Re:Credit Where Credit Is Due on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @01:13PM (#50169552)
we have huge cultural issues with AI. AI can be useful but lets face it, its stealing content to make your prompt happen. it is wrong and im mostly talking the creative skills. Its neat what it can do, but its stealing art to make your prompt happen. I did a ai art thing to draw me something funny. I took that picture did a backwards search on the search engines and found similar art...

We have people claiming they are now artists, designers, etc...but really they just write prompts and get the output and try to sell it as theirs and boldy show up to art festivals, comic conventions, and pan it off like they created it. ridiculous.

The book space, authors....its bad and it sucks.

vibe coders...yeah its neat it can do what its doing, but there is a point when you just dont know what you are doing and trying to make a saas from it, you probably shouldn't.

i dont know im just sick of ai, ai being pushed on us, and ai users claiming they are x because of ai.

I do like ai as a helper in programming though, highlight some code and ask it is there better ways to optimize this or make it better. It also helps me do some of the redundant boiler plate code. But other then that...the abuse is wild and we have no laws in place to save our artists, creative folk.

I stick to one agent only and so i can see what its doing and decide if that code is worthy of a commit. I think I am in the same boat as you. I do write code as well, ai has sped up my coding.
this is really neat to see and that it has support for any modern system. I don't know pascal and could be a fun way to learn it.

Re:Cloudflare OS: an open platform for agents, apps, and work on Wednesday August 05, 2026 @11:03PM (#49191899)
im so sick of this stuff...
For sql, i found that it can recommend indexes that i didnt have in place. So for that part of it, its great. For optimizing code, it does an ok job, i guess.
game preservation is where this is great, well and 4k/hi res texture updates are pluses.
Re:Commodore Releases Flip Phone on Wednesday June 17, 2026 @12:23AM (#48565642)

wouldn't miles driven matter as well? i could drive under 5k miles a year but pay more because my car weighs more then my neighbor who drives 20k miles a year and lets say he has a lighter weight car...
Re:AI made coding more enjoyable on Friday February 20, 2026 @01:57PM (#47092243)
I like taking my code, especially sql stuff and asking AI a better way to write this and it actually is making me better at SQL because of sql methods i didnt know i could do before. I also like it in vscode to just quickly do the redundant things with auto-complete. now i have 15 years of programming behind me. If i had AI starting out, it would be very bad, I would lack understanding and be a incompetent programmer.
have you seen our school systems, k12. Its terrible and in dire need of a revamp. No child left behind really screwed kids over that want to learn. We cant just let kids pass because of feelings. Made schools better, have alternative paths for kids that are not excelling like some of their peers and find school hard to sit through.
Re:Fastmail Donates USD 10k to the Perl and Raku Foundation on Thursday February 05, 2026 @12:46PM (#46902334)
I work in Perl daily, in k12 as a sys admin / network engineer. I have it do all my automation, some internal web apps.

I started on Java, PHP, C++ and during my php years i discovered Perl because we needed it at work for systems. I just love it.

How about we stop companies from buying up properties to turn into airbnb/short term rentals, unless its a company that flips homes. Those we need.

Re:Upcoming Changes to Let's Encrypt Certificates on Wednesday December 17, 2025 @12:48PM (#46302897)
I've built something similar, not as cool as certkit, but using acme.sh i generate a wildcard and then internally my servers can pull the wildcard generates an md5 so i can track if it changes, put the certs where they need to be and restart the services they need that use it. Linux and Windows. It works.
I hope OP can get his account unlocked. This is a good reminder for everyone else, backup your cloud data to a local drive. But thats just one part, the social / email OAUTH side of things, phone accounts etc..., terrible situation. It should be easy enough to walk in a HQ / office and show credible ID and get your account unlocked.
I'll pay 5-20% more knowing my fellow americans made it

Re:Half My Life with Perl – By Randal Schwartz on Thursday December 19, 2024 @04:26PM (#42465841)
Use what you are comfortable with, I write Perl backends in Mojolicious, its great.
I need something like this but allows users to upload and send files. I don't want to make everyone admin.
dont call this a network routing solution.
Re:Lightweight Linux Distributions for Older PCs on Sunday November 12, 2023 @02:40PM (#38243430)

Re:Fcron Is the Best Cron on Saturday October 14, 2023 @10:54AM (#37880925)
i cant say much about cron, i use it for simple scripts on systems. When i have a lot of jobs that need to be scheduled routinely and i need alerts if they dont, i use jenkins, it works really well.
this is great, i think veterans should get the same treatment.
I think it is, just spec the one you can use, mine can't do card stock paper and so im a little bummed after finding that out. but have had it for years and the ink doesnt empty, its great.
Re:As I get older, I just don't care about new technology on Saturday August 26, 2023 @12:56PM (#37274536)
if you look at the sys admin side, im only excited about long old stable software, not the new stuff. but for technology as in ebikes and things that make my life better, im all for it. A good one was the wii, if i was in a nursing home or an old man and you showed me that thing i would be super excited. Ebikes allow old people to ride bikes again. So two sides of it, improving my life yes, managing systems - keep it stable for me please.
