Can anyone explain a rational political motivation behind this? I realize "less immigrants" is the hand-wavy explanation, but how does this benefit those in charge?

I had this thing and loved it but it WAS SO G$DD$MN LOUD!!!!!

It was like the sound of a pile of silverware dumped into a garbage disposal played at full volume over an AM radio.

Great controls, though.

Saw your comments in the MomBoard post. This is exactly what I've been looking for. Ordered a dev edition in white :)

So I should not believe attestations by third parties because they are all lies then? https://tether.to/en/transparency/?tab=reports

I guess that would be not much different than Moody's lying about debt ratings prior to 2008.

I don't know. What's going to happen with Tether?

You know, the entire point of this website is to comment on articles with our own thoughts, experiences, and opinions - even if it's moralizing and/or grandstanding.

Can we stop discouraging comments in the comment section? It gets so tiresome.

An easy way around this is to have kids include their friends as characters. Even if it's just a name and reasonable facsimile. And add some silly humor.

Yet another run and jump platformer game with a made-up character is going to be boring. A platformer where Billy from down the street farts jelly beans every time he jumps will probably get a few playthoughs and shares.

Re:The Meaning of Bitcoin on Monday June 10, 2024 @09:39AM (#40633579)
Exactly, but the value proposition of crypto is that it's *very* difficult to disrupt. See Nigeria for a current example of a national government trying and failing to get its population to give up on crypto.

Sir, this is the internet. Nobody reads past the headline before spouting their opinion.
Re:The Meaning of Bitcoin on Monday June 10, 2024 @09:35AM (#40633537)
It's unfortunate that the loudest advocates of crypto in the US and Europe are screeching libertarians and grifters/scammers. They drown out the everyday users in far off places like Argentina and Nigeria that nobody (in the US and Europe) seem to care about.
Re:The Meaning of Bitcoin on Monday June 10, 2024 @09:33AM (#40633503)
Different countries have different regulations and differing levels of permeation within society. Nobody in the US will take crypto as payment (other than a few niche retailers), but it's a pretty popular payment option in places like Argentina, Estonia, El Salvador, Vietnam, India, Singapore, and Nigeria. So popular in Nigeria, in fact, that it's displacing the local currency and the government is (unsuccessfully) trying to ban p2p transactions.
Re:The Meaning of Bitcoin on Monday June 10, 2024 @09:26AM (#40633428)
No. If you're happy with USD, then use USD. If you are Argentinian (or Venezuelan, or Iraqi, or Zimbabwean) and your currency is getting devalued to nothing and the government is restricting access to your funds and preventing you from holding USD, then Bitcoin or Stablecoins are a pretty good option.

The attitude I see a lot (mostly by Americans and Western Europeans) is that "Crypto is not useful to me, therefor it is not useful to anyone" - forgetting that it's a global network open to everyone and anyone. And that other countries exist that are difficult places to live at times.

Maybe they hacked together something that can feasibly me marketed as an AI-assistant knowing that whatever they build now will get "steamrolled" by GPT-5 (Sam's words, not mine). When GPT-5 gets released, update the OS and it'll work as advertised... EZ-PZ!
He's doing exactly what he wants with purpose and determination. Probably enjoying himself. It's not what I would do, but you know - to each his own.
"Avoiding the sun" does not mean "avoid going outside" Long sleeves, hat, sunglasses go a long way to prevent burns and skin cancer. Sunscreen, too, but something tells me this guy doesn't do sunscreen.

Mine is definitely one of those.

Jack has ADD Chili's sister is infertile Winton, Judo, and the Terriers are from single parent households There's a deaf kid featured in Turtleboy There's a wheelchair kid in Quiet Game "Chocolate Milk" from Tradies is in a mixed breed relationship In fact, the whole fact that different breeds are interacting is an allegory for racial inclusion.

So yeah, Bluey gets a little "woke" here and there. Sorry, not sorry.

Re:Why Don't Grocery Stores Stock Pawpaw Fruit? on Friday January 05, 2024 @08:14AM (#38878712)
I got mine from Edible Landscaping in Virginia. The owner is super friendly and very helpful. One of my grafted saplings died almost immediately after planting, and he replaced it no questions asked. https://ediblelandscaping.com/collections/pawpaw
Yesterday's top post linked to this tool: https://www.knotend.com It's a super fast/light flowchart editor. Might be useful!
Re:Smart mushroom growing device for beginners on Monday July 11, 2022 @10:05AM (#32056302)
For the section on growing your own "special" mushrooms, they have a young guy in a baja hoodie watching the "magic" happen and winking at the camera. Pretty sure they're targeting a very specific audience here. Solid marketing.
"My wife's parents would be a huge help with our kids. They're natural and eager grandparents and they're great with our daughter."

This is absolutely priceless no matter where you live.

Re:Kids don't need tools for kids on Monday March 14, 2022 @10:07AM (#30672609)
This conflation is unfortunate. The push towards teaching critical thinking and creative problem solving is the right direction, IMO, and introducing some basic programming tools can help with that. Unfortunately there are a lot of parents that don't see the value and just want their kids to "get good at computers" so they can find a good job in "the future." They badger the schools to crank up the "STEM stuff" so kiddo can grow up and nab one of those obscene starting salaries and be the next [insert infamous tech CEO here].
Re:The Case Against Crypto on Friday December 31, 2021 @09:10AM (#29748176)
This is a great answer. Unfortunately the early narratives around bitcoin, blockchain, and cryptocurrency revolved around crushing and replacing the global financial system rather than upgrading or offering a sensible alternative. Critics then point to these early holy rollers and blanket label anyone interested in crypto a a religious zealot (or a criminal masquerading as a zealot).
