+1 for SensibleSideButtons and ScrollReverser. I find using a mouse painful without them, and I greatly appreciate that they're both free.
To check it's not broken before they roll it out Europe-wide.

Wipeout is clearly not "abandonware".

Re:NES 64 – Commodore 64 Kernal and Basic ROMs Ported to the NES on Wednesday February 16, 2022 @02:16AM (#30357181)
I recently bought a C64 and was recommended this modern replacement, it works with the vast majority of games https://www.thefuturewas8bit.com/shop/commodore/eflr.html

Re:Java 17 depends on DNS lookups for hashing a web URL on Tuesday December 14, 2021 @02:31AM (#29549188)
It's been 19 years since this problem has been fixed and yet the bad code is still there.
This is looking at the past with today's eyes. There was no concept of "maintaining" games as you might expect today. Games were finished, put out on disk or CD, and that was usually that. Patches were sometimes introduced to fix bugs or improve compatibility with certain hardware, but that was usually the limit of support. Quake received far more support post-release than any other game at the time. There were many patches, game improvements and fixes. ID released GLQuake to support the new trend of 3D acceleration (the base game was software rendered only). They released QuakeWorld to support the growing player base who wanted to play multiplayer across the internet. And they released several expansion packs to provide a large amount of additional single player content. This is far, far from "abandoning" a player base. I don't know what more they could have done other than make all of their future games in the Quake 1 engine, which would have been commercial suicide given their reputation for being at the front line of PC technology.

Indeed, if anything is slow, it's GIMP.

I believe ScummVM supports many of Scott's games.

I read the page on an Android phone in Chrome and it worked perfectly.
I also use one. The software is available on Android too and as long as your phone has NFC it will work.

I was surprised that this method of reading blood sugar wasn't mentioned in the article. It removes the stressful and painful need for constant finger prick tests.

This doesn't work well on mobile. Once a pattern is chosen, panning and zooming is broken.
Re:I don't know how to browse the internet anymore on Friday November 05, 2021 @03:34AM (#29116363)
It's less about the browser and more about the search engine results.

When you say "maximize", what about the expensive bike and subscription makes you think you will lose more weight or get fitter than a cheaper bike and basic subscription?

It feels to me like you may have fallen victim to their advertising campaigns.

You're absolutely right. I'm surprised this isn't more well known.

Here's an article from 10 years ago talking about tracking people in airports. https://www.futuretravelexperience.com/2011/04/bluetooth-pro...

Yes, absolutely right, and for games it was the only option with no fast floating point and very limited memory.

Re:GitHub stale bot considered harmful on Tuesday October 26, 2021 @07:55AM (#28999228)
What an odd point of view. It doesn't sound like you respect your users at all.
I've got 20 years of experience and have never bothered with side projects, portfolios or the like. You have to have the confidence to pitch your real experience and let it shine on your CV and at interview, both from a technical and people point of view. That's what hiring managers are looking for from someone who has been in the business for a while.

If you get rejected because you don't have a recent GitHub project, that's their loss, and they don't know what they're missing.

Re:Raspberry Pi 3 Fastboot – Less Than 2 Seconds on Saturday October 23, 2021 @03:48PM (#28971625)
I have to say I agree. Presenting a login screen early is a great idea, as most people take a short while to log in, and in that time system can finish initialising - as long as there is enough free CPU and interrupts to service the keyboard and mouse during that time.
The cast only devices haven't been discontinued. I bought one this week. Only the Ultra has been discontinued.

Re:Nokia is releasing a new version of its 6310 'brick phone' on Thursday October 14, 2021 @07:01PM (#28871363)
Totally agree, this is just a new underpowered feature phone that looks nothing like it's "inspiration".

Move fast and break . . . <NO CARRIER>
Yes, I only mentioned it today to two coworkers who hadn't seen it on their mailboxes. I've been getting a few a week, some go to spam and some don't.
Re:Why Firefox has been in decline for 12 years on Saturday September 11, 2021 @12:07PM (#28493079)
It replaces the millions of ads and trackers on the web with exactly one ad, which is as you say on the new tab screen, that you can turn off in the settings.

There is also Brave Rewards, something that pays you for viewing ads but is disabled by default and can be totally hidden through another setting.

This straightforward set-up isn't something I feel deserves the number of negative comments I see on here. The benefits far outweigh the minor inconvenience of changing two settings.

It would be good to add some explanation to your site describing what it is and how to use it. I clicked the link and had no idea what to do next.
720 is the default for Google Meet and gives a decent quality picture imo. There's definitely value in seeing others at that resolution - the restricting factor is people's unreliable or narrow bandwidth internet connection.
