? ( which assumes experts?).

who receives (or has received) actual payments ( other than the lawyers)? I think we need some service that is able to break this out
what makes a thinktank fake? no real authors? the about page seems rather standard to me - https://hanoverinstitute.com/hanover/about

Every thinktank has always been established to push some viewpoint.

Re:Was Modern Art a CIA Psy-Op? (2020) on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @11:30AM (#49435837)
wow, did'nt know. but thats brilliant!

however, i did wonder at the decor at my local thai restaurants and they were definitely using some ethnic pieces, and now I realize...

Re:Was Modern Art a CIA Psy-Op? (2020) on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @10:19AM (#49434638)
what do mean with the example of thailand and thai food, and why is that a psy-op? Every country tries to subsidize and dump excess production of stuff they produce

perfect is the enemy of the good...

how about some of them being ADA-conforming, with maps noting where they are?

Re:Where Did All the Public Bathrooms Go? on Monday August 24, 2026 @04:30PM (#49425441)
the public bathroom should be redesigned so that one can do only the thing it is designed for - and maybe it needs to be a single-user design.

Almost like an airline bathroom size - might be a bit claustrophobic but these are for emergencies and space saving would be big.

the doors could be wired to sensors that are connected to a central network that shows in real-time the availability and also some alarms if something is out of the ordinary etc.

considering that most non-profits barely have any data, i dont know what MS' incentive is, in not holding on to the data... it definitely must be in the TBs

this tool is really nice...

Suggestions: Can I get some transliteration when I hover over it, rather than translation? Maybe a Alt+ ?

Re:On loyalty to Your Employer on Thursday April 24, 2025 @12:12PM (#43784435)
In general, people leave or stay for their managers, not their companies.

In retrospect, in one of the earlier companies, I could see the company not doing well, but had a great boss and stayed, and then got hit by downsizing.

Bathing is no longer considered a luxury, and so will never be given up.

Kudos to the Magnet man!!

if that magnet cart design could be open-sourced, then it might be updated or made cheaper by others, and used in other places too!

Re:Ask HN: Any interesting books you have read lately? on Thursday August 17, 2023 @09:44AM (#37161451)

Great idea! Now we need a seperate thread or spreadsheet of books by eminent authors that present contradictory viewpoints!

Re:GirlfriendGPT – OSS AI Companion on Tuesday May 23, 2023 @08:34AM (#36043362)
Instead of a GirlfriendGPT, a personal assistant GPT - which is hosted in a private location, and receives feeds of all your personal data ( emails, calendar, fitbit) and adhoc ( I can send a note to it saying I drank 6 beers last night).

It also then remembers all the past conversations, and i guess by then forms a decent idea of your tastes, etc.

This would be an amazing tool!

Does this in any way enhance protection of a citizen from government or other powerful actors?
this "not knowing the neighbors" is a flimsy excuse at best. This is mostly true of any densely populated city around the world, where people move in for jobs.

In the past few years, crime in some US cities are committed by certain groups of the population - who are partly encouraged by the local powers.
