News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

I for one am very concerned that someone may be able to spoof a device on my WLAN and listen to plain text packets or spoof packets of a device. Do you know how many users would click proceed if they got a certificate mismatch warning not even knowing what it means?

So then IA just needs to have a free membership and implement the most basic DRM.
Re:We updated our RSA SSH host key on Friday March 24, 2023 @01:44AM (#35285471)
Good that they changed it but this is certain to break a lot of automation pipelines. I'd rather be safe than sorry though.
Re:The privacy loophole in your doorbell on Wednesday March 08, 2023 @05:02PM (#35075357)
I used to think the same thing until I caught a 40 year old man stalking my teen daughter and continually trying to peer into her bedroom windows on camera. So while it feels good to be ignorant, it doesn't make everything go away. Also, the people commiting crime seem the most concerned with people having cameras. Hmm, wonder why.
Re:Chrome DevTools, Scroll Into View gets around paywalls on Monday February 27, 2023 @02:56AM (#34954095)
Some sites now are literally not loading the actual paywalled content until after you sign in, so not matter what you do you aren't going to be able to access it unless someone with a paid subscription shares that content and it is then uploaded to a third party paywall bypasser.
Re:Valent Is a KDE Connect Client for GTK-Based Desktops on Saturday February 25, 2023 @05:01PM (#34940903)
GTK != Gnome. KDE is extremely bloated and so that is why I avoid it. One KDE package wants to pull in pretty much all the dependencies for a full desktop environment which isn't what I want to do.
So the government investigates a big disaster caused in part by their actions and everything is within normal levels. A lot of time the same regulators will say the water is fine when brown stuff is coming out of the faucet.
They can feel it now with the toxic chemicals in the atmosphere and in their water.
Hasn't the new uBlock for manifest v3 been working?
"They used to come up and rub my leg hair. The kids loved to rub my legs."
When it is clear that the interests of the workers and the interests of the company aren't being decided evenly, it is time to repeal those laws. Until Democrats start unilaterally proposing new legislation to repeal those laws they have to share the blame. They contributed to this mess.
Wasn't railroad workers recently on strike for better conditions and Congress basically forced them back to work under threat of arrest?
Bye then. I can see you're planning on ignoring actual legislation being pushed and in many places passed doing just that.
Thank you for delivering on that. I am not denying that the holocaust happened, but what bothers me is that people are so quick to claim antisemitism for questioning things.
It doesn't put you on the road to holocaust denial. Did I say the holocaust didn't happen? No, I said the ability to not question things is fishy. You seem to equate that with full on denial. Why would you be so worried about people asking questions? If people deny something that have been proven then that is just them outing themselves as ignorant. Arresting people and making laws that make questioning things illegal is full on censorship and authoritarianism. It isn't even real history when you go down that path, it is a forced narrative.
The allies were also motivated to inflate numbers to boost their war efforts. I remember similar things happening during the Iraq War... remember all those weapons of mass destruction that they were pushing, and then come to find out you were manipulated and fell for it.
Israel is an apartheid state. Sorry if you want to deny the truth.
It's irrelevant to the truth to study history and try to make it accurate? If people were trying to determine how many people died during the civil war no one would care, but simply trying to determine how many people died during WW2 is antisemitic? Yeah, keep pretending like that isn't fishy.
What is weird is that they want to make it illegal in Canada and the US to even study or question history. It is already illegal in other countries. They want people to fear that simply asking questions could result in getting knocked unconscious and they want people so radicalized that they are willing to do that to anyone who dares ask questions. Why? Why must an apartheid state have so much power?
Agreed, but Microsoft is the type to use AI to run manipulation campaigns. I remember them using NVIDIA Teslas for AI back in 2015 and loading Reddit big data to manipulate social media and counter negative news about them.

Seems like the typical Musk-suppression filters could be readjusted.
Isn't there some board for out there conspiracies?
These services get paid to promote content. Did you think they are going to promote legit content?
Re:CoinTracker meltdown due to Universal Wallet Tracking on Saturday February 11, 2023 @12:59AM (#34749964)
Can you blame them? These companies can steal money from you and pretty much anything else and people will keep using them. Doesn't matter what they do really if there are no major consequences.
Re:Ask HN: Why Did Medium.com “Fail"? on Saturday February 11, 2023 @12:53AM (#34749945)
These aren't even the real pain points. Most people using Medium aren't using it to discover new content. The CEO clearly has no clue what they are doing.
These aren't even real analyst. They are propagandist.
Re:Yahoo will lay off 20% of staff, or 1600 people on Friday February 10, 2023 @12:29AM (#34735981)
What kind of impact? Yahoo unfortunately has a lot of impact from their news service. It is crap news IMO but a lot of people are into clickbait.
I get scam calls based on being a previous Xfinity customer and Xfinity got their database hacked and never disclosed the breach. I even had one of those email alias services with a unique Xfinity email address to prove it and Xfinity just ignored the reports.
Re:GitHub to layoff 10% and closing all offices on Thursday February 09, 2023 @12:42PM (#34727902)
Agreed. Probably worse than Teams is Azure, Windows, etc. While things have changed Microsoft would give grief to developers that wanted to run Linux and that was really into open source.
At least for Chromium and Android, they are open source and more standard to propose and contribute changes. Yes, Google isn't perfect but they have done a much better job overall for their consumer tools and products.
