Re:Open Source Personal Relationship Manager on Tuesday November 15, 2022 @08:03PM (#33617522)
This project makes me feel sick.
I hate cops, busybody citizens, and anything to do with toll roads. Put them all in Rikers Island except for the driver.
Re:Lemmy: A Federated Reddit Alternative on Tuesday November 15, 2022 @05:33PM (#33616089)
I'm not sure this is a huge issue if you set up user expectations adequately. Just like [email protected] isn't the same account as [email protected].

A workable alternative would be using a pubkey fingerprint with an mutable display name, but who wants to help their family sort that out?

Re:Studies find automatic braking can cut crashes over 40% on Tuesday November 15, 2022 @11:11AM (#33611000)
It's a bit of a stretch to compare software overriding intentional input from the driver to the introduction of seatbelts.
Re:Tutankhamun's Meteoric Iron Dagger on Tuesday November 15, 2022 @10:43AM (#33610537)
Also of interest: Widmanstätten patterns.

You'll see it on some ancient meteoric iron work. Looks pretty cool.

Fuck no. I had to deal with a rental that had driver assist technology and it damn near killed me. There was a boulder on the road around a blind corner and the car fought me trying to swerve out of the way, I barely avoided it.

Imagine auto braking on black ice or because of a faulty sensor. We're giving immature technology too much control of the vehicle.

Re:'Be' is nice. End of story on Tuesday November 15, 2022 @12:24AM (#33605638)
Cool story I heard about Be once: the engineers could override their managers and had final say.
Re:.io Domains Considered Harmful on Monday November 14, 2022 @11:10PM (#33605162)
The worst I can say about .io is that it's a fad TLD for software projects from about 10 years ago.

The best I can say about .io is that nvim uses it.

Re:Coral Restoration Goes Big on Saturday November 12, 2022 @11:23PM (#33580021)
Fun fact: mass extinction events in earth's history coincide with worldwide coral bleaching events.
I'm so sorry. My mom was diagnosed a few years ago and she got preyed on by snake oil salesmen to the tune of 6 digits. The money doesn't matter to me, but people are really fucked up.

I can recommend Duke's neuro-oncology center though. They did a great job with her when Sloan Kettering wouldn't touch her.

Best of luck to the both of you and hang in there.

Not CAR-T or CRISPR AFAIK, but there's been some recent breakthroughs with getting treatments past the blood brain barrier, and promising glioblastoma treatments are in the pipeline as well. This is just what I've seen on the internet news, you'd find more than I know about it with some internet searches.

I hope you aren't affected by GBM. If you are, or someone you know is, live life to the fullest while you can and don't let yourself fall into denial of the prognosis.
