That went into effect a month ago. Claude prose quality has been a disaster at least since Opus 4.7

That makes no sense. Watermarking only became a thing in the past month. Claude has been spewing unreadable slop for much longer than that.

ChatGpt/Codex is nowhere near the level of sloppy vomit that Claude generates, so that theory doesnt really hold up.
Re:The safest job from AI may be writing

Claude writing quality got unbelievably bad with Opus 4.7, with no improvement in Fable. Opus 4.6 was fine. Im starting to see it as a security risk - my brain just can't process its word vomit, so just tell it to go on, implement whatever

You can tell Opus 5 or Fable to route answers through 4.6 for rewrite

Telling Opus 5 or Fable to route answers through Opus 4.6 usually works pretty well. 4.7 really was the version where the writing style became horrible. I also have a Codex subscription in addition to to Claude 20x, that i use mainly for rewrites of Claude doc vonit and explaining Claude's plans

F80 would have been the perfect autofocus film camera if only it could meter and stop down manual lenses. F100 is just too heavy
Want the best software for editing photos? No thanks, I'd rather use inferior open source solutions. Go Gimp

I have added a skill to make Opus 4.8 use Opus 4 6 to translate its answers into teadable English, sine it had much higher quality prose. Im seriously considering switching from Claude 20x to Codex because I just cant read more of of Opus or Fable's walls of text

Films are mostly post processed digitally - but some, like Oppenheimer, are color graded the old optical way. While Dune was shot digitally, printed on film, then scanned back in again!

Yeah, i use online LightRoom for checking images in the darkroom actually, but for serious use, the old desktop app is still king. There are alternatives, like the excellent Capture One, but none available on Linux. I could live without Photoshop, but not Lightroom or similar.

Gimp is NOT a good image editor for someone who uses Photoshop professionally. This idiotic claim keeps coming up, year after year, along with suggestions for opensource replacements for InDesign, Illustrator, LightRoom - there really really arent any valid opensource alternatives to most creative software apart from Blender, and Krita for a linited subset of what Photoshop covers. I would have switched to Linux immediately if it wasnt for Adobe

Re:Canon EF and RF Lenses – All Autofocus Motors
on Monday March 10, 2025 @02:17PM (#43323779)
Except if you mount an old, so called pre AI lens, on certain Nikons, you will have to disassemble the camera to get it off. Many modern Nikons can't autofocus older AF lenses due to not having a motor. And many AF film SLRs couldnt meter with manual lenses. So far from perfect compatibility.
Nikon F mount was introduced in 1959. The oldest mount used today is probably Leica M from 1954

"A bunch of movies" you say. If you want to talk insane ambition and vision, technically groundbreaking and giant scale filmmaking that was so far ahead of its time it took decades to be recognised, Abel Gance's 1927 Napoleon fits the bill nicely.

Nikon d850, their top model and one of the best slr's ever made came out in 2017.
My most used digital camera is a Canon 5d from 2005, I prefer it over my much newer Fuji XT3 most of the time because of its colors. (And one of my most used analog cameras is a 1939 Leica)
