Re:Astra can read and write weights to improve Qwen on Monday November 02, 2026 @03:52PM (#50343543)
Why?

How is this different from other things LLMs are trained to manipulate?

Re:Postgres 19 is late, and it's AI's fault on Monday November 02, 2026 @01:51AM (#50333841)
> You can prove your software has no bugs

That very much depends on got you define “bug” and how you specify your product requirements. Also, you have to assume the specs are correct.

Re:Emacs Turns 50 on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:06PM (#50276876)
Erlang the runtime sure. But Emacs is an application with these properties. There is no editor like Emacs for Erlang (some small clones I am sure) and no other user application utilizing this feature.

Smalltalk is a development environment and an applications platform. The development tools are as extensible and user customizable as Emacs. And like Erlang it is also a runtime you can package software for. Any GUI or server software. For Emacs you can probably do the same, but I’m not convince many users would find the GUI familiar.

Re:Getting ready to operate GNU Taler in Germany on Friday October 23, 2026 @02:01PM (#50212985)
You seem to be conflating price increases with the money supply increasing.
Re:Getting ready to operate GNU Taler in Germany on Friday October 23, 2026 @01:52AM (#50204931)
That incentives not participating in the economy instead of participating in the economy.
It’s in the name. They are secure!
Re:Tsrs: A Port of TypeScript to Rust on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @01:52AM (#50176583)
I already started manufacturing 100 shipping containers of left pad machines. Taking orders.
Re:How to make System 1 LLMs show System 2 competencies? on Friday October 16, 2026 @12:40PM (#50120696)
I have never heard of ”System 1” and ”System 2” thinking before.

Wikipedia implies it’s just some pop-sci (psychology even, so extra pop) book from a few years ago. A book heavily criticized for relying on shoddy science. Why are the terms used to describe anything by anyone trying to sound serious or scientific?

Re:I Love Software Rendering on Friday October 16, 2026 @12:33PM (#50120573)
The author likes the look of the tradeoff made due to the limitations CPU power imposed on the rendering model for real time 3D games 30 years ago.

Yeah you can hack configurations or create your own game to mimic this look.

If you read the post you will see it’s not only about the texture sampling, but also the color depth.

OP picked a good headline. You are fighting for semantics nobody cares about, and picking a more complicated synecdoche.

Re:AI Models Can Provably Hide Arbitrary Capabilities on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @01:42AM (#50067235)
Data is extracted from paying customers and sold all the time.
Re:Fingerprints Are the New Cookies on Monday October 12, 2026 @02:01AM (#50051899)
Sounds like a mess! How in that system will people get access to credit for things like buying fast food or books?
Re:Deno Is Joining Cloudflare on Friday October 09, 2026 @06:01PM (#50027130)
Node is old I’ll give you that. Dependable is debatable.
Yeah hopefully there is a bug. But negligence causing troubles for users due to useless anti features is not much better.
Re:Remove and Disable Apple Macos27 AI Models Tool on Monday October 05, 2026 @02:14AM (#49961254)
Disk space is there to be used.

Are these files particularly hard to clean out if your disk is getting full and you need the space?

Supply is severely limited and there is not really any competition making RAM chips, so it is kind of not a commodity and not a market.

But you are right someone will arbitrage the price, like scalpers selling concert tickets.

Re:Australia says OpenAI agent hacked into government website on Thursday September 24, 2026 @01:09AM (#49826494)
From where are you getting this post-it note nonsense?

Media reported it as a spear phishing attack from a Russian hacker group: https://www.vice.com/en/article/how-hackers-broke-into-john-...

Re:Did OpenAI solve the wrong Navier-Stokes problem? on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @04:53PM (#49807935)
Is it really impressive, or just kind of interesting?

If they spent about 10 GWh solving the problem (was it solved?) then that is much much more than 500 lifetimes of a human brain working.

Where are the revolutionary software products?

Re:Can we stop with the uptime percentages? on Friday September 18, 2026 @01:05PM (#49757212)
No lag time for popular services. Always faster than e.g. GitHub’s or Chat GPT’s status pages.
Re:I didn't sign the Fields medallists' letter on Friday September 18, 2026 @02:04AM (#49750658)
Correction: you don’t _have_ to, but technological advancement is faster if you do.
But the comment says ”we were building packet sniffers” … and needed mirroring as part of that.
Re:Can we stop with the uptime percentages? on Wednesday September 16, 2026 @03:14PM (#49731576)
Nothing beats downdetector.com anyway. Always quicker!
Re:How to write an effective software design document on Monday September 14, 2026 @11:12AM (#49698309)
> you have not optimized for quality, extensibility, customer experience, or maintainability

A ”software design” document does not optimize for either of those.

In the same way dynamic personalized pricing in the supermarket is different from supermarkets being able to set prices before.

Re:Yes/No/Cancel causes Aspirin sales to soar (2007) on Friday August 21, 2026 @12:02PM (#49390113)
You are deleting the document from your computer.

In some instances this could be a file on disk. But it does not have to be.

Producing more tokens means charging more money to solve a given task.
Re:The August 17 outage, and the work ahead on Friday August 21, 2026 @02:04AM (#49384351)
Do you believe this is a significant part of the increased GutHub traffic, people’s personal software?
