There are a lot of things you don't have to worry about in China because someone else makes the decision for you. Sure you want to strive for that?

I feel sorry that democracies are failing their citizenry like this.

Life has a meaning for the person living it.
WTF, I find it hard to believe that during a sexual assault, the perpetrator doesn't know what they are doing. WTF is this?
Do you mean it should be guilty unless proven otherwise?

Absolutely not, I am not an amateur. Forget about the codebase, I am sure you won't claim that the dev tooling for Java is lighter than golang.

For me the greatest thing about KDE is that once you have it, you don't miss anything from any other DE or OS. It has everything! I find gnome and the new gtk4 apps definitely more beautiful but I end up running KDE always.

I am not sure I understand your point. It's a meaningful comparison based on my situation. But even if it isn't, what are you arguing for? I change my use case rather than the tool/lang? Sorry if I misunderstood.

One particular test was running for 20 minutes, doing repetitive calculations, hopefully enough to get jitted. It finishes much much faster now. I could have profiled to check what was going on but the test was simple and the dev tooling and the ram usage was a major concern for me. Also gradle upgrades were painful.

Java tooling taking up a lot of ram was a major motivation for me. I have done a lot of Scala as well. I don't think either Java or Scala in the real world beat go on performance for most cases. I don't doubt that in some cases jvm can do better but at least before Valhalla delivers all the promises, in real world, I am doubtful.

I have been a Java/Scala user almost for the majority of my career. I doubt I would pick jvm over golang going forward though. Also not having to deal with OOP is a plus.

I ported a moderate sized java project to golang. Test suite runs order of magnitude faster now. There isn't much change in terms of the architecture. Pretty much the same algos and data structures. The whole dev tooling runs on a 16 gb mac without swapping now. I used vs code for both

That's not how I read it at all. Why do you think the latter group likes free stuff made for them?
I keep wondering about this western worldview where they keep equating a militant failed state with the largest democracy in the world. I can't fathom why they do it.
This is the most reddit thread I have seen on HN ever.

That would imply that the complainer has nothing useful to add to the discussion, whereas just saying that the website is probably ai generated and off putting to them is valuable info about the project.
Re:Linux 7.3 improves performance when running out of vRAM on Tuesday August 18, 2026 @10:04AM (#49345811)
KDE has absolutely no issues with it.

Gnome >= 47 is fine, you will need to do:

`gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-framebuffer', 'xwayland-native-scaling']" ` That stops being necessary as some point around 49/50 I think.

You are in luck then, use jaspr.

So if somebody tried to solve the brainteaser with an impossibly high likelihood of being completely wrong. You get the signal that their values match yours, they are open minded and that they are good at writing great programs?
Sure buddy, they gave it up because it was not worth it.
If you don't like rust for whatever reason, use any other memory safe language. If you need more convincing that bugs and vulns are dropping let and right from decades old battle tested software, ask anyone with access to frontier ai sec models.
Re:Ask HN: MacBook vs. Dedicated GPU for LLM on Saturday June 27, 2026 @01:46AM (#48695520)
How are you running these together, splitting the model somehow or did you mean different models on any one card at a time?

Try dioxus, it has live reload but it's a work in progress.
Re:Ten years of ClickHouse in open source on Friday June 19, 2026 @10:21AM (#48598958)
Not to mention ACID and CAP and all that. I use clickhouse AND postgres. Clickhouse is not a replacement for postgres at all.
What's going on in this thread? Why so many replies are flagged/dead!!

Re:Leaving Mozilla on Saturday June 13, 2026 @11:48PM (#48524012)
Can't remember now it was at least 10-13 years ago.
Re:Leaving Mozilla on Saturday June 13, 2026 @06:36AM (#48515761)
That is not ambitious enough.
Re:Leaving Mozilla on Saturday June 13, 2026 @06:07AM (#48515551)
It was a brilliant idea and some day someone will repeat it to make a fuckton of money.
Re:Leaving Mozilla on Saturday June 13, 2026 @06:06AM (#48515540)
I used Firefox and made sure everybody in my circle family and social used it. I had donated 5$ to Mozilla when I was making 360$ per month. I believed in mozilla, I was naive. Soon after I learned the money didn't go to Firefox. They soon after launched a political campaign in my country. I realized this and every other fancy they had, was where my money was going. Stopped using it and stopped caring a long while back. Can't wait for Servo/Ladybird to replace it.

> The other way to get rich is to own things. If you own a factory or real estate or bonds you get to charge other people and make a profit even though you are expending no effort. And in this case there is no limit on your profit, because you can use your profit to buy more capital and make more profit from that.

Risk : Reward, that's obvious, isn't it? I have known many relatives who bankrupted themselves trying to "own" stuff. I also know some who succeeded and are rich. Starting a business is very hard, try it.

I would say that since more and more of the world wants/needs sovereignty in this space, more and more options would come up in the next 5 years. They will probably not be the cutting edge we have now but personal computing will not die. It will just get a (healthy) reset.
Both fail hard for so many things. If you need any sort of hardware acceleration, just use an rpm/deb.
