Re:September 2026: The world today, as seen by one Polish guy on Thursday October 01, 2026 @12:24PM (#49923760)
If that was their plan it was incredibly naive, or maybe this is just propaganda to convince suckers that they were trying to do something.

Generally speaking if you want to have some negotiating power you don't make yourself completely dependent on the counterparty.

I never thought of Germany as a nation of morons but maybe it's time to revisit that.

Two in particular, those with a distrust of or ignorance to authority, and those with a paternal expectation of abstinence (with extreme punitive consequences for defiance) and therefore no need for such a vaccine.

The former of course is (uncomfortably) why we have seen a resurgence in smallpox, measles, and scabies.

>Merkel tried to reign in Putin with Gas.

It's rein.

It's also nonsense, Russia had Germany on a leash, you cannot seriously believe Merkel was playing Putin.

Purely of exemplary design...

XJR15, XJ220, GT40, e-type, d-type, c-type, xk120 ots, mclaren f1, dbr 1, db4, db5, db7, dbr9, v8 coupe/vantage, series landrovers, defender, rangie, esprit, elise, lotus 49, 72, et al, RS200, 6r4, Morgan, Cerbera, Tuscan, Speed 12, T33, T50, Blue Train, 4½ litre, continental (og), continental (modern), arnage, Rolls...on and on, and on.

If the question was iconic, like you say it'd be much easier but then the P1 wouldn't even get a mention.

Re:What makes software development engineering on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @11:12AM (#49894719)
oi, you got a licence for that keyboard?

American employment licencing needs urgent review, and fewer licenced professions, not more.

Re:Best of British Design on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @10:42AM (#49894184)
that wouldn't even crack my top twenty British designed cars, let alone this list.
Suspect this is caused by demographic shift, don't know any people who have even the remotest HPV vaccine hesitation over the past twenty plus years.

Know that it is common among certain demographics though.

exactly like this yes.
does it matter?

The quality is so low, of submission, discourse, and people.

I can take only a few minutes of scrolling through naively instructive subcomments "fun fact, water is actually wet", or needless authority seeking "as an AuDHD can confirm", the prepending of "super" to everything "this is super not good", it's like reading pure cliche, adding bots in can only improve it, ideally by precipitating it's demise.

"let's call it...accelerationism"

Re:I Switched to Brave Browser on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @04:11AM (#49889816)
do you remember when we didn't have to know everything about everyone and didn't feel obliged to only use products created by those with the same opinions as us?

same I've wanted that for so long, but never found the right display.
Mother Jones on Hacker News?

Standards slipping significantly if this despicable propaganda rag are permitted.

Re:The Forgotten Battle of East Lansing on Friday September 25, 2026 @06:00AM (#49842338)
I’m not sure that’s true, I was able to infer from context what MSC stands for and if you’ve had exposure to American culture then ROTC is quite common.

I live 3000 miles from east Lansing.

>There's a huge spectrum of, let's call it, aggressive speech, ranging from…

Why do you talk like that?

Are you one of the redditors that has been invading this heterodox environment.

>There's a spectrum of aggressive speech, ranging from

Is sufficient and much less cringe.

Interesting isn’t it, because one might say of a convicted murderer “I think they should hang” and while it’s clearly contentious and morally questionable it’s also broadly seen as acceptable speech.

When the context is altered it suddenly becomes worthy of prosecution? I don’t think that’s fair, by holding or stating an opinion you do not induce its outcome.

If you think some words or even some of the above actions are worse than what has been happening you must truly live in ignorance.
Re:The mystery animal on an ancient god's head on Thursday September 24, 2026 @06:47AM (#49828805)
The Greeks popularized the epithet of Jews being donkey-worshippers there is evidence that it predates this and since Set, Typhon, and Yahweh are in some aspects syncretic, by induction and by appearance I can't see how it isn't a donkey.

desperately but it doesn't seem to be on the cards.
Re:People Hooked on Vapes Try a New Way to Quit: Cigarettes on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @05:53AM (#49813677)
I found quitting vaping far harder than quitting smokes, there is near zero friction to vaping.

I quit smoking when it was more socially accepted, it's probably much easier to quit now that a pack costs so much and there are so few places you can do it.

I haven't used Delphi since I was a child.
true, especially corporate SecOps, it is theatre, mere tickboxery to defer liability.

Most security professionals I've met in my career border on being non-technical, there are of course security researchers and a whole arcane and academic field that exists well beneath the surface but it is so far removed from the every-day.

Re:Claude Opus 5.5 on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @04:44AM (#49813272)
Not really, the big three have reached diminishing returns in terms of performance, and exponentially costly training to achieve those meagre gains. Worried their lunch will be eaten they are trying to artificially retard the competition, after all the only barrier is hardware.

It's common even at a local grassroots level where local businesses will feature on the kits.

Re:I don't want to read what you didn't write on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @04:43AM (#49798222)
This is grotesque.

Everyone is an elitist, when you've enplaned do you assume the pilot is qualified to fly it or do you hope everyone gets a turn? Admittance to the canon is no less a responsibility, would you trust the yoke of human culture to the artless, craftless, and naive?

Re:I don't want to read what you didn't write on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @04:28AM (#49798130)
this is such a bad faith Reddit-tier comment.
Re:Frontier Labs Are Selling Garbage to Fools in Washington on Monday September 21, 2026 @05:42AM (#49785119)
Brute-forcing the plagiarized and in-progress work of an established mathematician, utilizing the collected efforts of hundreds of other mathematicians over the past century is hardly the victory you seem to think it is.

Do you feel like you're getting good value for money if you solve a millenium problem at a fourteen million dollar loss?

>I don’t have closed eye visuals

Nobody does, this is all unfalsifiable nonsense, it's an artifact of the language used to describe imagination.
