Re:Firebase SDK is CRASHING ALLLL iOS Apps, since today morning on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @07:12AM (#49891266)
there's a LOT of push from vibecoders to stop with PR reviews.

i've also heard "the prompt is the only thing that should be reviewed"

Re:One Month Without AI on Saturday September 26, 2026 @12:54PM (#49858338)
i'm using LLMs/GenAI to do one thing: write unit tests.

since i really don't follow the idea of "writing unit tests first", i implement the feature, test as a user, and then use LLMLs to write the basic unit test. then, i will write more tests to make sure i'm covering everything.

feels like an ok-ish compromise because LLMs can do some ok job with defensive code, while i maintain the main implementation and more advanced test scenarios.

i mean, you can also read liftoff and re-entry by eric berger and you will see the same kind of thing being mentioned.

honestly, one day i will understand why these guys go so hard on planning vacations.

one of the best parts of vacations is actually planning it! trying to find restaurants, organizing your days, trying to fit activities -- that makes you look forward to your time off.

really, i want to automate the boring parts of my life (did i really pay rent this month?) not the things that make me happy.

Re:Dario, Please on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @05:19AM (#49709834)
it's really weird to hear frontier labs say "our internal models are basically AGI" while also saying "airgapping is too hard uwu".

if your internal models are so damn good, they should be able to "one shot" airgapping... right?

Re:Why Write Code in 2026 on Sunday July 12, 2026 @02:35PM (#48883373)
i write code because i love it. it's something that makes me genuinely happy, so why would i give that up?
Re:How do you use Vim in the era of AI? on Friday July 10, 2026 @09:58AM (#48860020)
like normal?

but i don't use ai to write code for me -- i use it as a companion thing where i ask questions and then, instead of asking for code, i implement everything myself.

it keeps me sharp and helps me understand the lastest ai stuff.

Re:Have You Restarted Your Computer This Week? on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @10:02AM (#48746968)
yup, that's exactly what i do.

if anything is making me less productive or just plain stopping my job, i raise an IT ticket, tell my manager and go for a walk.

Re:The Xteink X4 E-Ink Reader on Thursday June 25, 2026 @08:56AM (#48672662)
it's pocketable!

that's the main for me: i also have a kobo and bringing it around with me is just too damn annoying.

being able to pocket this thing and read anywhere one handed is so nice.

depends on the country, i would guess.

but firing because "ai makes us more productive" is basically impossible in most eu countries.

>You call someone an author when they use a ghostwriter.

i don't know about you, but i absolutely don't. either you write the book yourself or you are not the author.

as kendrick lamar wrote:

I can dig rappin', but a rapper with a ghostwriter?

What the fuck happened? (Oh no)

legit question: did you invite anyone that isn't doing agentic whatever during your beta?

Re:Make Tmux Pretty and Usable on Monday April 13, 2026 @12:25PM (#47754420)
i tried both and i honestly... i didn't see anything different.

i want tmux for three things:

1. easy splits

2. easy scrollback

3. being able to restart a session if my terminal dies

given all that, tmux works exactly as expected.

what are all these "significantly better ui and overall ux"?

great work! i'm started trying it and it seems like it solves a bunch of issues i have with the native docker.

the only problem that i have, right now, is colors: i usually have everything in my computer as black[0], so the white highlight on the bar is so jarring! being able to replace that with something else is going to be great.

Re:I've Seen a Thousand OpenClaw Deploys. Here's the Truth on Saturday April 11, 2026 @05:22AM (#47728987)
yeah but unfortunately an AI flow can bring promotions, while scripts won't
the main things are:

1. pin dependencies with sha signatures 2. mirror your dependencies 3. only update when truly necessary 4. at first, run everything in a sandbox.

i do the same thing, but not for typewriter, but because back in my leopard/snow leopard days, i setup -- to transform into —.

the thing is, i never setup it again but i kept typing --.

Re:Layoffs at Block on Friday February 27, 2026 @06:03AM (#47179107)
i've been using twitter/x since 2007 and it has not gotten way worse -- specially if you try comparing to truly bad era of the #failwhale.
Re:New accounts on HN 10x more likely to use EM-dashes on Wednesday February 25, 2026 @01:23PM (#47155510)
i've always used double dashes -- because i once i setup a osx shortcut to change those into em-dashes, but i never bother to setup this again in other computers.

so now, i just use double dashes for everything.

(shit, i wonder when llms will start doing this instead of normal em)

Re:Devuan – Debian Without Systemd on Wednesday January 28, 2026 @06:46AM (#46794127)
same. i still remember how painful it was to setup services without systemd.

having to manually deal with daemons was so painful, to the point of being exoteric.

Re:Heathrow scraps 100ml liquid container limit on Tuesday January 27, 2026 @07:25AM (#46779081)
i've been to a bunch of concerts here in the netherlands and they do the most basic checks.

last time, they checked my wife's purse without a torch (so she could've hidden anything inside) and didn't check anything on me so i got in with two 1g edibles.

investors?

yup, same. slack thread with a lot of comments with people praising it.

others were quite skeptical, specially the ones that actually perused the code.

Re:STFU on Friday January 16, 2026 @05:09PM (#46652874)
sure. he wasn't beaten to death.

but:

1. do you really wanna get into a fight because of this? because dude, i have a family to take care, so i would rather just not say anything.

2. you can easily die from a single punch

Re:STFU on Friday January 16, 2026 @05:07PM (#46652856)
i've seen people get beat up because they asked an anti-social c-words to turn the volume down.

some people just cannot be reasoned and the amount of people like this is growing HARD.

>Do you know of anyone declining to work on a project For ethical in their view ( non military non killing) ?

o/

i was offered a high paying job, with relocation to a 1st world country (at the time, i was living in a 3rd world country with high murder rates), to a industry that i consider quite shady (and it's not military and not around killing -- i have no issues with both of those). i politely refused.

most of my friends, at the time, told me that they would've have accepted without even thinking, but for me, it's just not worth it.

Re:Cloudflare Email Service: private beta on Friday September 26, 2025 @04:47AM (#45384280)
i did this exact thing literally 15 years ago with a simple django app -- there's no way they are using this kind of example in 2025 year of our lord.
Re:Seattle Ultrasonics: Ultrasonic Chef's Knife on Sunday September 21, 2025 @11:03AM (#45323371)
most people don't even know how to properly hone a knife since there are specific movements.

i would recommend anyone sending their knives to a professional for sharpening -- you will feel much more confident cutting, and everything will be safer.
