Re:The Largest Electric Aircraft Just Flew [video] on Friday September 04, 2026 @12:50AM (#49560645)
The energy used to achieve altitude is then saved in the descent stage. So that’s not an issue for aircraft, regardless of how they’re powered. This is why every flight you’ve ever been on climbs to cruise altitude as fast as possible.

High altitude where the air is less dense is better for speed due to less drag. This is also power source agnostic.

It’s taken thirty years for lithium batteries to double in energy density, and the rate of increase has tapered off recently.

An aircraft like this can be used two or three times a day, while spending the rest of the time charging.

A piston or turbine powered aircraft can run all day.

More importantly, take note of:

Local Court in Germany is the equivalent of the Magistrates Court in the UK or Australia.

Definitely not the arbiter of ultimate truth.

Somebody exerted effort.

That’s it.

Don’t care.

You’re not allowed to have an opinion other than The One True Opinion around here anymore.

Even if you write well thought out comments, with references to primary sources, you’ll get downvoted, flagged, and rate limited, if you don’t stick to The Narrative.

Re:A joke domain purchase turned in geopolitical warfare on Thursday August 20, 2026 @12:18PM (#49376721)
There are no natural rights.

Only rights you’re willing to kill to protect.

Or to force someone else to kill to protect for you.

Re:A joke domain purchase turned in geopolitical warfare on Thursday August 20, 2026 @12:17PM (#49376702)
Further to your point:

Rights only exist up until the point someone is willing to trample them.

Then you’ve got to be willing to fight for them.

At which point everyone’s rights go straight out the window.

Who’s funding the Ukrainian war effort?

> Do you expect them to list every one of their personal geopolitical stances, regardless of the relevance to the article?

The author of the article lives in Melbourne, so I can assure you, they absolutely do given half a chance.

Sorry but that is ridiculous.

> could reasonably be misconstrued as undue skepticism in favor of flock.

In order to believe that one would have to be hauling in some heavy bags full of bias and force Thomas‘s comments through some rigid filters.

> I would just be mindful of how you talk

Pfff. That’s the most stupid thing I’ve read on this forum in 15 years.

This forum used to be filled with in-depth conversations, back-and-forth that opened one’s mind to many facets of a topic.

Now it’s full of wankers.

> It squeezes me with approximately the weight of an elephant sitting on my chest

Nope.

> It helps that the insides of my lungs are being squeezed outwards by the same force.

So you agree your first statement is incorrect. I’m glad we sorted that out.

Oh, sorry, I thought we were having a conversation.

My mistake.

Safe enough to not be allowed on air freight.

Safe enough to not be allowed in checked baggage on commercial passenger aircraft.

Safe enough to kill e-bike riders, safe enough to kill people at home charging their e-bike / e-scooter / electric car.

Perfectly safe.

No trade offs, just safety.

Is that an aged adjusted statistic?

Or is it comparing with the entire gasoline vehicle fleet?

Gasoline or diesel fires can be extinguished.

Lithium ion battery fires less so.

Surly you don’t mean to imply that a sufficiently large lithium ion battery fire couldn’t burn down a bridge?

That’s a hyper local measurement, and temperature dependant.

You’d sure notice if the air in your kitchen was swooshing around at 671 miles per hour.

That’s a good point, and obvious now you point it out.

On the other hand, when water turns into steam at standard atmospheric pressure, it expands in volume by about 1,700 times.

Whereas the gas in your stove is already a vapour, mostly methane, turning in to mostly water vapour and carbon dioxide. So the expansion ratio isn’t going to be anywhere near as high as that.

I’d say you’re still right.

Still, I wonder to what extent an exhaust fan does help.

If the exhaust fan can vent x cubic feet per minute and the room is y cubic feet in volume then it takes z minutes to full ventilate the room, etc etc.

Yeah, aren’t the EV tyre’s compounded differently in some way to account for the extra weight?

If the weight on each wheel is greater I’d have assumed the tyre would need to be harder, for the same performance.

I would have assumed that would counter the otherwise additional wear, but I keep hearing EV tyre pollution is higher and yet everyone who owns one has always said they aren’t changing tyres an more than they did on their combustion cars.

Until one has a battery thermal runaway event.

Or an entire truckload of batteries catches fire.

StasheD is an engineer and firefighter, quite eye opening.

https://youtu.be/diaUMNONpvw?si=7lxYS8iJHLvCTUkt

You need a NMAID Non-Misanthropic Anti-Inflammatory Drug.
I’ve often wondered about this.

Does the area immediately above where the gas stove was have an exhaust fan that vents to atmosphere?

I would have assumed a properly specced exhaust fan would capture and remove combustion products from a gas stove?

A reasonable compromise is achieved by an air purifier that has the outlet on top because it’s blowing the filtered air well away from the inlet side and generally circulates the air in the room.

I used to work in the cleanest room in the state, that wasn’t a lab, back when I lived in Adelaide, and top-inlet button-outlet in a raised floor data centre is how the air handling units in the main data hall worked, so you can simulate that to a certain extent.

> The more effective the filter the more it restricts airflow.

This isn’t the whole story. Surface area and flow rate are factors.

A residential home is aiming to improve air quality, rather than grow flawless silicon ingots etc.

Sanitariums

I guess the modern descendants are the health retreat, the rural airbnb, and the day spa that offers oxygen therapy.

No.

You don’t own the search provider.

You don’t get to decide how they display results.

You can use one that works how you like, there are plenty to choose from.

Grow up.

Everyone who’s anyone online is the target of “online extremists”.

Especially politicians.

Re:Wellington second-hand bookstore's mysterious orders on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @02:32PM (#49350357)
The idea that Jacinda Arden has any takent is laughable.

She was Prime Minister of New Zealand when Lesbian DEI hire Commander Yvonne Gray was installed as captain of the HMNZS Manawanui.

Yvonne then proceeded to steam the survey vessel in to the rocks.

So there’s that.

It’s really not a good look to help fuck the country as Prime Minister then do the piss bolt.

Re:Wellington second-hand bookstore's mysterious orders on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @01:26AM (#49341606)
Jacinda Ardern and her family.

Because she’s so reviled by New Zealanders she left NZ.

What do you want it to do?

I’ve used it, it works.

The handful of other things I’ve used that do the same thing or something similar are roughly the same.

All attempts at making the UI look better invariably obfuscated tools.
