I might be wrong but wasn't streamingmedia.com doing some bullshit Theora vs H264 comparison before?
Re:Show HN: Pocket - my first app ever on Monday January 17, 2011 @12:18PM (#2112732)
random first second thoughts:

as i scrolled down the page, I lost the text to image connection. where does the text belong to, the image above or below.

does not show the mobile interface. or is it just a website that you call "app"?

Re:Poll: How much do you trust Google? on Saturday January 08, 2011 @04:44AM (#2082744)
I have the same problem. I do "trust" Google with some of my activities (such as watching online videos on -> Youtube and sometimes using the web search -> Google) but I do not trust them in the meaning that I think they do no evil with my data.

I trust they are not abusing the data they record about me, but I do not trust in the good of harvesting and data mining said data.

There is nothing in the gaming future that excites me more than good old voxels. That game/engine looks amazing.
Art is created because people feel the need. Money should not be the incentive.

An example could be a fan-made translation of old works. Mashups. Redubbing of movies. Free recordings of music.

Wrong.

People adapted and built upon other people's music, art and technology.

If you are just looking to make a self-contained file that has the page as image, I would suggest you simply embed the image as base64.

I made a bitmap -> <table> once, that was pure hell like this. ;-)

When I was young, I wanted to become an astronaut.
Re:Zed Shaw: Why I Don't Use Tor on Tuesday December 28, 2010 @09:42AM (#2045564)
Sounds like I must disregard anything he says or does because I do not like him having been trained to murder.
Re:Zed Shaw: Why I Don't Use Tor on Tuesday December 28, 2010 @09:40AM (#2045554)
Using Tor does not mean that you are an exit node. You have to actually set that up and it is warning you about it. Using Tor as a client only is safe and secure.

If people do bad things through your exit node, you are in danger regardless where you live. The law enforcement must be aware of what your server was doing. Its understanding varies from place to place.

Title of that novel please, sounds interesting!

Re:My mom's experience with an iPad on Saturday December 25, 2010 @02:59PM (#2039334)
The author might live in a country where that is not the case. In Germany for example the term "app" was not used before Apple came.
Re:VLC For Android May Arrive In Early 2011 on Saturday December 25, 2010 @02:58PM (#2039332)
original source is http://gigaom.com/video/vlc-for-android-coming-soon/

linked page is just a conclusion.

What reasons would that be?
Re:Unencrypted public wifi should die on Sunday December 19, 2010 @08:50AM (#2021663)
I hope you do not really think that allowing others to use your internet connection will protect you from any problems arising from bad things being done with your internet connection. But please do run a Tor exit node.
Re:Your apps are watching you on Saturday December 18, 2010 @10:56AM (#2019650)
That is (one reason) why I rooted and installed a firewall on my Android phone.

Re:Author Slams eBook Piracy, Son Outs Her As a Music Pirate on Monday December 13, 2010 @12:48PM (#2001295)
Then don't. You don't have to. Listen to the radio. Record the radio (in many countries that is legal). Listen to Youtube or streams. Listen to free music!
Re:I solved the embedded Chrome OS ad equation and won a Cr-48 on Saturday December 11, 2010 @06:45AM (#1994656)
Just finally let us Jamendo users tag the music. Maybe weigh it less than the artists' own tags.
Re:I solved the embedded Chrome OS ad equation and won a Cr-48 on Friday December 10, 2010 @03:34PM (#1993066)
Well, now please make Jamendo a joy to use...
Re:1 pixel by 5 pixel font on Wednesday November 24, 2010 @11:59AM (#1937846)
All I see is are tiny pixel lines. Maybe some advanced rendering technology on my monitor ruins it?
Re:TextCAPTCHA: 180 million simple logic questions on Wednesday November 10, 2010 @10:54AM (#1890689)
"Ten, 33, thirty five, 10 and thirty six: the 5th number is?"

10? Thirty? Thirty Six?

Re:World's largest association of pilots boycotts body scanners on Tuesday November 09, 2010 @11:10AM (#1886863)
But you are even further away. So actions like this might be more than what you would accomplish otherwise. If enough "executors" are annoyed and unhappy, maybe they will raise the issue to the next level. And so on.
Re:Opera holds the web's most valuable secret on Monday November 08, 2010 @12:25PM (#1883155)
I was using Opera Mini on my mobile under the assumption that they value my privacy and do not store any data. If they would start doing this, it would outrage me enough that I might potentially even go back to Firefox on my desktop.
Re:Firesheep: Easy HTTP session hijacking from within Firefox on Monday October 25, 2010 @03:17AM (#1828905)
I highly dislike the title of it. It is not HTTPS everywhere, it is "HTTPS on sites we know it is possible on".
Re:Is the Linux Desktop Dream Dead? on Sunday October 24, 2010 @07:40AM (#1825888)
Linux is the best desktop OS I ever used. Sure, it required me to learn a bit about its innards and consider what I need and why, but once configured it is a flawless and relaxing experience for me.
