Norway has a wealth tax (1.1% nominal, but there are tricks), but we also have almost as bad wealth inequality as the US (by Gini). Wealthy people are furious to the point of fleeing the country because it really is the one tax they can’t (entirely) escape. But it certainly doesn’t “fix” wealth inequality.
The racism participants were subjected to was the worst part for me (though I understand teams were treated very well by the local population). Hydration breaks. Incessant celebrity spotting. So many small details reminding you that US capitalism might already have succeeded in ruining the game you love. Or that they see the success of the tournament as a signal to ramp up the attacks on European club football (pushing for a franchise model).
I feel like how I imagine golfers felt once LIV golf was announced.
I interpreted the comment as “give this guy some money and he will figure it out”. You have some serious skill, this just wasn’t the right idea.
A japanese startup is working on a (surprisingly small) battery energy "tanker":

I think there are some startups working on cargo train "tankers" in the US too.
An idea I had after seeing the tanker concept was to have the battery carrier also serve as a generator via wind power. If its a huge ship I suppose you could just stick a turbine on it and go where the wind is blowing. I think a more fun concept is generating power off of a smaller scale cat- or trimaran generating both propulsion and power by sailing conventionally.
Didn’t the feds just get 10% of the company?
That is correct. The historical price for consumers is by my guesstimate $0.03-0.05 USD, now it’s at least double. Grid fees come on top of that.
The anger is completely out of proportion, IMO, as the net effect is probably very positive. 1. Hydro is typically state owned and taxed at a very high rate 2. 50% of the price difference between markets is pocketed by the public grid operator (reducing grid fees) 3. We also import power when needed and typically at a net profit.
Thanks!
It would be interesting to see how this looks on a map.
Electricity exports (/prices) is a MASSIVE controversy in Norwegian politics, so it would be pretty funny if Norwegian power is replacing the curtailed wind power.
I think the rigidity of land ownership will be put to the test because of climate change.
They will vote with the board
Turned out it was a Starship
> Or as Rusty Foster, author of the widely read media blog Today in Tabs, puts it: “Our economy might just be three AI data centers in a trench coat.”
lol
I saw someone comment that US GDP is shrinking if you exclude AI cap ex.
If this could save material used for construction, that would be great!
Maybe (touring) skis could be a good application for this? Would be fun if somebody tried it.
It remains to be seen to what extent this restores confidence.
This is a hit to Russian finances too.
Where I live, dental health is good and we don’t have fluorides in the water (we have free, mandatory dental care for children). We recently banned the use of fluorides to make our skis go fast because of the environmental impact.
Ukraine is fighting on behalf of all of Europe. The cost is the least of our worries. They are sending their children so I don’t have to send mine.
Blackmailing them for profit is despicable.
I grew up in a city with well-functioning public transportation. Biggest luxury I ever had. I miss it.
His response to Trumps napoleon tweet had 14 American flags.
Existing is irrelevant. NATO still exists too.
Aren’t they normally marked with “flagged” or something?
I drive a Model X. It is not well engineered.
The stock price is fucked if Musk leaves. The car business might survive, though.
I have no faith they can deliver on FSD/optimus/AI/cheap model. But with SEC kneecapped, I think the next rabbit out of Elon’s hat will be spectacular.
I didn’t say it was balanced. But look at what happened at SDNY last week. Several conservative prosecutors went against the DOJ.
You can never be sure, but I don’t think support for Trump’s regime is a left/right issue.
They don’t need to be left leaning.
I think it’s the other way around. US and China is applying a downward pressure on EU taxes and labor rights, and VAT balances it by treating everyone equally.
Keep in mind, a German built vehicle pays VAT on all the imported materials and components too. I imagine that is a significant share.
When most other countries apply VAT, I think the correct counter for the US is to do the same.
> The reason is because the imported good already paid taxes in the country it was produced in.
The German corporate tax rate is 29.9% vs 21% for the US (from googling). If Germany is anything like my nearby country there are also additional taxes which the US may or may not have (probably not).
Why doesn't the US just raise their own sales tax on both imports and domestic products?
