I can recall an 'artisinal' chocolate brand in Brooklyn doing this about fifteen years ago, taking cocoa from the Dominican Republic to Brooklyn via sailboat.

I don't think that the author is American. Their X profile [1] seems to indicate that they are British.

I work at a large company, and we use Mattermost, which is open source.
The author's name seemed vaguely familiar. He was involved in the 2011 email leaks from Stratfor and spent time in prison for it. Although the article notes that he "declared political asylum in the United Kingdom in 2021 and currently lives in London", it looks as though his request for asylum was denied earlier this year.

According to their comments, they are Canadian. If you'd still like to wager, I'll happily collect the money.

Addons are one part of it. At my current job at a financial services company, there are plugins to access the firm's internal analytics library, the risk system, as well as to integrate with the front end trading systems and external vendors such as Bloomberg.
Caldera Linux included Looking Glass[1] which was vaguely Windows-like and commercial. Not sure if that's what you were thinking of.

I knew this only because Nietzsche wrote a poem about it.

I'm not sure about Godaddy, but on Gandi you can definitely pay to extend someone else's domain name.

In New York, the Staten Island Ferry is free, but you still pass through turnstiles to enter. I assume that that is how they get usage data even though no one needs to buy tickets.

You can find a list of cases on their web site. I don't think they are a conservative organization, either.

That address shows up in some data leaks according to haveibeenpwned.com, at least one of which seems to be related to advertising.

Maybe someone was scraping that data for expired domain names?

I'm embarrassed that people put so much stock in a gloss of Steinbeck. The original text that is paraphrased to produce this ``quotation'' says something completely different than what people ascribe to it.

Re:The Zen of Drinking Alone on Saturday January 15, 2022 @06:45PM (#29951669)
A different answer from AA, but there are medications such as naltrexone or campral that can help reduce cravings.

I personally have not tried it, but some people use a system called The Sinclair Method (TSM) whereby you take naltrexone prior to drinking, and it is supposed to reduce both the enjoyment you get from alcohol as well as your craving for it, so you would end up drinking much less than normal. I know on reddit, r/Alcoholism_Medication/ has a lot of discussion and resources on it.

For whatever it's worth, you can launch Emacs from the command line.

cd /Applications/Emacs.app/Contents/MacOS

./Emacs-arm64-11_2

Usenet was public and distributed.

Once you posted something, you had no real control over it being retained and archived. There was a message header you could set ("X-No-Archive: yes" IIRC), but it could not really be enforced.

Having a mustache isn't an innate trait. A person could shave or (possibly) grow a mustache, but they cannot change their date of birth.
Re:Ask HN: How are you holding up? on Tuesday June 23, 2020 @09:42AM (#23613779)
I lived in lower Manhattan on Sept 11. The following months were full of anxiety as no one knew if there would be more attacks (hijackings, bombings, perhaps a chemical attack on the subway like what had happened in Tokyo some years earlier). The city was full of missing person posters, who you knew were people who would never be seen again.

After 9/11, a lot of people avoided the subways or going to terrorist targets like Times Square, but life outside of the immediate area around the WTC continued, and even the World Series was played in the Bronx shortly after. 9/11 had a terrible impact, but things returned to almost normal much more quickly than they have with covid-19.

>Both the September 11 terrorist attacks and the Great Recession greatly influenced the attitudes of this generation in the United states, and resulted in a feeling of unsettlement and insecurity among Gen Z.

I'd be surprised if zoomers cared at all about 9/11, since they would've been too young to remember or process it.

Possibly because open beds were located far from New York City. New York state is far larger than the city.
Re:‘We Are Not Essential. We Are Sacrificial.’ on Thursday May 07, 2020 @09:43AM (#23102854)
It's political more than technical. Automating the trains means eliminating the driver's job, and the Transit Worker's Union is opposed to the elimination of those positions.
Re:Vandalize Your Car on Sunday September 08, 2019 @11:23PM (#20914969)
It depends where you live. I'm roughly your age, and have never owned a car, but I live in NYC so it's not much of a limitation.

I got a small message at the top of the tab saying that my add-ons had been disabled. Still, not nearly enough considering what happened.
