Interesting. Given the tone you must use MPTCP with options. Hardly anyone does.
It's interesting to me that I pointed to fun game mechanics as primary and you point to Tetris and Minecraft as counterpoints.
We don't really want creative games. We do want fun ones. Fundamentally, games are fun mechanics paired with a narrative that supports the mechanics. Note that the narrative is supportive, and fun is primary.

Maximizing profit often points the gaming cos towards gating the fun behind a paywall, or teasing the fun that could be had behind the next payment. It turns out that players don't find that fun (see Star Wars Battefront 2).

The argument made in the article seems inarguable, but I don't see how a coronary artery calcium score is going to prevent a heart attack. You gotta do statins, exercise, and eat right basically no matter what. FWIW I had a coronary artery calcium score ordered by my doctor at my last checkup. It was $120.

Social media is demonstrably bad for mental health. Paired with phones it's even worse. Facebook stopped their internal research before it began calculating the body count, but there absolutely is one. I've attached one source, but these findings are widely reported, and you will find many more with a cursory search.

Totally fair. The source code is open. Thanks for all the fish.

Cool! VC capital at work for the common people.

> to train AI robots

LOL total bullshit.

This is the justification you make to yourself. People drive the speed limit. I do, never had a speeding ticket. It has never been dangerous.

It just shows up in the box. Their inventory is comingled.
Re:Yandex Takes a Second Data Center Hit in 48 Hours on Saturday October 10, 2026 @02:34PM (#50035762)
I also would not want those in my neighborhood.

A new reason to not want a DC in my neighborhood.
Re:All the numbers: Amazon Prime Day 2026 powered by AWS on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @03:35PM (#49997732)
Naively I would have thought $500 for 20TB was a good deal.
Re:Ping Identity Is Down on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @12:59PM (#49981161)
Sure seems to be hosed.
Polymarket is only popular since they went legal and started taking US dollars. If they were illegal and crypto-only, it would crush them.
Nope, we're talking about online gambling and prediction markets. It should be illegal in the US.
In no way is it better now that we have online gambling. The entire industry should be illegal and barred from participation in the traditional banking system.
Pretty unfounded wrt Ukraine.
Re:When did Google get so f-ing weird? on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @09:01AM (#49892498)
Yes but they didn't make $112B in profit last quarter by Goodhart-ing their way through it. Google of course cares about the stock price, but search makes them money, and chat therapy does not.
Re:When did Google get so f-ing weird? on Sunday September 27, 2026 @07:10PM (#49871743)
I don't get how it makes google more money to play therapist in the search engine. It surely costs a boatload more to generate that kind of response, so where's the payoff?
Yeah if they know they can't succeed, then imo they have a fiduciary duty to not try. Which only leaves resigning.
It says he has 84% of the voting shares. Is there any possible way that the board could have been successful? Regardless of Mullenberg, (and I know he's controversial) a coup that is pre-ordained to fail seems like value destroying negligence.
Re:I don't like passkeys on Saturday September 19, 2026 @05:08PM (#49770139)
I think the point with a passkey is that those very loose backup methods are required, since just knowing the password is not a thing. Everyone gets a new phone and is at risk of the previous one being unavailable. So passkeys mean that there's no way to deal with that reality, and also be truly secure.
It's frankly insane that y'all have to do that, and yes Americans cross the border, perhaps haplessly.
Yeah the plain language is unambiguous. That there is an historical border search exception simply doesn't matter to me. We fought a war for this, and it's bullshit.
Re:I don't like passkeys on Friday September 18, 2026 @12:22PM (#49756641)
I don't get it. I recover an account at ticketmaster by receiving an email. I recover an account at google by???
Re:I don't like passkeys on Friday September 18, 2026 @12:19PM (#49756600)
How can it be saved and synced without credentials? I'm in that overwhelming majority, but I don't grok how I can recover the account when my phone is lost/stolen/damaged. The answer appears to be, use another device that was already logged in?
Re:I don't like passkeys on Friday September 18, 2026 @09:25AM (#49754073)
Imagine you lose your computer and phone. How do you recover your digital accounts? This happens every day to someone. The most common scenario being a house fire or robbery.
Re:I don't like passkeys on Friday September 18, 2026 @09:21AM (#49754028)
But how do I type it into my new phone?
Re:I don't like passkeys on Friday September 18, 2026 @09:17AM (#49754000)
How did fake-something get injected as a subdomain?
Re:Ask HN: How to recover Google auth after phone stolen? on Thursday September 17, 2026 @03:17PM (#49745283)
Too late for you now, but I set my backup email to my work email. Granted, I have to change it when I change jobs.
