I really love those weird collections that are open to the public. I wonder how many people out there are obsessively collecting and cataloging that one theme in their basement.
Oh well, I guess we have another once-in-a-lifetime economic crisis ahead of us. Ready your tax dollars, prepare the bailouts! We've got some billionaires to save.
I'm sure capitalism will find a solution to the issue it caused, right?
The economic bet there are enough mentally ill people who reject reality... looking at the state of affairs in tech and politics this might actually pay off.
Re:Seattle Ultrasonics: Ultrasonic Chef's Knife on Tuesday September 23, 2025 @03:59AM (#45344114)
So, some tech business took something that is practical, robust, and low maintenance, and then added a deteriorating battery, delicate electronics, and the need to constantly charge a f-ing kitchen knife. Bullshit innovation is reinventing things, but worse. I wouldn't be surprised if they at some point added AI powered cutting modes and a subscription service, because the target audience clearly is gullible morons that are easily fooled by fancy ideas of vaguely sci-fi concepts.
"Let's not buy from Russia, it's an overt dictatorship lazily cosplaying as a democracy that's waging wars on other nations and killing innocent civilians."

Is it autobiographical?
"Denmark completely autistic." -Unnamed US federal government secretary
I know capitalism and I don't always get along, but it's so good to see its desire for profitability and the need to protect investors actually kill a business that needs killing. Nice.
What contemporary economic ideology has taught me: If it sounds too good to be true, it usually isn't. And the Venn diagram of scams and business is almost a circle in a sense that companies and criminals don't have your interests in mind. There's really no reason to trust either.
Re:The Dying Dream of a Decentralized Web on Wednesday September 10, 2025 @03:16AM (#45194314)
Is Web3 just regular internet with ponzi schemes bolted onto it?
Re:Tesla market share in US drops to lowest since 2017 on Tuesday September 09, 2025 @03:03AM (#45178493)
Is it because the creepy breeding kink, drug addict CEO playing a neo nazi edgelord who supports far-right extremist parties all over the world? Or is it the noncompetitive products that were oversold for decades? FSD scam? Humanoid robot scam? Cyberanything fail?
Re:No adblocker detected on Tuesday September 09, 2025 @02:46AM (#45178353)
Ads are not the problem. It's the ad-tech surveillance and the malvertising. There are ways to show ads that are not a threat. When online services choose to become hostile, adblockers are the defense. I don't mind ads, I don't mind paying for services without ads, in fact I do for multiple services and news. I don't want surveillance ad-tech anywhere near my devices. It's the business decision of the company, that aides the worst enduring tech businesses with data collection and targeted scams and malware. So fuck'em. I'll steal gladly from overt assholes.
Put at risk, or willfully given to their masters? All the ghouls suckling Yarvin's teats like Thiel want their tech driven tyranny, and SS data will help them on their way.
Re:Uncle Sam shouldn't own Intel stock on Tuesday August 26, 2025 @02:55AM (#45023146)
The US is trying CCP-style state-capitalism? Also, the glorious leader and great GOP chairman Trump gave his owners a great opportunity for insider trade. Last time be publicly bragged about it, too.
It's not just the UK, but the whole of Europe. With the rise of literal neo-nazi parties like reform uk, the german afd, the french front national, and whatnot out there, widespread surveillance legislation will be turned against freedom and democratic opposition by the emerging far right extremists when given power. A tech-fueled fascist surveillance state, who thinks that's a good idea?
Re:macOS 26 Tahoe's Dead Canary Utility App Icons on Tuesday August 26, 2025 @02:44AM (#45023086)
In my hobby we have "grognards" - the grumpy old farts that detest everything new and pick on every little change. That opinion piece was written by a full on grognard who cries with bullshit arguments about the collapse of civilization because "corpo changed product" from inarticulate icons to inarticulate icons.
Re:AI is booming so are household utility bills on Tuesday August 26, 2025 @02:24AM (#45022930)
The AI hype is probably collapsing soon. But that won't solve the issue. It's basically the only thing that drives the ponzi scheme, sorry, the "stock market growth". It'll end in tears for working people again.
"Last week I’m in a café, rewatching the same JavaScript tutorial for the 23rd time. Next to me? A 16-year-old casually building a Discord bot that streams live sports data."

You don't learn software development by just looking at tutorials, you learn software development by solving something real, something you want to accomplish. The 16yo probably isn't as great a coder, but they wanted something, a discord bot, and they just built it. Tutorials are a dull chore. Solving real problems will teach you the stuff you actually need and give a feeling of success like no tutorial or made up training project ever can, no matter how well it is presented. Also, if you're 9 years into coding as a hobby and cannot whip up a to-do-app almost instantly you really should rethink how you spend your time and effort. Woodworking is also fun.

Re:AI Is a Mass-Delusion Event on Tuesday August 19, 2025 @02:55AM (#44948951)
Unsurprising. Your virtual girlfriends are just linear algebra and the ELIZA effect.
'Chain-of-thought AI "degrades significantly" when asked to generalize beyond training.' - yeah thanks Captain Obvious.
"As a search company, we care passionately — perhaps more than any other company — about the health of the web ecosystem." Yeah, right, complete and utter bullshit. This really reads like the crisis PR of a parasitical ad tech business.
Re:Age Verification Doesn't Need to Be a Privacy Footgun on Friday August 01, 2025 @04:04AM (#44754134)
The corpos and people lobbying for this "age verification" aren't interested in child protection. They are just abusing child protection for their own gain: data collection. There is safe and secure tech to verify age without sending personal data. But the same lying assholes who claim to do it for the children are just vile agents of surveillance capitalism.
Re:“No tax on tips” is an industry plant on Friday August 01, 2025 @03:13AM (#44753867)
Another symptom, another op ed without any understanding. Usually I'd say something like: minimum wage equals minimum effort. Or: stealing from the corpos is morally justified. But in the light of things: GLORY TO CAPITALISM! You wanted it, you will get it, unlubed, long, and thick. So bend over, chumps, because you're in for a ride you're not ready for.
Re:I made a website that makes you cry on Friday August 01, 2025 @03:09AM (#44753836)
Well, I was reassured I'm just a cynical old bastard, so that's worth something, I guess. To me all the videos I saw, around a dozen, were all (by accident?) emotional cheap-shots, the low-hanging fruit of manipulation. For example: When I see a clip of Brooks Hatlen, the elderly librarian from The Shawshank Redemption, make his final voyage after being released, I get shown an old man take his own life (spoiler! but the movie is 30 years old now, so c'mon). That itself is somewhat sad, yes, but the feelings come from the context of the movie and what the viewer is shown before. So the clip falls flat, even with knowledge of the movie/book. Simply getting shown sad things does not make me cry, especially in short clips out of context.
Re:My Theory: Advertising is a lot like capitalism itself on Tuesday July 29, 2025 @04:13AM (#44720548)
Advertising is just part of the gospel of the capitalism religion, with its prophets and preachers of the markets, its churches and cathedrals of profit, its dogma and prayers, its even got its cults of crypto currency and the fanatics that believe in profit without production. Advertising is just like the religious pamphlets of old, today just praising the gods of consumption and excess, promising salvation.
Whatever the causes, be it cars, industry, certain classes of chemicals and particles, there will be a vicious fight about regulating them, since the ideological divisions are now drawn along the lines of anti-cancer and pro-cancer politics.
Re:12ft.io Taken Down on Tuesday July 22, 2025 @02:42AM (#44643853)
Now I'm going to steal even harder from the corpos.
The Zuckerbot needs a quite, remote place to hang his skin to dry, or to plot whatever supervillain-y plots the guy is plotting. Probably Metaverse 2.0! With Superintelligence!! And why to tech billionaires all aim to look so much like the evil adversaries from James Bond movies?
