I hate API keys. Get a horrible feeling when I see one. When will this have to expire and how do I remember to recycle it. And if it doesn't expire that is an issue too.
Re:A Critical Look at MCP on Saturday May 10, 2025 @05:57PM (#43949329)
Because they can design a protocol in the blink of an eye? They can read docs, play with an API and then figure out how to call it?
Re:The Birthday Effect on Saturday May 10, 2025 @08:53AM (#43945235)
Am very curious what the cause might be!

Doing analysis on if certain ages are more likely to have the effect and/or certain causes of death could give clues.

The article is very good and explains p values well.

Stories sure ... and I need to know how to do each of those things! Where "I" is a million people with different knowledge and backgrounds and health conditions and ages converging to the book.
Re:Business books are entertainment, not strategic tools on Saturday May 10, 2025 @05:08AM (#43944273)
Extreme! but a calendar with one of these a day plus a paragraph to explain would be pretty good.

Yes that too ... in general of course. ∀ does the heavy lifting.
A => B ≠> A' => B'
Also known as naivety
No. No and No.

Yes. Yes and Yes.

No AI is guaranteed not to do something foul.

Did that start with that merger in 2004 so back in the Sonic heyday it wasn't in to gambling?
Re:Dead Reckoning on Friday May 09, 2025 @06:35AM (#43935327)
Spoiler alert! That was brilliant. I read it then went back and like "hold on...."
Re:Dead Reckoning on Friday May 09, 2025 @06:21AM (#43935256)
The problem with this article is it is realllly good and realllly long!
Levels.fyi has really added brand value to the fyi tld
Re:Matt Godbolt sold me on Rust by showing me C++ on Thursday May 08, 2025 @06:11PM (#43931896)
I think if PhDs are bad at code it is because they ain't coding in a team 7.6 hours a day. It is not the PhDness rather than not being a coder. (Sone PhDs might code a lot as a hobby and be good).

You can also write a medical PhD without knowing how to do first aid on a snake bite.

Re:From: Steve Jobs. "Great idea, thank you." on Thursday May 08, 2025 @05:30PM (#43931565)
Mind blown. I remember getting very excited that my teacher in 1991 sent an email. I didn't see the email or use that computer. Just the concept that the email was sent to another country. Weird I barely remember what the email was about. But something along the lines of science and contacting another school.
Takes me back 20 years to using SQL Server! It let you choose clustered index or not IIRC.
It is cooler in the shade. Now... PhD, please.
Re:AI code is legacy code on Thursday May 08, 2025 @07:00AM (#43924988)
Yeah AI at least now is so energy inefficient. There is only so much sun hitting earth we can be stupid with. Using AI for everything makes electron apps seem efficient! Once the hype runs out and you pay full price much AI today will be unattractive. Hopefully that leads to more efficient AI. (Which I suspect is more interesting)
Re:AI code is legacy code on Thursday May 08, 2025 @06:57AM (#43924979)
Turtles all the way down: why bother with a GPU when you can get AI to guess the attention operation. Just tell the AI what the AI should do and it can use AI to compute the AI!

And a pinch of ReLU
Re:Docs like code in basic terms on Thursday May 08, 2025 @01:18AM (#43923278)
Not really. As a techie I prefer a CMS over say Jekyll.
Re:Docs like code in basic terms on Thursday May 08, 2025 @01:16AM (#43923272)
I think from reading that, docs like code is roughly something like using Github and CI to manage docs rather than say WordPress or Confluence?
Instead it disobeys commands, uses up your resources then you find it never belonged to you in the first place.
Re:Claude's system prompt is over 24k tokens with tools on Wednesday May 07, 2025 @08:21AM (#43914732)
Is that dot or cross?
Re:Claude's system prompt is over 24k tokens with tools on Wednesday May 07, 2025 @08:17AM (#43914697)
Short AI. Hope you are more solvent than a glue factory!

Re. Prompt Length. Somewhere in the comments people talk about caching. Effectively it is zero cost.

Where prompt is an adjective... for sure

Re:Launch HN: Exa (YC S21) – The web as a database on Tuesday May 06, 2025 @06:28PM (#43910299)
Very nice! Like a Databricks for Google, or perhaps think of it as Google backend as a service (at least their AI like backend not the main search)

It disrupts anyone who merely does one thing this does. E.g. contact building app can be done by this. I imagine many "wrapper" apps can be built on this.

I am serious though. It felt like using databricks a little bit, obviously without all the functionality but that will come.

I'm bullish! Modulo competition. Someone who does this makes their billion.

The family being utterly insane was a minor factor.

Shane there was no concept of self defence.
