lol stay pleb, volatility will continue to plummet with things like http://www.coinsetter.com , and with decreased volatility, things like insuring storage and then making profit on investment will continue to rise. You are a fucking moron

Re:Be a Man and Stand Up for Gender Equality on Monday December 09, 2013 @12:40PM (#6875439)
You are still suggesting that firms are somehow obligated to go out of their way to hire females due to some misguided sense of morality. Putting in extra effort to find a female developers would cost money that smaller firms may not have.

>Then it's pretty clear you've done a bad job of advertising your job openings. Did you, perhaps, just ask for referrals among your own personal network?

That is pure conjecture, there are differences in the way men and women think, with men more naturally drawn to STEM fields, and to attempt to legislate equality of outcome rather than equality of opportunity would be reverse sexism. Notice there is no mention of paid paternity leave, or other ways that women are blatantly given an advantage over men.

Re:High Frequency Dating on Friday November 22, 2013 @01:06PM (#6782495)
Some guy with an MFA is not qualified to talk about HFT and liquidity. I was referring more to an academic source, flash crashes are more the exception and not the rule; they stabilize quickly and have little to no lasting negative effect on industry.

Hft decreases volatility
Re:Show HN: Interestin on Tuesday November 19, 2013 @02:24PM (#6763699)
There seems to be very little substance here besides a thin wrapper around some database queries to categorically show posts. The search is complete garbage also, I searched for "never give" (partial title of one of the posts). The post was 5th or 6th in the results, and the top results had neither search term anywhere in the article or title. This is "Uninterestin" in every sense of the word.

Guess I'll be adding a frequency emitter in this range near my air gapped machine.
Re:Builders of Obama's health website saw red flags on Wednesday October 23, 2013 @10:34AM (#6598959)
not true, the debt crisis is a myth, and the more efficient functioning of government services across the board could end up paying for itself

Obvious sarcasm but this is basically what they are doing with macroeconomics, see http://delong.typepad.com/sdj/2013/10/whiskey-tango-foxtrot-...
Re:Lavabit SSL Cert Revoked on Tuesday October 08, 2013 @06:56PM (#6518391)
Opinions vs. Facts The community should be encouraged to favour facts over opinions.

Er, this is one of the largest problems facing Democracy since it was invented millenia ago. Look at the current American government shutdown, and the way Republicans have managed to frame the debate using empty rhetoric, when in reality both the debt ceiling and government spending are currently not an issue http://delong.typepad.com/sdj/2013/10/whiskey-tango-foxtrot-...

Which is exactly what the post I quoted was doing, I'm not sure what you are trying to say

There is a very vocal group of feminists who claim this very thing

Re:Homeless, Unemployed, and Surviving on Bitcoins on Friday September 20, 2013 @03:06PM (#6419855)
The fact that there aren't currently enough jobs could very well be an unquantifiable negative externality of having a minimum wage.
Re:Ask HN: What should I learn next? on Wednesday September 18, 2013 @12:01PM (#6406037)
I completely agree, most people I've ever encountered asking "What to learn next" don't really understand what they think they know. There are 100 different directions you can go from if you actually had a decent understanding of php/html/css; exploring the PHP source code, learning more about the network protocols that http/https requests operate on top of, web application security and security in general, browser implementation of css rendering/javascript engines/sandboxing, all of these things are natural extensions of web development, and are really just the tip of the iceberg.

That's more so a core programming concept than a js concept.
Re:Graying Linux developers look for new blood on Thursday August 29, 2013 @05:34PM (#6298772)
No, just work at Red Hat or Google, they pay plenty of people to actively contribute to kernel development.

The comments on reddit and the article itself almost make me support the NSA's surveillance programs; people can be convinced of anything given the right emotional rhetoric. Literally the left wing equivalent of the tea party, and more terrifying.

Re:Ask HN: Do I need to go to college? on Monday August 12, 2013 @02:57PM (#6200968)
I went for a few years and completely agree with this, you'll learn as slow as the rest of the class, with arbitrary restrictions all over the place; it's an increasingly less effective relic of the industrial age, don't waste your time.
