That is the unfortunate reality of how most of civilized society works. E.g. sensational crimes get more attention from law enforcement. Laws are applied according to societies whim. I think the natural conclusion of the “what about X” line of argument would lead to the paralysis of the legal system.
Re:The technical interview is an ego trip on Saturday September 12, 2020 @01:04PM (#24453809)
People assume interviews are to prove technical competence. Answering with “Google it” is more of a test of someone’s humour. While in practice it might be true that you’d Google it, most people have been conditioned by the education system to answer with something more substantive and demonstrative of their technical thinking ability.

I don’t know who I am and what I want. I’m in my 30s and engaged because my SO couldn’t accept the status quo. I recently dropped out of my PhD after 3 years or floundering to take a job. I worry every day about the decisions I’ve made and I’m afraid of regret. I feel like a mess. I can’t articulate my thoughts but I know I have an aptitude for programming and math, though I constantly second guess my solutions and revise them all the time leading others to doubt me. I don’t believe in anything or anyone. I can shoot ideas down like nobodies business but have no vision myself. Sometimes I wonder if how I view myself matches up at all with how others view me. I fantasize about my own death. I can’t commit. Feeling sorry for myself I guess, but feels good to write it out
I get what you’re saying. But I don’t think such a philosophical approach will move the discussion forward. I don’t think many value one belief (freedom to spend) absolutely over the other (freedom from financial ruin). Most are willing to compromise and can be swayed by appealing to other things they might value, like saving lives.
This is fantastic advice.
