Nice work but change name asap, pivot to something original

This would be good paired with:

I've seen a number of posts like this usually wanting a specific device that is good for kids that has the appeal of old computers. The answer is that any laptop loaded with creativity app works great if you have an attitude shift that it is a creative device rather than a consumption device. Choose your apps and get used to building things with it. Avoid social media, youtube, netflix, and the fun will come back.

I can see VSTs being replaced with AI that will create instrument sounds or effects based on description text
Re:Tell HN: Ludum Dare game jam this weekend on Friday September 29, 2023 @03:36PM (#37709125)
The shortest jam I've done so far was a week (PyWeek) and although my team won we barely finished. 48/72 hours seems tough but I really want to try it.
On the bright side, it was a great week for Godot
Python

AI music will be cool for 10 minutes and then you realize one of the reasons you listen to music is about shared human experience. If it’s just a generated blip that everyone is generating and resharing it’ll eventually have the same appeal as blogspam. AI music will cause people to go back to seeking out performed music played on instruments or in a live setting. You'll have music sites that only allow music that has videos of humans playing/creating it. Every AI action will have an equal but opposite human reaction.

But what if AI conducts it?

Zoombinis. It's a fun game full of different logic puzzles.

Because then Apple wouldn't get its 30% cut or force you to buy a Mac to develop for iOS
The transfer from Google Music to Youtube Music didn't even work for me. It kept giving me an error message about my account not being valid.
My text-based music sequencer supports some music theory concepts and also has a shell:

I have this problem and I got one of those light therapy lights on my desk and it helps me wake my brain up. Maybe try one of those.
Re:I found a correlation between chess rating and depression on Monday January 02, 2023 @05:15PM (#34224444)
For me depression comes when I have low amounts of energy, which I've since realized is affected by my nutrition. If I eat too many carbs or sugar, I get extremely fatigued and then get depressed. It also causes me to daydream and have a hard time concentrating. Maybe keep a close eye on what you're eating/drinking and see if it's related.

I haven't worked on it in a while, but you might like textbeat (https://github.com/flipcoder/textbeat). It's a midi tracker and REPL that lets you type in music theory-like terminology and plays it. It's nowhere near a modern DAW but it's cool for tinkering and learning.
Audio stuff: virtual instruments and effect plug-ins
Re:Show HN: A saxophone with keyboard keys, in Rust on Monday November 21, 2022 @02:31AM (#33689867)
I own a LinnStrument and it's fantastic. I created a custom note layout for it to make it easier to play: https://github.com/flipcoder/linnstrument-wholetone. The firmware is also open source. It feels like the Linux of instruments.
Re:A beginners guide to Esperanto (2003) on Tuesday September 27, 2022 @09:37PM (#33003328)
Today is "hodiaŭ". It uses the regular h.

Ĥ/ĥ is less common in esperanto and in some cases has been replaced with other letters.

Re:A beginners guide to Esperanto (2003) on Tuesday September 27, 2022 @07:19PM (#33002400)
The fact that its a constructed language is a big part of the appeal. It's fun to speak something that's logically structured and easy to learn. It doesn't have anywhere near the level of content of other languages, but it's still enjoyable.
Re:A beginners guide to Esperanto (2003) on Tuesday September 27, 2022 @06:35PM (#33002006)
I set up my keyboard so I can type the additional letters with the right alt key. There are keyboard layout options for Windows, Mac, and Linux as well as mobile keyboards.

For example: Right alt + c = ĉ

For linux its pretty simple, you just have to use: setxkbmap -layout us -variant altgr-intl -option esperanto:qwerty

Re:Facebook proven to negatively impact mental health on Thursday September 22, 2022 @10:41PM (#32947385)
I'm the opposite. When I see people doing things better than me I get a surge of energy and motivation. And if I'm around people that are lazier I'll start being lazier. Not sure why that is. If you learn what motivates you you can use it to your advantage.
Re:Show HN: AutoHotkey for Linux on Tuesday August 30, 2022 @11:02PM (#32657899)
One reason is because there are already a lot of existing AHK scripts out there. This could allow them to be cross-platform.
Re:Finnish as a world language? on Saturday August 27, 2022 @03:22PM (#32622192)
After I commented I realized you're referring to Toki Pona in the second part of your comment. Yeah you're definitely going to be limited with your thinking. That's not really a problem with Esperanto.

Check out this talk by Tim Owen where he goes over the basics of Esperanto and why it's so easy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCiFMD8RNbg

Here's a cheat sheet you might find interesting: https://i.imgur.com/FKasIpP.jpg

Re:Finnish as a world language? on Saturday August 27, 2022 @12:11AM (#32615579)
I definitely consider Esperanto to be a full language. I like how the vocabulary is based on a prefix/suffix system that reduces the amount of words you have to know, and the grammar is very simple and consistent.

> The big question is really if its possible to 'think' in the language. Have you been able to get into the stage where its like thinking?

I was approaching that stage when I was learning it, but I'm a bit rusty now since I haven't used it in a while. There are definitely people at that level though. Check out Esperanto youtubers like Evildea.

> But then your thought feels limited?

Usually if you can't think of a word, you can insert the English word in your thinking and make a mental note to look up the vocabulary later.

It's a really fun language. It's a shame there aren't more speakers.

Re:Finnish as a world language? on Friday August 26, 2022 @04:25PM (#32612345)
I found Toki Pona to be way too simple and there's too much ambiguity. It's a neat idea though. I like Esperanto better.
