I have a ViewSonic ultrawide like this, picked it up as a factory refurb from their eBay account. Makes it incredibly easy to switch between work and personal laptops (Mac and pc), as well as a gaming tower.

FWIW I use Firefox with uBlock Origin and Enhanced Tracking Protection, and use Chase's website almost weekly. No issues that I've noticed on MacOS or Windows
The ticket is for “two days of resources that you personally can use”, not “two days of resources that can be used by any number of ticket-holders.”

It’s like the “free as in beer” explanation, I can’t pull up to my local bar running a promotion and fill up a tanker truck. Maybe they’re being hostile to me, a would-be customer, for that, but it’s simply not what’s being offered up.

The EO itself agrees with this and says that the War title is secondary. It explicitly doesn’t truly rename the department.
Only Congress can change the name of a federal department, so the Department of Defense is still properly called that.

The most common one I run into is with volumes, when the full path doesn't already exist. Docker will just make the path, Podman throws an error. It's been called a "bug" in docker but the fact is everyone just expects the paths to be created. I want it to just work, not make everyone in the industry redo their dockerfiles to be "correct."

https://github.com/containers/podman/issues/6234

It looks like there was some work done to resolve this in 2023 and 2024 but I know this was still happening for me in mid 2025. Podman is technically correct here but functionally broken in a way that keeps pushing me away because I don't have time to deal with that :(

In one case a member of the Upper, and in the other a member of the Lower, House put this question. I am not able rightly to apprehend the kind of confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.

The summary at the top of the page says

> ABC said it was pulling the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” show off the air “indefinitely” after controversial comments by its host about the slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

but the article says the following, which is entirely different:

> “The MAGA Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said.

> “In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving,” he added.

Re:Long Term Support on Friday August 01, 2025 @01:34PM (#44759812)
from your sibling comment: > "var" also makes your code less reliable as seen in this example

I disagree with this too, I think your example is a classic case of preprocessor directives making it difficult to know what your code is doing because the build system is going to conditionally change your code. Var or not, you can't even know what's being compiled just by looking at the file, and that's a larger problem than the use of var

Re:Long Term Support on Friday August 01, 2025 @01:20PM (#44759654)
Ok but var has been around since C# 3.0 in 2007. Love it or hate it, using that keyword in 2025 signals nothing about how current your skills are.

Thanks, as always, to our program's co-founder, Mr. Torey Malatia. He spent his July 4th weekend setting the record for baking the world’s largest deep dish pizza, and as he tells it, having it for dinner was no small feat:

>imposed lockdown and mandate policies with zero scientific basis

The If Books Could Kill podcast just came out with an episode last week about how the phrase "lockdown and mandate policies [have] zero scientific basis" is almost technically true but is certainly incredibly misleading. The short version is that it would be incredibly difficult to ethically test many healthcare policies to the point that they have scientific support in the way we usually think of having evidence... but we can look at the preponderance of evidence we do have and understand that masks help block germs and viruses, staying home from work or school means I won't transmit contagious diseases to my colleagues, etc

They do web analytics so definitely end up on block lists for people who don’t want to be tracked.

(I’ve used PostHog on several projects and feel that they are better for privacy than, say, GA, but understand why people would block them)

For those who don't know, you can tap on the link preview graphic and select "Convert to Text Link" to switch back to clickable text. As you mention there's no way to change the automatic behavior but at least it is possible to switch back to text links on a case-by-case basis.

Re:The April Fools joke that might have got me fired on Tuesday April 01, 2025 @12:04PM (#43548415)
I had a client (a national company with multiple locations and call centers!) that was using Lotus Notes for email in 2022, and for all I know they could still be using it. They had to run parallel calendars to work with external event invites, and apparently one of the calendars was backed by a system with a clock that was 5 minutes off because everyone was always getting to virtual meetings at the wrong time.
