It's pretty clear that the comments on this forum have gotten worse over the years, and I really really doubt banning people from calling that out is going to solve the problem.

Disappointed yet again with upvoted comments on hacker news defending murderers and terrorists. There's defending free speech then there's defending terrorism. This is not ok.

That's not the issue. The issue is the Postal Service was required to prefund its pension plan 75 years in the future, a requirement no other government corporation has: https://ips-dc.org/how-congress-manufactured-a-postal-crisis...

The Fed doesn't have that power though, nor should they. That's up to congress to decide

I'm a socialist but I applaud anyone willing to stand up against amoral practices like this. Your position closely resembles Warren's opinions on this matter.

Yeah, I don't agree with people advocating for violence against me. That's why I don't want it in my social circles. What's wrong with that? Why do you support hate speech? Do you agree with it?

If by "controlling what information you're allowed to access" you mean removing hate speech, then yeah they have the right and the duty to do that. I really wonder why you're against that.

Kinda. The breadbasket became the Great Plains, which resulted in the destruction of that habitat. The question is, is it worse to replace forest with farmland or plains with farmland?

Re:Farm country feeds America, but try buying groceries there

I'm from upstate NY, and the loss of "breadbasket" status was great for the local ecology. When we were the breadbasket of the country (when the country was much younger), all the forests were cut down and erosion and water quality were a much bigger issue.
Re:Dissent at Facebook over hands-off stance on political ads

Not all ads necessarily contain statements that would force Facebook to take a side on any issue or become an arbiter of truth. They could simply restrict political ads to essentially just "Vote for [candidate]", or something similar.

Source for your claim that this river is always in this state? Because the article disagrees with you. You don't think the country's largest drought has any impact on its largest river?
You seem looking for a reason to bash climate change and journalism in general.

Re:Make More Land

I'm not talking about global sea level, I'm talking about flooding outside of the dikes. This happens all the time in the Mississippi river.

That's not how water works. It doesn't magically spread out throughout the entire ocean immediately
Re:Make More Land
on Wednesday October 16, 2019 @01:16PM (#21272822)
You're ignoring the fact that the water has to go somewhere. Where is it going to go? Are you willing to flood your neighbors? Are your neighbors going to let you?
