Re:Ask HN: Why am I suddenly unemployable? on Monday January 15, 2024 @09:27AM (#39001325)
I recommend including quantitative data, i.e. the feature I worked on increased user engagement by 15%.
Re:The Onyx Programming Language on Friday December 08, 2023 @01:13PM (#38572165)
Great question. It looks like a cool language, but why should I use it?
Re:Huh? Why we're all watching TV with subtitles on on Friday May 05, 2023 @01:45PM (#35832693)
I can’t stand watching television or films with subtitles on (unless it is in a foreign language). It ruins the delivery of the dialog.
Re:The Object-Oriented Toaster (1997) on Tuesday December 01, 2015 @02:55PM (#10658252)
I'm surprised I haven't read this before. Very entertaining.
Re:What Elm and Haskell are teaching mainstream JS [video] on Tuesday December 01, 2015 @02:53PM (#10658241)
Elm is definitely a very interesting language. I would recommend the following if anyone is interested in seriously learning it:

Re:Show HN: Goto – A Linux shell 'cd' replacement tool on Wednesday February 04, 2015 @12:36PM (#8998201)
No problem. However, I usually use z - https://github.com/rupa/z to jump around, but I like the shortcuts concept of goto.
Re:Show HN: Goto – A Linux shell 'cd' replacement tool on Wednesday February 04, 2015 @01:24AM (#8995600)
This looks cool. I’m going to give it a “check” on my Mac.

EDIT: Appears to be working peachy on OS X 10.10.2 with zsh.

Re:Show HN: Matterhorn – Your new project manager on Wednesday February 04, 2015 @01:23AM (#8995596)
I’m in agreement. The pricing is quite high for a new product, and there is a lot of competition out there.
Re:Xiki: An amazing shell on Monday July 07, 2014 @05:24AM (#7997865)
I've been thinking about trying out Fish shell for awhile, though I have zsh setup to my liking.

Concerning Xiki, it definitely remind me of Emacs org mode / shell.

Re:Teenage Haskell on Saturday June 28, 2014 @10:46AM (#7958321)
Another great resource to learn functional programming. Thanks.
Re:Functional programming in Clojure on Saturday June 28, 2014 @10:30AM (#7958285)
Thanks, this looks like a great course. Not quite sure how to sign-up but I'm sure I'll figure it out :)
Dash really is an indispensable developer's tool for OS X, but it took me a bit to integrate it into my work flow. Now I use it all the time, it's great.
Re:SkrivML: A lightweight markup language on Friday May 23, 2014 @12:46AM (#7788018)
I like the syntax. However, how many markup/markdown languages do we need?
Re:Rust by Example on Saturday April 26, 2014 @10:22AM (#7651442)
I'm very interested in learning either Go or Rust. Of course I could learn both, but when I learn a new language (or anything really), I like to really immerse myself and focus.

I'm leaning towards Go but Rust is very interesting.

Re:Extend Python 2.7 life till 2020 on Sunday April 13, 2014 @11:54PM (#7584445)
Can anyone point me in the right direction of an article that sums up how this whole fragmentation started? I'm curious to know the history.
Re:Extend Python 2.7 life till 2020 on Sunday April 13, 2014 @06:48PM (#7583462)
Amen. I started to code a bit in OCaml and it's great.
Maybe I'll actually use Puppet now. Very cool news.
Re:Extend Python 2.7 life till 2020 on Sunday April 13, 2014 @03:41PM (#7582641)
I really thought this thread was a prank or joke when I saw the title. Sadly, it's not. The whole 2.7 / 3.x debacle is a large part of why I I have more or less stopped coding in Python and moved on to Ruby. The community is a large part of it as well.
Re:Drop Dropbox on Thursday April 10, 2014 @12:27PM (#7567551)
I'm floored by this news, and extremely disappointed with Dropbox. From the beginning I have been a huge proponent of Dropbox. I was lucky enough to get a free 50 GB account, and I use it for probably 30+ daily automated tasks. I will absolutely not be using Dropbox for any reason whatsoever if she remains on the board...I'm going to wait a week and see if they remove her and if not, bye bye.
Re:Show HN: Learning SICP with Understudy on Wednesday April 09, 2014 @09:41PM (#7563712)
Thanks.
Re:Show HN: Narwhal – iOS 7 app for Reddit on Wednesday April 09, 2014 @04:55PM (#7562314)
This looks great. I've never been happy with the other iOS applications for Reddit, Narwhal will probably be my default Reddit application now.
Re:Show HN: Learning SICP with Understudy on Wednesday April 09, 2014 @04:17PM (#7562056)
Question - would you recommend working through SICP in Racket? What about MIT Scheme in Emacs?
Seems reasonable to me.
Re:A Breakup Letter to Facebook from Eat24 on Saturday March 29, 2014 @01:03PM (#7492911)
yawn

Another "breakup letter"...fascinating...

Re:Gravity waves from Big Bang detected on Monday March 17, 2014 @01:06PM (#7416367)
Of course. Would you expect anything less from popular media?
Re:Gravity waves from Big Bang detected on Monday March 17, 2014 @01:05PM (#7416363)
How would you folks rate the significance of this, let's say as far as scientific discoveries / realizations go in the last 100 years? Yes, of course this is completely subjective. I would say in the top three.
Re:Intel Processors to Become OS Locked on Monday March 17, 2014 @12:56PM (#7416308)
I agree with you. This doesn't make any sense from a financial perspective for Intel.
Re:Introducing OneNote for Mac on Monday March 17, 2014 @12:54PM (#7416279)
This might have excited me four years ago, I've long since switched to Evernote + nvALT/taskpaper.
Re:Bashstrap – For your OS X terminal on Tuesday December 31, 2013 @01:19PM (#6991923)
I would like to use fish shell but my .bash_profile is setup exactly as I want it, and when I've switched to other shells before (zsh) it has been a general pain in the ass. How do I retain my current bash settings in fish shell?
Re:Supercomputing on the cheap with Parallella on Tuesday December 10, 2013 @04:35PM (#6883881)
Could this be used for scrypt-based altcoin mining?
