I remember the prevailing opinion in 2008 was that not bailing out would have caused much worse problems. We'll never know I guess

Agree, this is now on my short list too :-)
Re:The new iPad mini on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @10:18AM (#50259780)
There was an immense step up from 30 to 60.. I guess it stands to reason there would be more improvement past 60

I imagine it's not too different from eating a spoonful of raw cocoa powder
It looks like sodium is another step change on top of LiFePO4. I look forward to see it scale
I tried BG3 but found it strongly encourages savescumming and I got overwhelmed keeping track of the saved state tree
This seems to pretty much line up with what OP said.
Right, I'm used to the name referring to 8-bit parts without MMUs. How the times have changed...
I must have missed when de facto definition of MCU started including being on the network and doing crypto :-)

Tastes better, more filling

I have a cousin who has a certain fearlessness when it comes to home DIY projects. Unfortunately he could probably use a little more restraint, but on the whole it's an interesting quality that I noticed LLMs/coding agents help with quite a bit. They give me, an impostor syndrome type/overthinking type a certain confidence to move forward that really helps break into projects. I think this could probably be very effective in other domains like home improvement. And in case of my cousin, might also help avoid some missteps.

Hubs were valuable at our CS dept because you could sniff traffic easily with accurate timestamps
Re:Do dentists know what they're doing? on Thursday October 15, 2026 @08:08AM (#50102500)
Well, it's like any engineering project, if there is no feedback or followup how is it possible they will be consistent?
Makes one want to build a parallel web based on web of trust.
Re:New Apple TV 4K on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:58AM (#50073800)
I would love to have something that can have a snappy UI. I don't even care about resolution, I'd happily keep everything at 720p as long as the UI didn't take seconds to react.
Half the congress would be in jail for insider trading if this was taken seriously.
Re:Intel D270 GPU AI Accelerator–Up to 480 GB LPDDR5X on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @09:57AM (#50071848)
I hope you are right. I've been waiting for GPU prices to ease off ever since ASIC mining took off.
Re:Theranos.World on Friday October 09, 2026 @02:26PM (#50024725)
At the very least I would love a driving simulation based on that data. That way I can practice driving in weird neighborhoods without the stress

Wow. Do execs really talk/communicate like this in normal companies???
It could be incompetent malice.
Re:Forever Junior: The Skills AI Can't Develop for You on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @10:04AM (#49993057)
If I could have a dollar for every casual strcpy in my DIY libraries I would be a rich man. And would never dare to put them in the line of fire of unwashed Internet :-)

Terry Tao has a term for this I liked quite a bit, "productive struggle"
Re:PS5 Jailbreaks Are Escalating at an Unprecedented Pace on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @09:25AM (#49992509)
Many multiplayer games are worth playing on PS5 because there is less cheating. Due to stronger software integrity protections. Oh...
Re:House with 15m underground tunnels for sale for 300k on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @09:18AM (#49992402)
That is still an impressive water table. I wish ours was that low :-)
How much does a /24 go for these days anyway...
The vibe I get is like when the Meta VR app store product launched, and there was huge promises and optimism about all the amazing apps and experiences, but when you bought it and actually tried, it was a few juiced up flagship things and a bunch of shovelware.
OK sooo... is there a way to get investors to cover the legal costs?

Or just outright sell the patents to a competing big company and let them duke it out. Now at least you end up with some money.

Re:Burning Man Death Rates – A Short Lesson in Statistics on Thursday October 01, 2026 @09:24AM (#49921362)
How the heck do you even climb this. I don't see any places to grab hold? There are gaps between the cubes I guess but those seem awfully smooth and slippery...
Re:Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society? on Monday September 28, 2026 @11:32AM (#49879651)
Really wonder if corporal punishment wasn't such a bad idea after all
