I believe my text-only interactions with LLM cost him a lot more energy then average Joe ones. What about video generators it is sad when I see a youtube video with a really expensive generated picture because I feel somewhat guilty not to look at footage and listen to only words. A lot of water boiled for nothing.
But the truth is that a parchment paper is impossible without PFAS.

Everyone except of video generators.

As capitalists tell, if the climate agenda is correct than we all are going to die soon. But it seems not plausible, nobody is going to die any soon. That proofs the climate agenda is wrong.

So, companies will hire juniors again, because no AI will have your culture.
Re:What makes drone/missile interceptors expensive? on Sunday November 01, 2026 @02:15PM (#50328706)
Speed.

Probability of success (knowing when to kaboom).

Interceptor should be faster than the goal to have guaranteed interception and it has to have a little time to reaction (lag) to intercept it at least in best case for interceptor.

Distant detonator is also not an easy technology. BTW how many of Patriot shots are required to intercept one goal? Probably it is so because they tend to kaboom in a wrong time.

Also what is very expensive the component which nobody has needed 3 years ago at all, and now everyone needs this. There were no waiting drones at the time which can poke for days then get you from an unexpected bush. Where is the expence in countering that situation, maybe you need a kevlar umbrella? A Spiderman's net? A patroling drone over your head like in Alien Shooter?

Re:Slopstructions on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:53PM (#50328485)
that was always like this, long before the slop. sometimes the primary goal is to see you obeying and all other goals of your contragent become temporaly secondary.
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (November 2026) on Sunday November 01, 2026 @01:51PM (#50328458)
How to make data storage on multiple storage devices unbreakable and consistent? The former means for me that back-ups should be automatical and serverless, the latter means that no matter how much of that HDD/SDD devices are connected, I want always to know all metadata of all files I have. I want this software under GPLv3 if to consider GPL still protects me from anything because permissive licenses are no better than WTFPL by any single case.

My first idea is to require the user to have more than one disk for the system needs and the system should know all of the rest data devices user owns. My second idea is to treat different files as having different priority which impose multiple copies. My third idea is to make the software accessible, and the last idea is to make encrypting of all the devices easy and with no ties to any commertial entities. I would like to have a discussion about how to not lose anything digital.

TL/DR: We Have Got It Because of PFAS
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:28AM (#50300779)
Your answer does not answer anything. The discussion is about whether or not to have the trusted third-party. Pro-ttp said that ttp protects from criminals. Anti-ttp said that ttp can make your own money dissappear because ttp is bending the rules. You said nonsence, your examples are not showing any rules or contracts about digital property which are being bent. Why any bitcoin criticism from anyone is always so weak?

What a clever implementation of reducing climate theses to emotions. Like there are no any theses except of:

> interested (58%), sad (44%), disgusted (44%), afraid (39%), anxious (39%), angry (39%), hopeful (38%), outraged (36%), hopeless (34%), or depressed (28%).

> I want the freedom to install the OS I want on my phone.

Probably your problem is that you have no phones, only someone's thin clients.

All of this is true. But all of this except of "transport" is doable on a laptop. Reading long articles on smartphones is impossible at all because they tend to show the reader dozens of pesky notifications. Kaios is enough modern for me and shows no pesky stuff. For example i have no other devices while doing bikepacking and this device can both navigate and entertain me. Absence of messaging apps is the least of my problems because i can phone, read websites and write emails.
some cat, maybe neighbour's. 80% of mine were produced by domestic animals.

Re:Ask HN: Why can't Ukraine use LoRA instead of Starshield? on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @12:52AM (#50161491)
Why cant Ukraine use toy two-way radios, toy guns and paper planes?
Re:I Built a Drone with Only One Motor [video] on Monday October 19, 2026 @04:31PM (#50157668)
maybe new breakthroughs for the darpa project. kamikazes drones do not need so advanced prop tbh it is against the idea of being cheap.

Same as how do we know our brains can be trusted. If there are no external voices (scitzophrenia or phoning home respectfully) then the computing device is ours. Hardware bugs are possible but with proven absence of help from the vendor at least the bugs are not malfunctional.
Re:Show HN: How Random Are You? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @11:31AM (#50089240)
like whether a number is prime should be enough, but for making it even more random I would try inverting the result of each second number.
Re:Why is every rationalist blog post way too long? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:51AM (#50086205)
Nothing requires you to abandon skimming. But imagine some Christian person which is going to become an atheist. If the rationalist resource requires the reader to have in his mind all the atheist memes, he will never switch and probably report some errors. If you are a bald reader then have a bit of respect who might read these things his first time. Rationalist articles should be made for stupids, like a "technology connections" yt channel. If you are not stupid, you might not need to read a rationalist's stuff any more to save your time for more advanced topics.

Do not tell anyone I still have not achieved C1. And sorry for not using a spellchecker, the war condition and scattered blackouts is why I am busy with trolling on the only resource on the Internets which provides a decent experience via edge (2.5G).

If he would follow his own advice he just put the Pascal's quote, maybe in slightly different words. What is this article if not a rationalist blog post way too long for the scope of thoughts has been put within?

Re:Why is every rationalist blog post way too long? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @04:26AM (#50084225)
My controversial thesis was about author's poor reading skill. The dilemma of the rationalist writer is about whether be skipped by wizards or be understandable by maglesses.

You can take the truthest truth ever like "god does not exist". This statement is rationalist and true and short so the author is supposed to cry with a tears of happiness. But making a wisard to behave like this requires something more thorough to be sent. Maybe the author's post also has a chance to become a rationalist if it would be a little bit... longer?

Re:Why is every rationalist blog post way too long? on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @02:31AM (#50083251)
Rationalism is for people who have the reading skill. If someone prefers short videos, it means that the doors of rationalism is closed for him.
