I don't think anybody is arguing that LLMs do math better than a traditional processor
Shinto is a big one

This is something for educators to deal with, not a 50+ senior IC, but yes your point is extremely important.

oh god please don't create more demand for GPUs
People respond differently to different things. One bully who gets punched back will stop, while another will escalate. Trying to fix bullying requires a solution tailored to each individual bully.

Time for some heat pump subsidies I guess! Haha
Re:UK Officials could face US entry ban over Twitter policy on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @08:26AM (#46615812)
That does not make the distinction between pipeline gas and LNG, but I do not know if that is a distinction worth making
Re:UK Officials could face US entry ban over Twitter policy on Wednesday January 14, 2026 @08:25AM (#46615786)
Pipeline-based providers are still a significantly greater percentage of the UK's overall gas consumption

Could the UK not rebalance its imports from LNG to more pipeline-based gas? It seems like the UK has managed to cut out Russian LNG imports completely already.

It is everywhere in Japan
the BNA is even more complex today after some additional changes

as a British person living abroad who gave birth to a child abroad, it took me a lot of time and mental energy to determine

- what type of British nationality I am (yes, really)

- how that affects my child as she was born abroad

- how that affects any children she has in the future

varying circumstance around birth of all the people listed above change whether they are British citizens automatically, by application or simply not eligible at all

the legislation feels very messy to me

How can you determine a conflict of interest if you don’t know what he’s been appointed to do?
Re:Oncall shift should be Tuesday to Tuesday on Saturday November 23, 2024 @06:56AM (#42220464)
No pay for being on call by itself is still poor, particularly when it comes to swapping rotations between team members to provide flexibility amongst each other.

You’re making yourself available 24/7. That has a non trivial lifestyle impact which I’ve always thought deserves more than is typically rewarded.

Re:The English Paradox: Four Decades of Life and Language in Japan on Wednesday November 06, 2024 @11:23PM (#42073390)
Bilingual in Japan, also studying Mandarin.

Proficient English is just a “plus-alpha”, as they say.

You don’t need it, but it might open up a few more doors.

Then there’s certain topics, like science/medicine where English to some extent is absolutely necessary to keep up with research. Even then, I find some of these people still struggle with speaking and listening, but reading and writing can be pretty solid.

I truly cannot tell if this is sarcasm.

I actually swapped over from 1P to Bitwarden because the experience on Mac just got worse and worse over time, bloated and buggy.

Bitwarden isn't rapid, but at the time it was, to my surprise, a better experience than 1P, at least on MacOS.

Hosting providers get an obscene amount of fraudulent sign-up attempts, including attempts where they try to assume the identity of the person they have acquired the passport scan/photo of.

I don't like it, but it's very understandable.

If it's between the dynamic island and high quality sensors, I will happily accept them keeping a notch. It makes sense they'd try to make it a selling point, as it is somewhat unique to iPhone in how they've really leaned into making the most of it.

What do you think is being evaluated on each iteration of a loop?
Re:Why is DNS still hard to learn? on Saturday July 29, 2023 @03:01AM (#36917654)
Simple is not always easy. Too simple can be difficult to grasp and sometimes adding a little complexity can actually make something more intuitive and easier.

DNS is simple, but it is not necessarily easy to understand.

Re:Managers, Stop Distracting Your Employees on Sunday April 02, 2023 @11:14PM (#35418127)
That not holding meetings without an agenda is something that apparently needs to actually be said is cause for despair.
I used Gandi's email service as just an SMTP service to send notifications from various scripts and apps.

Any alternatives I can use? Ideally actual SMTP and not some API, some apps I use only support the SMTP protocol.

Re:Post-processing is ruining iPhone photos on Saturday January 07, 2023 @06:32PM (#34294214)
I always prefer shooting in highest bitrate and/or lossless, but I'd love to have the option to easily compress the files in-place later in Photos, without having to do some weird export and re-import dance.
Re:Jsonhero.io: Enhanced JSON structure visualization on Tuesday November 29, 2022 @11:32AM (#33789658)
You’re probably thinking of the tool made by GCHQ, CyberChef

https://gchq.github.io/CyberChef/

Re:Jsonhero.io: Enhanced JSON structure visualization on Tuesday November 29, 2022 @12:43AM (#33784092)
My number one requirement for a tool like this is that the JSON content never leaves the machine it's on.

I can only imagine the kind of personal information or proprietary internal data that has been unwittingly transmitted due to tools like this.

If my objective was to gain the secrets of various worldwide entities, one of the first things I would do is set up seemingly innocent Pastebins, JSON checkers, online file format convertors and permanently retain all submitted data.

Re:SSHGuard on Sunday November 27, 2022 @02:19AM (#33761124)
For keys used in authentication, I feel like rotation largely just protects against keys being leaked. If you can enforce keys to exist only on a secure element then to me I feel like rotation is no longer needed in this particular scenario. With the exception of the key strength no longer being enough or something similar.

Perhaps I'm overlooking something?
