While Android is technically an acquisition, it was an unreleased prototype when they bought it.
It's safe to say Google brought Android to the level it is now.
The way it worked is that the French government forced all major ISP to block some sites.
But using a third party DNS circumvents the block, so they went after them too.
Web browsers however (unless they include a VPN or 3rd party DNS) don't allow you to access sites blocked by your ISP. Same goes with ethernet and wifi cards.
I'm not saying I agree with it but that's the logic.
They're removing all presence they have in France, their servers mostly.
They want to be out of reach of French courts basically.
Try suggesting that "generative AI might be useful sometimes", and they'll come down to you for supporting the technology of the devil.
In France it's not about being a member of a professional body, but you need to have an engineer degree to be called an engineer.
It's a master's degree but not all masters are engineer degrees. It's from the "Grandes Ecoles".
And yes, most software engineers in France have an engineer degree.
There is tech, but oil as well.
It's both tech and shale oil that saved the US from the decline predicted at the end of last century.
You have to look at purchasing power parity.
A bigger salary is no good if you have nothing left after paying housing, groceries, bills, education, healthcare...
I don't think you realize the situation of the US middle class.
High education costs. High healthcare costs. One serious disease or accident can bankrupt you. Buying a house usually means a 30 years loans at 7% so after 10 years you still have 85% of capital left to pay off.
Salaries are higher but everything is more expensive, so in purchasing power parity it's basically the same.
and 5% of the population so still not too bad
Well electrical work itself is pretty easy, just connect wires. You need some knowledge to know what do to and do it safely, but there isn't that much to do.
Most of the work is opening walls, closing them, running cables, etc.
That's the thing, in US it's really hard to find a middle ground.
It's either healthy organic vegan, or junk.
tmux. Terminal tabs. Relying on your window manager to handle your multiple terminals.
There are so many ways to visually manage your agents sessions with a terminal app.
You don't have to extrapolate, even if practices stop evolving they have already radically changed.
Yes, I switched from OpenCode to Pi and never looked back.
What's great with Pi is that it's very easy to extend, because it knows its own doc. So you tell it "implement a plugin that does this" and it does it directly in its own folder.
That means I have a plan mode that works exactly the way I want, I have a hook that cleans up added comments after each change, I can ask "pull this github PR and assess the comments", etc.
There is a pi plugin to use agy directly from it.
The tests are there to confirm with statistics that (1) it works and (2) side effects are not too bad or too frequent.
That doesn't mean we understand why the medication works.
This is also how most CEO live.
They ask their employees to build stuff, and have no understanding whatsoever of how any of it works.
Also remember the days of the first color printers.
People were so proud to show off their colors that every single word was in a different color.
Because there is a big anti-AI movement and some people will think you're destroying the planet and putting people out of a job if you make one prompt to a chatbot.
The biggest problem that I have with most AI posters is that they are too busy, you have to look for information instead of seeing it popping right away.
Amateurs posters of before AI didn't have this problem. White background, the important info in big letters, maybe one clipart or to. So I'm not talking about how pro artists could make a better job, but even the small local non-profit used to produce better posters. Not in the sense of "better looking", but in the sense that they were more readable.
At least the examples of this blog are more readable than what we usually see.
And if it's that's true... What reason is there for the company's clients to keep sending money?
Clients will cut the middle man and run the LLM themselves.
Apparently it's cyclic, every 10 years a lot of cars reach 10 years, the market is flooded with COE and it gets cheaper.
In France many divorces are uncontested, but you're still require to use a lawyer (the same for both spouses).
On the other hand most couples with kids are not married, so the separation doesn't require a lawyer...
If you truly think LLM are not useful tools for programming, you haven't tried the right tools.
I'm always worried about the "Midas effect" with something like that. Having to be careful not to trigger actions you don't want to.
The same goes with most "human" discovery: they happen because existing knowledge have reach a point where that specific discovery is just one more stone to the edifice.
That's why in research, it's common for separate teams to reach similar conclusions at the same time or race to a result that's finally in reach.
The good old "standing on the shoulders of giants" saying.
I keep reading about AI killing all humans but I have yet to see a practical scenario where that happens. Somehow everyone is scared of that but nobody can explain exactly how that would happen?
It's easier to generate a static site using a WP hidden behind a VPN than building a mini cms on top of a static site.
I still have to read a compelling argument on how AI will "extinct" humanity.
