Sorry, as cool as I find it from a mechanical perspective, I can never approve of vinyl.

From the perspective of an amateur DJ and dedicated dancer, vinyl never really died in the underground dance scene, whether talking about the UK dubscene or German techno.

And as much as I love and respect vinyl DJs, the medium itself is often used to make vinyl exclusive releases (looking at you UK), gatekeeping the music literally, make the runs limited and super exclusive, and obviously super expensive.

Not to mention it makes little sense, musically, to put a digitally produced track on an analog medium. Collecting old music on vinyl is one thing, getting all your new music (produced on Abelton) as vinyl is just silly to me. Again, completely understand why vinyl only DJs do it.

To me vinyl is totally contrary to the DIY culture of underground dance music, and I simply won't buy any new vinyl (not to say DJ culture is DIY, but techno culture for example really is at its core punk DIY).

I would much rather the producer just made a shirt instead of a special deluxe vinyl edition for the super fans with too much money (and the couple of vinyl only DJs that will buy it). I'd rather spend that money on more new music, that I can own as FLAC forever.

And I would REALLY like if all the old vinyls were professionally ripped and sold by their labels. Because sooner or later they WILL all disappear, which I guess if you're a collector/secretive DJ is a good thing... Really shocking that a lot of this old music can only be found in good quality on Youtube rips. Yes, better than if you were able to dig out a 30 year old record in a store.

Well here's an economic application without nuclear tipped warheads.

What are the moral downsides of pirating a game you can't buy anywhere?
Care to mention one?

Tha fact that he just shuffled around the letters of his own name for the fake economist is simply amazing.

Brave new world.

Re:Why does Britain feel so poor? on Friday April 04, 2025 @09:55AM (#43582447)
Getting so tired of HN, every thread has these kinds of vague, ignorant, semi-political comments. Just a throwaway opinion with some unrelated quote to appear smart, not related to the posted link, nothing added to the discussion.

The Suez Crisis happened 70(!) years ago, the article is talking about where modern day UK spends its money. It's literally right there in the opening sentence, if you only bothered to open it:

>Britain is a rich country with the world’s 6th largest economy and the highest tax income for decades, which raises a simple question - why do we seem so broke?

Aside from strictly technical topics, this community is now worse than Reddit.

You should understand what putting a word in quotes means, regardless of internet memes.

>hey’d see kids after dark at the school and just assume we were up to no good.

That sounds totally crazy to me, did these people get into any trouble or fined for just calling the police like that? I assume you're american, in my eastern european country they would NOT be happy about getting called 5 times for this...

Re:Your last name contains invalid characters (2010) on Wednesday January 10, 2024 @05:17AM (#38938521)
At least ss is an acceptable and widley understood replacement for ß.

My last name end on "ić" so every time, even on many EU shops and websites, I get to choose if I want to write my name wrong with "ic" and definitley get the package(cause the post understands) or write my name properly and get my package in 90% of cases.

Its just plain weird that a Spanish/French/UK online shop will support their weird characters but not full Unicode.

Re:The World Has Already Ended on Monday January 08, 2024 @07:17AM (#38910911)
I find it really difficult to imagine how are people OK with bringing new children into this world, I don't even live in a particulary poor or horrible country.
>Isn't defense also supposed to be targeted against an aggressor?

Gaza is the agressor.

>How could the millions of innocent civilians that Israel is displacing, destroying all their houses and belongings and killing (and maybe torturing as described in this article), be considered in any way as aggressor?

Because they are launching rockets and hostage raids against Israel?

>if a terrorist hid in an appartement building, and the police came, start killing all the inhabitants of the building and destroyed the building, in order to stop that terrorist, would you be wondering if that response is legitimate defense? I don't think so.

How is that in any way related to the situation in Gaza? Hamas aren't random terrorists, they're the government, they control the whole territory, they get paid taxes, they have bases all over Gaza.

This is war.

>How come companies like TSMC can't build their own machines?

Why should they be able to?

>Is there really only one company in the world that has the required skills?

Yes, they invested for decades into R&D for EUV lithography.

>Or is it only because of patents and exclusivity agreements?

No, they have a multi billion dollar and decade long lead.

It makes much more sense to try and pour money into a next generation manufacturing technology and work on it. Easier said then done.

Raped to death? Burned alive?

Huh? I honestly thought this was the normal way to park. I guess parking spaces are big enough in america that you don't need it.

I'd say it's actually pretty typical of corporations operated by global investment groups.
Yeah that's the whole reason why subs are shutting down. Because the mods care, even if their users don't.
Really sad post.

The whole point of not using social media is to push you to actually meet people in real life. Form real connections instead of reading single sentence comments.

This guy is too scared to even make a new profile because he would have to send new friend requests to all of his "friends".

I'm sorry, are you making some sort of offensive joke or do you really think the world works in such stereotypes and prejudices?

Rave people are "brightly colored and fidgety" ?? A polished entrepreneur is incapable of ordering in a low class bar?

Jesus F Christ.

ChatGPT has quite literally nothing to do with tech lay-offs.

Read a freaking newspaper once in a while.

Is it any good? I'll believe it when I hear it.
Do HN readers even grasp the fact that most people in the world don't have a bunch of Tesla chargers on their highways? That you're writing your comments on the global internet?

That some people drive into nature where there is no electricity whatsoever?

Re:My ADHD Founder Toolbox on Thursday November 17, 2022 @07:29AM (#33637984)
And yet I'm seeing here a whole thread of people talking about astronomical doses, reduced effects after tolerance kicks in, negative experiences and so on. So classic drug talk.

Seems pretty strange that I should take your sourceless claims as gospel over theirs.

>Stimulant medication aren't speed, they're like "1/100 speed".

These are literally two identical substances with almost identical effects (the only difference is the ration of amph salts). Difference is dosage.

Can't understand why would you claim what you say, when Adderall is used and abused in the same exact manner as amphetamine paste is in Europe. Anecdotally I hear in USA they throw it at you like candy.

>But comparing them to speed is just wrong and irresponsible,

I stand by what I said, if you saw the numbers of amphetamine addicts on the street in USA the same way you see opoid addicts, you would have a different national perspective on these drugs.

>it makes people afraid of trying what could be effective treatment

Yes, they should be cautions in my opinion.

I personally am not taking any new chances with addiction, even though I'm sure I would have benefits, at least short term.

I'll just hobble along. Using crutches can make physical rehabilitation impossible.

Re:My ADHD Founder Toolbox on Thursday November 17, 2022 @06:13AM (#33637367)
I don't care about stigma, but comparing a drug to a wheel chair is just ridiculous.

I don't want to get addicted to another thing in my life, here in Europe we're quite familiar with (ab)using speed (amphetamine paste) and the idea of being on speed every single day seems pretty bad.

I don't feel "more like myself" on speed and I seriously doubt most positive effect would persist after a year of using and rising tolerance.

Is that really so shocking to you? You can observe this in any Arab Muslim country today.

Re:Digital Books wear out faster than Physical Books on Wednesday November 16, 2022 @05:16AM (#33620952)
Sounds like it is actually hard to store books correctly.

I couldn't even be bothered to bring my couple of hundred children's books when I moved from my parents house, let alone 30 000.

Re:The Positive Effect of Walking on Creative Thinking [pdf] on Tuesday November 15, 2022 @05:06AM (#33607310)
Walking shouldn't hurt your back and its very worrying that it does, you should look into some resistance exercise.
>A friend of mine who is very seriously into bodybuilding gets some crazy useful (according to him) exercise technique/regimen videos that are very far from the mainstream "exercise routine/fitness advice" videos.

yeah, getting "non-mainstream" fitness advice from freaking short form videos is just about the dumbest thing I've heard this month

tell your friend to read a book sometimes, there's a reason why they exist and it's not to sell more ads unlike some other media ...

Europeans are so far ahead the US in mobile payments its not even funny.
Talking to a developer about self-driving cars is a good litmus test of sincerity and/or competence.

Utterly unbelievable that Tesla is still selling "Full self driving" cars to customers.

Re:DJ Turntables: Buying Guide by Vekked (2016) on Friday October 28, 2022 @05:18AM (#33369279)
What you're looking for is a beginner DJ controller, it has a mixer and sound card built into it in one small package.

As the other poster said, I bought myself a Native Instuments S2 and couldn't be happier for the price, minimalist but with a great build quality and you get the Traktor Pro 3 software included in the price.
