Why does everyone love AI and is impressed by AI quality but when the time comes to admitting that they use the magical AI, no one wants the watermark?
I don’t. I have other hobbies that don’t involve staring at a screen all day
Re:Cool website to remove the paywall on any article on Tuesday February 20, 2024 @10:58PM (#39449974)
Maybe a paywall is there for a reason
But why don’t you just buy a good laptop from manufacturer who support Linux like Dell or System76 instead?
Re:Daunting papers/books and how to read them on Saturday February 03, 2024 @02:57AM (#39238357)
Just don’t read it then. You are not the intended audience for that book. It’s ok to not to read a book
Re:Anime is a $25B industry that pays its animators pennies on Saturday January 20, 2024 @09:55PM (#39075082)
That’s because no one wants to draw degeneracy. You read stories about what artists had draw because “rent was due” and just shake your head
It’s great for all the people still living in 1992. The rest want good collaboration tools with a grammar checker
Also, I cannot believe that some cars (looking at you, Subaru) don’t have a pause button, only mute. Not an issue when you’re playing to music. But when you are Listening to an audiobook, it’s another story

Add two more envelopes:

“Blame covid “

“Blame market conditions”

CUDA = C++ on GPUs. Compute shader - subset of C with a weird quirks.
Re:Lessons from building GitHub code search [video] on Thursday December 14, 2023 @01:47AM (#38638535)
It boggles my mind that github search is case-insensitive and doesn't search the whole words. For a search term getInfo it will return: GetInfoCell

Don't get me started about how it's harder than it needs to be to limit the search to your own repos

Here’s an idea. Instead of the rod being parallel with the wall, have multiple small rods perpendicular to the wall. They can easily accommodate full size coat hangers. Problem solved
Mark my words, 2023 is the year of Wayland
Re:Typing Fast Is About Latency, Not Throughput on Friday November 10, 2023 @10:27AM (#38220016)
I wish my productivity was bound by my typing speed and not my thinking
People here moaned that they despise ads and gladly will pay not to see them. Well, this is the opportunity to do so
To get to Harvard, you need to be a valedictorian or close to that. And not every valedictorian gets to go to to Harvard. It’s not a surprise then that Harvard is full of overachievers with straight A’s.
Of course Basic Universal Income works in experiments. You select a group of people and give them money for some time. To be honest, it’s no longer basic nor universal. It’s just income.
Re:Feds find "substantial'' safety issue at SC nuclear plant on Monday October 09, 2023 @04:45PM (#37825278)
Nuclear subs and air carriers are part of deterrence strategy. So, most reports will be classified, unlike for nuclear plants. Never the less, we know about numerous accidents: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_sunken_nuclear_submari...

Also, let’s not forget about Hanford site, which was part of the US nuclear program

Re:Feds find "substantial'' safety issue at SC nuclear plant on Monday October 09, 2023 @02:44PM (#37823748)
Good news is that nuclear energy is safe and has zero long lasting ecological effects! Also management and governments are always competent. Otherwise, we would be in big, big trouble
Re:How to Compete with Patreon on Sunday October 08, 2023 @03:18PM (#37813562)
I'm not convinced by the arguments.

Do the majority of creators want anonymity? I don't think so. They can set up a company and hide behind it if they do. Being an anonymous platform invites tax evasion and money laundering. Do you really want to deal with that?

Why would I open up an API so that competitors can swoop in? What benefit that would provide to me? No one will use API over UI.

The author clearly wants a donation platform that caters to a very niche group of users. I would guess there are less than 100 people in the world who want it (and do not need it)

No, they don’t. Vocal impersonators are a thing since forever
Re:AMD May Get Across the CUDA Moat on Friday October 06, 2023 @04:11PM (#37795689)
I call it the 90% problem. If AMD works for 90% of my projects, I would still buy NVIDIA, which works for 100%, even though I’m paying a premium
Re:One man’s quest to end cheating in virtual cycling on Wednesday September 27, 2023 @02:30AM (#37670935)
Go outside, touch the grass and ride on the streets.
You clearly weren't on reddit. Everyone there will urge you to switch to Godot even though your game is almost finished and Godot doesn't have feature parity.

It reminds me of the linux debate:

- A: I hate Windows telemetry

- B: Then switch to linux. It's as good

- A: But it doesn't have a good video editor.

- B: You should develop your own video editor and share it with the community

- A: Ughh... I just want to edit my videos...

I use linux and love it, but there are users who need Windows or Unity.

When you legalize all the drugs, junkies magically transform into pharmaceutical consumers

> There are plenty of disabilities that don't allow people to use technology

What I meant is that the majority of people don’t have a disability that would prevent them from using technology. The ones who do, should and do get assistance

> Not to mention, there are plenty of people who are religiously or ideologically against new technology

If your religion or ideology is to live in an ancient world, by all means do. Just don’t come to the 21st century and complain that you cannot enjoy the modern society

I’m so tired of those articles. There is no physical or mental disability preventing people using modern technology.

Imagine this article printed in 1900: Cannot read, no entertainment: How the book world is failing the illiterate

Or in 1960:

No phone, no appointment: How the telephone world is failing the non tech-savvy

Why can’t people be responsible for their actions or lack of them

It’s brings a lot confidence that a nuclear power was built through a legal loophole.
