Re:Ask HN: How to Grieve? on Tuesday January 18, 2022 @04:46PM (#29986412)
From my personal observation people with responsibiltes grieve at a later time and don't like most at the the of the incicent. It takes about 3 months to grieve some cases about a year later.
Re:Cost of Attrition on Friday January 14, 2022 @02:39PM (#29939279)
Enforcing staying at job via law enforcement is the definition of slavery. If people want to quit for higher wages let them. Market will move to equilibrium.
Re:Leetcode has taught me that I'm a bad engineer on Wednesday January 05, 2022 @04:04AM (#29806775)
I am quite puzzled how are you not good after solving 400 problems. I thought if you can solve about about 50 problems you can clear any faang interview.
Re:Willingness to look stupid on Saturday October 23, 2021 @04:46AM (#28966749)
Probably this is true but how to say this without being judged as arrogant.
DonKnuth comes to mind.
Re:Summary of C/C++ integer rules on Friday April 02, 2021 @01:45PM (#26673785)
What is the reference to "Dons"?
Re:Show HN: I made a tool to convert images of tables to CSV on Wednesday March 10, 2021 @08:44AM (#26411105)
My experience in image to text conversion softwares has not given confidence to use in production or as part of reliable workflow. What's unique or different about this tool compared to its predecessors? Does it use any novel algorithms, neural nets or any other techniques?

> "Religious books standing the test of the time.."

Humans started to stay in one location after the invention of agriculture which is quite recent about 10000 years. The mass gathering and agriculture Only after the invention of agriculture some people were able to have leisure time and mass organization became necessary. Bible is roughly 2000 years old. Islam is probably 800 years old. The vedic caste Hinduism is about probably 600 to 800 years old.

Religion is blip within a blip.
Re:Tips for a Better Life on Thursday December 24, 2020 @01:50AM (#25525544)
It's annoying to see people signalling social status, but in reality that does have an effect. So keep identity small is good for the individual but not good for society.
Re:Tips for a Better Life on Wednesday December 23, 2020 @11:52PM (#25525150)
Item 14 says if -w3 is added the search result would be better. The symbol "-" isto filter out the results , but in this example whar does it mean to filter out "W3" mean ?

>will return inferior results compared to:

Re:The State of Linux Debuggers on Monday December 14, 2020 @11:40PM (#25427073)
Give it a try, but stick to vanilla gdb tui mode. It's worth learning.
Re:Why India has become a different country on Sunday November 29, 2020 @03:38PM (#25247874)
HN comments on india are mostly pro caste. I believe this is due to first generation upper class Brahmins who are the majority here for now
Cool. I am definitely missing this.
Exactly. But I am glad that forced me to look at other options and found Emacs pdf-tools mode which is amazing
Re:Why 2$ price rise of Netflix is Slashdot news worthy? on Saturday October 31, 2020 @08:54AM (#24951043)
The Netflix premium price rise of 1 and 2$ is in the front page of Slashdot. I could not understand why is this such a huge deal to be news worthy ? Am I missing something ?
Re:Over 90% of Indian techies in the US are upper-caste Indians on Tuesday September 22, 2020 @05:53AM (#24552689)
> A man who worked has worked for 20 yrs, paid taxes, provided for his family (in US and back home) ...

You don't understand what you have taken for granted. In the name of hindu religion, citing the vedas education has been denied to all non-brahmins(other than priestly caste) until Britishers arrived. This is the reason majority of the indians are first college goers in their family. For us what you described is the definition of heaven.

Re:Assange Hearing Day 7 on Friday September 11, 2020 @12:20PM (#24444363)
But it's not shocking in the Muslim world. They do it to themselves much worse in the name of Islam. That is different compared to non-Muslim countries.
What else could have been done other than crypto scam to get away without being caught ?
org-roam, pdf-tools Emacs mode, anki, org-mode.
Remote work fights against ageism. That is one huge plus to me. I am in my 30's and worry about getting unemployed due to ageism. I am happy rote work is embraced.
Emacs pdf-tools mode is very much underrated. Checkout the list of org-roam ecosystem emacs packages. I don't know if Emacs supports excel or word.
Search can not be avoided. The alternative to search is to go through everything that has been read which is not feasible. Tagging is the only solution. The user has to remember the tags which is referred to as context in zettlekeaten method. I could not see any workaround to this problem
Re:Things You Should Never Do (2000) on Saturday July 04, 2020 @12:22AM (#23730097)
Is Joelspolsky overrated ? There is no public code available to verify his competency like JohnCarmack. His writings are more about marketing and general technical knowledge. In my opinion he is overrated.
Re:Make educated wireless router/AP upgrade decisions on Monday June 29, 2020 @08:18AM (#23676864)
Buy a router that supports flashing openwrt. It is very transparent to debug and supports lots of features in addition to adblock, monitoring, etc at the router level.
Re:Life is 90% of my use cases for org-mode on Monday June 29, 2020 @06:28AM (#23676184)
There is another Emacs package "pdftools" which is very underrated. It's amazing package, and just like org-mode pdftools will also be useful for the next several decades
I like the old plugin model for its one click development cycle. The new plugin system forces to build the library which make the compile execute run cycle much longer
The only thing that bugs me about him is his take on religion. He claims he is not muslim but on multiple occasions he defends Islam and also he is mildly anti Jewish. He is against Richard Dawkins stating his math is wrong. I could not find the source of the problem that Richard Dawkins made an error in calculating. If somebodycan point out to math problem preferably if the problem is in python notebook for verification, that would be great
Re:Tools for Better Thinking on Friday May 29, 2020 @08:16AM (#23349049)
This happens all the time. This might sound cynical but it's impossible to change the attitude of some people. Any tips to avoid them without being quoted as "not a team player".
More importantly remote work tremendously helps overcome bias against age. Everything else trumps in comparison of not having a job due to age bias.
