You sound like the person who said that my town actually had too much competition in grocery stores and they should consolidate to reduce prices for consumers.

Supporting large companies merging and reducing competition

You can prevent it on Safari for macOS by right clicking > open (instead of Open in Music)
Re:Today, we hacked what we'd set out to hack: the iPhone on Friday October 23, 2026 @12:53PM (#50211971)
The reason they're having trouble is because they're in the simulator.

Also, if reachability bothers you like it does me, you can disable it.

No? It’s free to read there’s no paywall. You do need a free account to read it.
Cooldowns don't apply when you're patching a CVE; like, dependabot vulnerability scanning in GitHub has a separate cooldown from auto-updates
That's what cooldowns are for
Re:Gemini 4 Argon on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:26PM (#50074334)
Maybe it’s just an incomplete rollout not fraud lol
I suppose I don't - but I question what they could have been doing.

Was the direction of the model not to enter data in forms? If it was, then this is incompatible with what we know about the general competency of these models. If it wasn't, then this type of thing ("we submitted fake data to a website") is a clear outcome of "interact with random websites."

I am a software engineer - the wording we use around Open AI, Anthropic, et al. removes all sense of responsibility when they run an unmonitored piece of software against the public internet.

The idea that running what appears to be an LLM assigned to random websites and told to interact with them possibly having negative side effects seems incredibly obvious.

This situation is negligence: the engineer who designed the system that interacts with random websites didn't account for the fact those interactions could be harmful? What kind of excuse is that.
Re:Anthropic bans 'abusive or cruel behavior' towards Claude on Friday October 09, 2026 @12:36PM (#50023046)
I do agree this change could be for that reason, but the consensus is generally that Anthropic believes it is alive/has feelings in some manner.

From the Verge comments:

> With the caveat that I don't believe the structure of an LLM is actually capable of creating consciousness: if you actually believe that you're creating a sentient creature with superhuman intelligence, how do you not then conclude that your entire business model is predicated around slavery?

Re:Shipping JPEG XL in Chrome on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @06:31PM (#49999663)
What are you throwing out to use JXL?
Re:Shipping JPEG XL in Chrome on Wednesday October 07, 2026 @11:47AM (#49994500)
JXL has clear advantages and saying you don't see them means you either didn't attempt to see them or willfully ignore them
Re:Web Search API on Monday October 05, 2026 @11:36AM (#49966247)
The LLM does the searching but is still limited
Re:Apple Pass Designer on Friday October 02, 2026 @06:09PM (#49939238)
iOS 27 includes this feature built in now
Re:The US state replacing power plants with home batteries on Wednesday September 30, 2026 @12:32AM (#49904374)
In New England for decades and power outages >12 hours were very rare for me and I don’t recall any >24 hours. Multiple states and downtown/rural.
Re:Transit rewards (Waymo pays you to take the train) on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @02:21PM (#49820325)
I drive over the Bay Bridge into SF regularly. It has a bus/HOV lane past the toll metering, which is where a large amount of the traffic is.

> Despite Pledges From Musk, Child Sexual Abuse Material Persists on X

I'm not sure how this has anything to do with Apple or Apple Intelligence (which is based Google technology, also unrelated to X / Musk)

Re:Transit rewards (Waymo pays you to take the train) on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @12:29PM (#49818581)
Bus / carpool lane going into the city at rush hour cuts 15-20 minutes from the drive. Just because it hits traffic doesn't mean it's a failure.
Re:I said no and Apple said yes on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @02:33PM (#49806030)
What does Elon Musk have to do with Apple Intelligence? Why is that in this article?
You can just turn on E2E encryption for iCloud Photos
Re:Ask HN: How to recover Google auth after phone stolen? on Thursday September 17, 2026 @02:28PM (#49744653)
The passkey I use for Google syncs to multiple devices, so that's how I handle it. That and a backup code stored in a separate location.
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @11:31PM (#49707382)
Makes sense - definitely an "unable" - I was just curious where the delay was coming, but that iMessage example really sounds like a system issue I agree.

Glad iOS 27 fixed it.

What does "unable" mean?

Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @02:19PM (#49701478)
They've never used Gemini, and they are not using Gemini here. Gemini and Siri AI are both based on Google technology though.
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @02:18PM (#49701464)
Adding a stop at McDonalds on Google Maps won't necessarily work unless Google provides the hooks to accomplish that.

But yes, it can give you information on a topic in a way the old Siri couldn't.

I loved scratch in seventh grade and now I’m a principal software engineer a few years out of college, but I think correlating the two would be problematic
Re:It takes 5 cloud services to hear my doorbell on Sunday August 30, 2026 @11:37PM (#49505308)
It's video surveillance, it makes it more likely they'll go elsewhere. That's literally the whole point of Ring.
