Isn't this done so they can defuse Anthropic's excuse for regulatory capture?
They'll go after those too. Give it a minute.

1. For all normal countries, if they get caught, there's consequences. For Israel there's no consequences even if they get caught.

2. Israel is embedded in US politics. So US government is allowed to purchase this from Israeli contractors but I doubt they would be allowed to purchase sensitive stuff like from a neutral country like UAE.

So, the US is the customer and also protects Israel so Israel has built an entire industry around it.

One thing they should've learned from Nvidia is that it's really worth it for them to invest making their devices function as broadly as possible. Crypto and AI waves both benefited Nvidia much more than AMD partly due to their devices being more universally usable.

That "partly" was worth hundreds of billions of dollars but AMD were cheap/shortsighted enough to hire a few dedicated engineers.

It was called JCPOA but Israel didn't like it because it would've meant peace for the region. War _is_ the point for Israel at this point.

KDE Free Qt Foundation predates the whole Nokia debacle and smartphones by more than a decade.

Maybe it will, but having a performance comparison will be very interesting nontheless.

I seriously miss Basket.

https://basket-notepads.github.io/

Anything similar for Mac?

I'd attribute it to 2008 financial collapse, and in general, the pressure put on the middle class that began a decade earlier.

And I genuinely believe blaming things on social media and news is just a diversion so we wouldn't look at the main issue.

Nuclear threat is incredibly real. Please call your congressmen.
Who cares about US vs. China. We're talking about jobs here and economy.
Re:New accounts on HN 10x more likely to use EM-dashes on Wednesday February 25, 2026 @01:47PM (#47155923)
dang, you should consider this an existential threat to hn.

I hate myself for saying this, but HN should consider closing new registrations for a while until we figure out what to do with this.

Re:An Update on Heroku on Friday February 06, 2026 @12:05PM (#46915338)
We had an enterprise account on Heroku. We invested a little in Dokku and moved to self host it as of a few months ago.

We now have a kubernetes (k3s) backed Dokku self hosted on Hetzner. Significantly cheaper but pretty robust.

Just saying that it's not literally, but you are right, most people wouldn't be interested in self hosting.

It's not really a simple CLI tool though it's really interactive.
Re:In Tehran on Wednesday February 04, 2026 @01:21PM (#46889502)
They are not. It's the eastern imperialists that are causing this. And if it's a choice between eastern imperialists (China and Russia) and western ones, it seems that Iranian people by far prefer the western ones.

For three main reasons.

1. Culturally Iranians are way more aligned with west.

2. Western imperialism results in more democracy. Not 100%, but not this bad.

3. Economically countries under west's influence do much better. Iran is extremely poor right now.

If it was about GDP it'd have "some" moral defense: That this leads to overall wealth growth of the population.

But it's not about GDP. It's about shareholder value which is absolutely not representative of the whole population.

Extreme greed is now part of US social contract, top to bottom, and has driven the whole society to madness sadly.

Re:Code Is Clay on Saturday January 10, 2026 @06:04PM (#46570858)
It's funny how it went from "everything needs to be strongly typed" and "even C++ isn't enough we need Rust for everything" to this...

A good chunk of our profession is just hype-followers at this point.

It was even taught in all schools in Iran!
I dont think people realize how important this is.

If one of the vendors manages to get their protocol to become the target platform (eg oai and app sdk), that is essentially their vendor lock in to become the next iOS/Android.

Private API’s or EEE strategies are gonna be something to keep an eye for and i wish regulators would step in to prevent them before its too late.

Re:What if you don't need MCP at all? on Sunday November 16, 2025 @03:40PM (#45948210)
Oh you're misunderstanding MCP here.

MCP was created so llm companies can have a plugin system. So instead of them being the API provider, they can become the platform that we build apps/plugins for, and they become the user interface to end consumers.

What was their vision for AI to begin with?

I totally understand what OpenAI and Google are trying to do with AI but I never understood Meta's angle.

What's Meta's AI product?

No but upgrading KDE is free. It also doesn't force new hardware requirements.
Re:Apps SDK on Monday October 06, 2025 @03:05PM (#45495038)
I see a lot of negative comments here but to me, it was obvious this is where OAI should land.

They want to be the platform in which you tell what you want, and OAI does it for you. It's gonna connect to your inbox, calendar, payment methods, and you'll just ask it to do something and it will, using those apps.

This means OAI won't need ads. Just rev share.

Re: on Sunday September 14, 2025 @02:28PM (#45242111)
As a Jew I cannot be more ashamed.

The sad part is that these "Israel Supporters" don't realize they've destroyed Israel in the process.

For 2 reasons:

1. Most young Americans, in both parties, are sickened by this. Next generations of Americans are not gonna support Israel anymore and the US support for Israel is the only security Israel has. In 20 years Israel will be left alone between all the countries that they once had a chance to make peace with, but decided to wage war against.

2. Israel is gonna deteriorate and become another authoritarian regime like the rest of of the Middle East. The ultra orthodox population grows and it's simply not gonna be a democratic state anymore.

So yes, go ahead, commit a genocide/ethnic cleansing (whatever you name it) in the name of a country that you destroyed in the process.

I wish I wasn't their excuse for all this.

People on our circles are obsessed with model performance. OpenAI's lead is not there and hasn't been there for some time.

They do, however, have a major lead in terms of consumer adoption. To normal people who use llm's, ChatGPT is _the_ model.

This gives them a lot of opportunities. I don't know what's taking them so long to launch their own _real_ app store, but that's the game they are ahead of everyone else because of the consumer adoption.

Why do you even follow? Just stick to one that works well for you?
Well, that's why REST api's exist. You don't expose your database to your clients. You put a layer like REST to help with authorization.

But everyone needs to have an MCP server now. So Supabase implements one, without that proper authorization layer which knows the business logic, and voila. It's exposed.

Code _is_ the security layer that sits between database and different systems.

They did. I skipped the fine but the real fine was insurance premium going up.
I was fined for using a phone a while back. Fine aside it had a very bad impact on my insurance prices.
