Crypto was more fun back in the day imho. I remember Bitcoin pre-fork. I bought some in 2016 and was using it to buy stuff online from overstock. It was kinda fun and different, you got discounts and at the time Bitcoin was going up so it was cool to spend money and then see balance increase. I also used Bitcoin ATM back then when I was in the pitch. These days I don't really care much for it.
That's why I exited crypto long time ago, I could've been more well off if I kept it but these shenanigans is why I sold everything.
That's wild, I remember in early 2000s it was super easy to upload a PHP file with a shell. Back when hostings were shared, one shell could get you access to the whole host.
This is what it feels like. I went from high performer to barely getting in touch with people in the last year and those are warm leads not cold-calling. Time for a new gig...
Christ... on the opposite end.. I'm in sales. I wish that people would just make their intentions clear. They submit a lead and I can't even get a STOP response anymore.
If I had the money... I'd get a cabin, truck, necessitates, starlink and life would be good.
I'm not sure how you figured that my political views are odd or whatever you implied with that comment. A bit dismissive and arrogant assumption, don't you think?
Its not that, I just find it interesting that the model decided to reduce human experience and existence to nihilism. I'd like to see more nuanced answer.
Look at it this way, LLM has a creator, is it too wild to assume that perhaps human existence is more complex as well vs nihilistic universal chance?
I do want AI to code well, but I also use it for idea exploration, writing, research, etc.
I've done it with Local 60. I didn't last long. The work is legit heavy and hours are crazy. I lasted 4 months before I figured it is not for me. 6 am safety meetings and talk about injuries or someone getting decapitated was not a good motivator either.
I exited crypto in 2017 after the fork because there was too much community fighting, I didn't think it would take off.
I did speculate a little in 2020-22. I have LeBron NFT 1 out 1K from Superbowl promo during crypto com boom and crush... worthless now but I didnt spend a penny on it.
Is it possible to learn something like this later in life? My granddad was a carpenter and had a shop but by the time I was a kid he took up drinking pretty heavily and I barely saw him working. I suck when it comes to mechanical work or something similar but I think I'd enjoy working with wood.
I thought it was established that those were search engine crawlers...
They're not planning an attack on Eastern Europe. They are desperate to wrap up their Ukraine fiasco.
Through out my life, my experience with US doctors and dentists haven't been good.
Im not in tech but still in corporate. Our store went through 6 GMs in 5 years. The problem is actually the corporate, not the new guy every 8 months who is being brought on to save the day. I think they're going to replace him again next year without addressing any of the issues on the ground.
Random comment but the name is funny to me, reminds me of Silicon Valley.
What are we going to name the company, how about Dwarfism 2.0? What happened to 1.0 Jared?
Google is horrible now and search doesnt show anything relevant anymore. I miss old Google, with 30 pages of links. Now if you search for a specific quote and it wont find it. Everything is walled now and content you get is the one they want to push.
Yes, I'm thinking the same, good write up.
I have a feeling that once everything goes EV and autopilot, they will start phasing out regular cars or will make it more difficult to obtain the license.
There's no genocide, I find it funny that techies on HN still can't get a proper definition right. Gaza is genocide, Russians don't touch civilians. If it was a genocide we wouldn't have millions of Ukrainian refugees going to Russia after the conflict.
The Bull's Hour by Ivan Yefremov comes to mind and its closer to reality.
V. Gluskov designed OGAS to help with planned economy but for whatever reason it got denied funding. Decades later we're trying to make AI do just that on global scale.
From WIKI:
In 2016, a book dedicated to OGAS was published in the US, entitled How Not to Network a Nation: The Uneasy History of the Soviet Internet, by Benjamin Peters, professor at University of Tulsa. Harvard University professor Jonathan Zittrain commented that the book "fills an important gap in the Internet's history, highlighting the ways in which generativity and openness have been essential to networked innovation".[15] A reviewer of the book at MIT wrote:[16] "Soviet attempts to build a national computer network were undone by socialists who seemed to behave like capitalists".
I'd rather not engage in politics in HN, I'm surprised the article made it here to begin with like it's Reddit. Also, if people already made up their mind then there's no reason for me to waste my time trying to explain anything, it will take a stand alone post with multiple pages if were really to go that route. I will say this, my position is similar to what Mearsheimer has been talking about when it comes to this conflict. Any of his lectures will brief you in on the nuance.
You probably shouldn't talk about things you don't know about.
All invasions are planned. That does not negate "unprovoked" when this has been simmering to the boiling point since 2013 and even earlier. The more this war continues the bigger memory hole will be on what actually happened.
Unprovoked.. Putin woke up one day and decided to roll in the tanks. Got it.
I grew up in post-USSR state and living in those conditions was part of my childhood. I understand the limitations. I'm just tired of city life and all property has been sold by my parents. I would be okay living 50 miles away from a major city like a lot of folks do here in Texas. My initial comment was perhaps a little ambitious, but I'm not a hermit. The issue is, living out in the country is probably more expensive than my current situation.
