Re:RISC-V is currently slow compared to modern CPUs on Wednesday October 23, 2024 @11:10AM (#41925824)
Absolutely fair point. I'm only pointing out the fact it hasn't been proved to be a limitation of the architecture yet.

Can't write off the first car only able to go 15km/h because your horse is able to do 40km/h.

> RISC-V is 25x slower than a top of the line Apple M-series chip

I don't think anyone has put the kind of money into a RISC-V processor that Apple has in order to develop the 3nm M4.

I was going to say it isn't an apples to apples comparison but I will restrain myself.

Life changing isn't it? Coupled with a holder attached to the bed I feel like I read twice as fast when I'm using it rather than holding the kindle, side effect being that I look like the people in WALL-E.

I understand that people would prefer if it were built into the device but in all honesty it isn't really that much of an inconvenience when you're already only using it while it's stationary.

This is wonderful! There's so many aspects of a house that it's virtually guaranteed to have an apt analogy for any situation.

I'll be keeping this on file, thank you.

I somehow keep ending up working at places where 90% of the employees grew up with staff in the house. Dozens of people with wikipedia pages about their families.

I've been here for 5 years and am almost thirty years old. I still have people regularly asking me where I went to secondary school. They are obsessed with class.
They always try to be vague when the truth is difficult to defend.

I would have loved to pay monthly for IRC Nitro™ back in the day to use… uh, forbidden ascii art?
Re:Unlock Articles with Paywallskip on Monday September 02, 2024 @07:11AM (#41424387)
Not a fan of paywalls, but the framing of the pricing comparison is just so funny to me.

Like the guy who comes into the pub offering to sell dubiously acquired meat for a bargain price.

You have to either be entirely detached from reality or deliberately cruel to make statements like this alongside $20,000pa.

Willing to bet the latter given Per Se was charging 5% of that salary for a single dinner.

And as we all know, it is impossible to imply tone in written text.
Re:A Symbol for the Fediverse ⁂ on Friday August 23, 2024 @07:02AM (#41327920)
Honestly explicit sarcasm indication should just die out entirely. Might as well be writing it longhand as "Just in case you missed it, this is a joke haha." every time you tell a joke.
Re:A Symbol for the Fediverse ⁂ on Friday August 23, 2024 @06:58AM (#41327900)
Not sure why Fediverse needs a symbol but it looks great.
Wages in America must be truly incredible for this to seem normal. I know so many full time developers on a tenth of that.
Weird how this line is only ever wheeled out in relation to hate speech apologism.

Re:Volkswagen invests up to $5B in Rivian on Wednesday June 26, 2024 @07:50AM (#40798871)
The R3 is definitely going to be the thing that gets them into Europe. It looks fantastic and actually fits on our roads.
Either I'm a psychic or we're all terribly predictable
Factorio runs perfectly and I can't see why anyone would need a second game.
Wow thanks never thought of that, you've solved all my problems. Looked down the road and saw that all the veg produced in Spain has moved to the City of London.
I can't cope with it anymore. I work in grocery and we're seeing weeks long waits for containers and shipping dates, coupled with items arriving with the minimum allowed life, leaves us with very short turnaround frames. It's no wonder people can't keep the shelves stocked. Getting out of SC as soon as I possibly can.

I'll have aged out before they ever manage this. Been on the to-do list for years.
Re:Apple Discontinuing Apple Pay Later on Tuesday June 18, 2024 @06:20AM (#40715978)
Am I incorrect in thinking Apple Pay Later only works with the Apple Card? Or was it available for all cards as long as you used Apple Pay to check out?

If that were the case I can see this being like the third party BNPL schemes such as Klarna sure. Otherwise it’s just semantics of where the option lives.

Meanwhile Amex have just launched this exact model in the UK called "Plan It", though it costs a fixed fee per month of the loan.
Re:Caniemail.com (like caniuse but for email content) on Tuesday May 07, 2024 @02:50AM (#40283050)
Flashbacks to making a nice email template for a company only to find out their entire client list used outlook from a decade earlier and could just about render plaintext. There was no point in me even showing up.
This also grinds my gears. Amazing how many people can see a story about someone having a sandwich for lunch and thinking "Um actually I didn't have a sandwich for lunch and can't possibly imagine someone having experiences different to my own so you need to edit this."
Re:Robinhood's new, attractive and expensive credit card on Sunday March 31, 2024 @01:11PM (#39885999)
The vast majority of Amex's cards are free. You need to get to the top two or three cards to be spending that much.
Re:My Cofounder was diagnosed with cancer, what should I do? on Thursday March 28, 2024 @05:27AM (#39849128)
If you're looking for someone to tell you it's justified to deny them sick leave, fire them, and then use that as a excuse to steal the company out from under them then best of luck with the ongoing sale of your grandmother.

As a child I once ate an entire jar of the German stuff that comes in a little stein in a couple of days just to have the tiny glass. It was like the toy in a cereal box except for odd children.
I'm just annoyed the price of BA flights has dramatically increased since people started paying attention to the planes being flown by each airline. Please go back to your death traps!
