Cones of Dunshire? :)
There's a difference between changing one's opinion based on evidence and thought... And having, say, mutually exclusive policy positions on the minimum wage during the campaign. (Eliminate it federally, raise it at the federal level, don't raise it at the federal level, let the states decide, let the states decide but it must go up.)

Or mutually exclusive positions on a ton of policy issues: http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/full-list-dona...

There isn't, to me, evidence of evolution or evaluation. Or a rapidity of such that calls to mind comic-book mutation. We can't get the full view into his mind, obviously, but it seems like we don't have access to a base set of principles from which Donny makes his decisions.

Yeah, that's the implication. Age-related hearing loss is called presbycusis; it's quite common. Some of it can be attributed to being exposed to loud noises throughout our lives.

Eh, I'm the same as you. We belong in the field. :D

Besides, what are your coworkers doing, playing computer games on Wine? The paltry selection of osx Steam games? Do they have (shudder) _consoles_?

There's definitely people in the field who don't put in unpaid overtime all the time, who don't go home and write Markov Chains in Haskell to make William Burroughs-esque poetry. There's a lot to be said for having some balance, where your entire life isn't devoted to one topic or to your career.

Re:Do startups have a drinking problem? on Wednesday May 18, 2016 @01:54PM (#11724053)
There is a big difference between work being a safe space where no one drinks, and one where your boss berates you harshly for not drinking. The article depicts the latter situation. I drink; I don't care if people don't drink. I would never, ever respond to someone asking for water the way this writer's boss did. The boss acts as though he has been personally insulted. That's garbage.

The author complains about that behavior, labeling it a sign of how 'spoiled' engineers are. The author also engages in this behavior. Pointing this out, and labelling it hypocrisy, does not constitute an ad hominem attack. Because what the author has done is the definition of hypocrisy.
