Except most technology made today is not designed for longevity. Tech that requires an internet connection to a working server to function even though that has nothing to do with it's core purpose (see https://mobile.twitter.com/internetofshit)

Stress eating? I bet fewer people are dieting right now than last year.

Buy nothing group in your area!
"Why doesn't the seller pay for one up front and share the results with interested buyers?"

In the Bay Area they do. No one makes offers with an inspection contingency because it's so competitive but often the seller will already have done an inspection that they share with potential buyers

Really? At current interest rates that's like $5k a year.
According to the footnote they don't view it as good or bad it's just a thought experiment.
An old Android tablet or phone with the app Dormi does great, too. The best part is that it doesn't make any noise until there's sustained noise detected in the baby room. It also alerts if it loses connectivity and can be snoozed at 10 minute intervals.

A bit of UI design feedback - the single capital letters in the how it works section are confusing. It seemed to imply that "FHC" was a meaningful acronym. Might want to reconsider that choice.

Quick note, there's a typo in the first paragraph. "Writting good notes takes some experience"

Or you did.

Re:Airbnb Plans to File Confidentially for IPO in August on Saturday August 15, 2020 @08:11PM (#24173598)
Thanks for your response! I'm super excited to hear that some of those features are in development.

Regarding the "separate property" problem, I agree it is a bit tough to tackle however there's one way to distinguish it: does the property have a separate, legal address? A basement suite or a guest house does not, a condo or apartment in a 4-plex does. Airbnb could require hosts to provide those details in order to be counted under the "have the whole place to yourself" category.

Another way I was thinking you could do it is to add a higher level of grouping to the property type menu (the one that has "townhouse", "cabin" etc.) And clarify which of those types should be considered standalone and which are more guesthousey. Those categories currently feel super arbitrary, so they could use more structure regardless.

Probably not too many blue collar users interested in building a SaaS product, though.
Re:Show HN: Tweek – Fast to-do weekly calendar app on Friday August 14, 2020 @01:42PM (#24160869)
I like it.

Some ideas for you:

- a toggle to hide completed tasks

- going into a menu to delete is too cumbersome. what if on drag a trash target appeared (margins of the screen? bottom right) and then dragging to there deleted it? with a recycle bin view to get the deleted tasks back if desired.

Not the person you replied to, but here's my list of gripes/wishlist for airbnb

- I want to see prices listed as total price, not price before fees which add 30%-50% on top of the listed price

- I want to select properties where there is no one else on the property grounds. Airbnb allows people to claim "Separate property" for somebody's basement suite where you're sure to encounter the host/other residents

- I want the pool/hot tub checkboxes to be limited to private pool or hot tub, and to not include results where the property has some membership to a shared pool in a HOA or whatever

- I want the ability to search for keywords, such as "backyard" or "creek"

- I want to be able to exclude certain hosts from results. In some cities the same host runs multiple properties and they all have bad reviews. I want to hide their properties.

- I want to be able to easily flag or report listings that are abusing the search terms - claiming a living room as a bedroom, for example

- I want to be able to search for properties by driving distance from a location

Re:Helping people spot the spoofs: a URL experiment on Wednesday August 12, 2020 @07:34PM (#24138341)
Wouldn't this get annoying when you go to select part of the URL? Hovering changes the text shown so you end up selecting different text than you wanted.
I bought two pairs of sunglasses from Amazon recently. Different brands, different pictures, different price. Ended up with two pairs of the exact same glasses...

Probably the doctor has no readily accessible way to hang a patient upside down and wouldn't want the legal liability of doing so anyway.

Re:The Concept Creep of ‘Emotional Labor' (2018) on Sunday October 20, 2019 @05:52PM (#21307427)
Huh. I would have termed "emotional labor" as doing the work to maintain harmony of relationships within and outside of the home. Like being the person responsible for setting up family events, sending cards, remembering birthdays etc. Also in parenting being the more present parent. While the need to be household manager is more "mental load" like are we out of laundry soap or when is the kid's next doctor appointment. But apparently those uses aren't really accurate.
