They answer that in literally the first paragraph in the article.

TL:DR; They couldn't buy enough minis or studios.

Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:37PM (#50293846)
I obviously going to be a balance but gig work has an incredibly low barrier to entry in that all you need is a car, insurance and a phone. The company sets the bar as to how many people are allowed into a "zone" to work via waitlists. They control the labor pool and thus control the payouts. The more people signed up among limited orders, the more people willing to lower their pay standards just to take any order and get paid.
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:26PM (#50292767)
From a driver persepctive:

DD plays big games with pay, sometimes hides tips, drives down base pay, and stacks orders with good pay and bad pay offers to try and pay drivers as little money as possible.

In a bad economy, there's less people ordering on DD (although higher income earners who aren't as effective by economic effects don't change habits), however, it drives MORE desperate drivers to the platform that accept the low pay orders since they no longer have an income. This drives down all wages for drivers, and costs, which in turn pads DD's margins.

We actually see this seasonally in the summer when more students and teachers join the platform over the break. There's a glut of drivers, you can't cherry pick higher paying orders and most stuff that's left to fight for is low paying, no tip orders. When school starts back up things return to normal.

This is why DD is trying to sign up as many drivers as possible. If you remove the scarcity of drivers, then every low paying gig will eventually get picked up, driving average pay down and you can ratchet down your base pay hoping customer tips make up the slack.

Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @01:19PM (#50277132)
Doesn't look like it folds back or does tent mode. Those are some good use cases for touchscreen PCs, being able to walk around in tablet mode in something like a warehouse, for example.

Dynamic island looks nice.

Re:Apple introduces the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @11:53AM (#50261154)
Huh? It still has all the same ports.
Re:Apple introduces the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @11:52AM (#50261147)
The base model has always been limited to 32gb. Select a pro or max chip for more memory options.
Re:Apple introduces the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @11:50AM (#50261118)
In some parts of EU and the UK there's no bundled power adapter, due to regulations. Historically, Apple has offset the cost of the laptop to accommodate this. Not sure if they're doing the same here.
Re:Apple introduces the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @11:47AM (#50261076)
The Pro has a bigger brighter ProMotion display. It has active cooling, larger speakers, more ports, longer battery life, better graphics performance, better keyboard, and a larger default storage option (starts at 1tb).

If the Base M6 is good enough processor for you but want a more "premium" product, then the base Pro makes sense.

Leads for what? Restoring Meta accounts?

Banks have had a long standing policy that if you willing hand over your credentials, you are responsible for any losses. This applies to AI agents as well as scammers.

Yeah, what news is this? Why are we having a discussion about a gripe from another discussion forum?

They've published several whitepapers and technical documentation on how the secure enclave works and it's been poked at by security researchers for years.

It's a top down view of the TV
Re:New Apple TV 4K on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:18PM (#50074170)
Any Airpods connect directly to the AppleTV. You don't need the remote, phone or an app at all.

If you're using wired headphones then a $20 Bluetooth dongle will do the same.

Re:A Cop's Case for Flock on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @01:33PM (#49996063)
You give cops an inch, they take a mile. It's been shown time and time again, with Flock and ALPR specifically, that if the technology is easy enough to abuse it will be.

Until sufficient measures are in place to prevent abuse (and I have doubts it's even possible) then the cameras gotta go and they can do their jobs the same way the did decades before.

Re:Mosquitoes Are a Choice on Monday October 05, 2026 @11:48AM (#49966447)
Lots of animals eat mosquitos, but they really aren't the primary food source of any species, especially this particular type of mosquito. It would have a very minimal effect on food supply.
> Betting apps are just this taken to the extreme, I feel for people with this addiction but it’s not going away anytime soon.

Why? This wasn't a thing that existed 10-15 years ago, this isn't some long-standing institution. We could ban online betting apps today if we wanted to.

Re:I Switched to Brave Browser on Monday September 28, 2026 @12:25PM (#49880508)
Someone who derides someone else who donates to causes they find disgusting is also a political view. You're just talking about two people with political views.
You're talking about something that is probably at least 10x the cost to build and maintain. You're making something simple, like swapping a single solar panel, from a ground-level one-man job into now a multi-person job with specialized equipment and water hazards.

He created an unsafe situation by stopping at a gore point instead of driving a couple hundred feet down the offramp onto a surface street.
Yeah, the quirk being that the known population is just this one in the sanctuary. They haven't identified where specifically he came from or where there might be others, so for now he's a one-of-one.

Every time they say "trust us" they publish a whitepaper with technical details explaining why and how they can be trusted. They're generally very good about these things.
We're supposed to hold police officers to a much higher standard. Whether I would or not is irrelevant.
