Got deep into interview with this company (3rd round) and they ghosted me. I’m starting to feel like I dodged a bullet

right but if some short-term relief helps you get back on your feet and out of the suicide groove, you are doing better for them long-term

your alimony and child support amounts should be tied to your income levels right? if so, you could see if your obligation can be reduced since you don't have any income. I think a lawyer would be good to have for this process but maybe not strictly required in the short term if you just need immediate relief from your support obligation.

It's well-known that pandas are just large bunnies, though.

This made my day. Absolutely magnificent! My hat's off to you sir.
Are people worried about the costs of cocaine prohibition these days? I expected this headline to be about meth or fentanyl
Re:The Good Ol' Days of QBasic Nibbles on Tuesday May 17, 2022 @12:57PM (#31413456)
I also cut my teeth as a preteen with qbasic, modifying Gorillas.bas :)

I had gotten ahold of a qbasic extender that somebody published along with a "learn games in qbasic" book. It was a TSR that would expose some extended functionality to the qbasic runtime environment, allowing a 320x200 8bit color mode that was really fun to play around in. Anybody else remember this TSR?

Re:When I made another Monkey Island on Tuesday May 03, 2022 @01:50PM (#31251254)
When he talks about pushing the art forward, I wonder if he is also talking about the art of game design. Is he going to show us a futuristic vision of the classic point & click gameplay, or is this part still stuck in the past?
Re:Show HN: AI Generated SEO Articles on Monday April 27, 2020 @05:36PM (#23000381)
maybe this is actually a good thing if it makes junky SEO articles even more ubiquitous than they already are. it will force search engines to adapt and filter out this kind of noise, increasing quality in the long term.
Re:Seinfeld Adventure on Friday April 24, 2020 @08:17PM (#22974385)
I want to like this but the part that seems missing is the writing. They have somebody who can make games and who can make pixel art, but do they have somebody who can write seinfeld jokes?

Re:Ask HN: What is the best-designed software you've used? on Friday September 14, 2018 @03:28PM (#17990145)
Ableton Live.

The way the UI design packs tons of control into a simple, flat interface. The way everything happens in realtime. The way everything can be routed and automated and chained.

Even though I'm a shitty musician, I love this program so much.

Re:Brazil sets new record for homicides on Friday August 10, 2018 @04:49PM (#17736620)
Decriminalizing possession doesn't do anything to help the violence associated with the drug trade though, does it? I thought that was one of the main reasons for the "legalize completely" argument.
Re:The cost of games on Friday January 19, 2018 @02:16PM (#16188873)
Isn't this the opposite of the solution, though? If devs only made games that lasted 15 years, they would probably sell way fewer games in aggregate.
Re:AI-Assisted Fake Porn Is Here on Monday December 11, 2017 @07:32PM (#15902113)
> How about something more realistic, like character assassination campaigns?

if fake porn does become ubiquitous as you argue, wouldn't the impact of such assassination be greatly diminished?

"Hughes only recently converted to flat-Eartherism, after struggling for months to raise funds for his follow-up flight over the Mojave."

I think that sums it up.

This makes me sad. Not because of the code quality, but because it makes me think of all the games I used to write back in middle school that are now lost to the swirling sands of time. The youngins don't know how good they have it with github!
Re:Deep Learning Techniques for Music Generation – A Survey on Monday September 11, 2017 @04:09PM (#15221837)
It depends on what you mean by "on par".

If you mean "endlessly churning out songs that sound pretty much like Beethoven, Chopin, or the Beatles", then probably not. Humans do that too.

If you mean "endlessly creating new, innovative, and enjoyable material, like Beethoven, Chopin, and the Beatles did", then I think it's a very interesting proposition and lots of people would be happy to have that. I am skeptical it can be done with ML though.

Re:My list of JavaScript interview questions on Thursday June 29, 2017 @07:07PM (#14667552)
I'd assume that the interviewer would describe the formula for Fibonacci if asked. This type of question is more of a Fizzbuzz (i.e. testing for very basic programming ability) than a formula quiz.
Re:Ableton Live Redesign on Thursday June 15, 2017 @05:34PM (#14564574)
Ableton, hire this guy!

I like how you treated track groups. That's definitely one of the biggest missing features for me.

I also really like the level-of-detail sliders, what a cool concept, would really add lots of flexibility to the UI.
