Re:Tailscale SSH: Investigation and remediation update on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @05:16PM (#50265926)
Always is your responsibility even with tailscale. Now it is his responsibility without tailscale.
Anyone who can actually read the article want to post a summary?
Re:Namecheap just seized and disabled all my domains on Friday October 23, 2026 @01:31PM (#50212545)
I feel like you haven’t read how domain transfers work and are regulated. Cloudflare deciding to bill you for something else doesn’t affect your domain ownership or rights in any way. Should they ever make such a decision then you just transfer them to someone else.
Re:I never authorized an integration that scans my secrets on Friday October 16, 2026 @07:26PM (#50126134)
It was far beyond “more dismissive than they should have been”.
My phone always routes through my home internet connection via wireguard. So I’m using both my home DNS resolvers ad blocking as well as uBlock origin lite on my iPhone. I see no ads on the page and it scrolls fine.
Simply graphing netflow data would also have immediately pointed out an error.
Re:New gTLD Application for .lan on Thursday October 08, 2026 @12:43PM (#50008147)
The .lan domain has been on an rpz blocklist along with several other commonly used names in my networks for quite some time. I have no plans for that domain to ever successfully resolve regardless of whether or not it goes live.
Aren't there several orders of magnitude more trucking companies in the US than 16?
Re:Virus Stole a Human Gene and Won't Let Go of It on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @04:10PM (#49899637)
It is a shame that the free tool of choice is a site that put a DDOS attack in its captcha. So my options are not read the article or... not read the article. Nice.
I told a young coworker that the first popular web browser didn’t exist until I was 23 and that my life to that point was lovely. I didn’t get my first cell phone until years after that. The look of disbelief on their face just thinking about life without the web was sad.
Re:US threatens to ground Iranian airlines worldwide from Wednesday on Wednesday September 23, 2026 @12:04AM (#49811502)
Like when the world freaked out when Iran messed with international shipping?
Re:OpenAI begins rolling out GPT-6 Astra on Friday September 04, 2026 @10:49AM (#49565498)
ChatGPT writes some of my code but I have yet to ever use Codex. I ask in chat for it to write one function at a time with pretty heavy constraints. If I like it then I copy it into my codebase. I've been very satisfied with the results. Also haven't bothered worrying about tokens yet.
Re:2004 RuneScape fit a multiplayer RPG into 56k dial-up on Monday August 31, 2026 @11:54PM (#49517782)
I played EverQuest on the PS2 using a modem in 2003. Performance was fine.
Re:"No Disc, No Buy" Is Bigger Than Sony Expected on Sunday August 23, 2026 @12:41PM (#49410232)
They would make more progress if they separated “give consumers the rights they deserve” from “save obsolete media”.
Re:Why Sony Can't Bring Back Its Classic Walkman Models on Monday July 27, 2026 @10:46AM (#49070455)
I have five PS5 discs from around launch. Gifts. It is such a pain finding them and putting them in only to download a patch anyway. I’d sell them but I don’t want to perpetuate them as a thing so I’ll likely just throw them away.
Sony has the numbers. If most people weren’t already digital only then they wouldn’t have pulled the trigger. This is a vocal minority fighting an already lost fight.
As someone who hasn’t purchased physical media in over a decade I find the current tempest in a teapot rather comical. My home is cozy, not large. I don’t want physical media taking up any space. I don’t sell. I have great internet. It’s convenient.

When PSN is down I do something else. Just like when any other service is down. If this makes the PS6 cheaper then great.

The commit logs over the last few months have highlighted when an issue was found by a program. They usually name the submitter and the tool.
I already own Dark Souls 3 but were I to purchase it again I’d still pick PlayStation over eBay. Even at this price point. I get I’m not the average consumer but I have money and discs are annoying.
Re:Have You Restarted Your Computer This Week? on Wednesday July 01, 2026 @07:23AM (#48745022)
If you aren’t rebooting a Linux box 15 to 30 times per year then you aren’t applying kernel security updates. I view uptime fanatics as walking security problems and assign an appropriately low trust value for their actions on computers in general.
Re:The Radiation Exposure Lie on Tuesday June 30, 2026 @12:11PM (#48734781)
Agreed. My problem is that every dental association I’m aware of recommends dental X-rays on an individual, clinically justified basis and not a regular schedule. There are very few dental scenarios requiring yearly X-rays. They do them to get more money.
Re:GTA 6 will cost $80 on Wednesday June 24, 2026 @09:02PM (#48667486)
I don’t like Taylor Swift music. My not liking it has no bearing on her obvious talent in the industry. I get people not liking GTA. Ignoring their obvious talent is silly.
Re:Steam Machine on Tuesday June 23, 2026 @05:16PM (#48651584)
I have no interest in maintaining a gaming PC but want to play indie games that don’t launch on console. I also have money. I’ve been considering it.
Re:CT scans of BYD car parts on Wednesday June 03, 2026 @09:46AM (#48384035)
You leave your key in the car? And you don’t run the air conditioner when you are inside?
Re:Wi-Wi Is Wireless Time Sync at 1 Nanosecond on Wednesday May 20, 2026 @11:50AM (#48209750)
That is cool. I use a gps NTP server on my home network and live with sub-millisecond time sync. I’d go PTP but the equipment is a bit too expensive if the only value add is better time sync and I don’t need additional bandwidth. Prices coming down would be nice.
Re:OpenBSD 7.9 on Tuesday May 19, 2026 @10:46AM (#48194013)
The sole set of wired headphones in my house is for my OpenBSD laptop.
Re:OpenBSD 7.9 on Tuesday May 19, 2026 @10:42AM (#48193975)
I use it for home router, my laptop, several vms for various services, and on one vps I keep around should I need to quickly set something up. I keep a proxmox server for anything I can’t or won’t run on OpenBSD.
An article last year by him:

The writing style does seem a bit different.

Re:Building for the Future on Friday May 08, 2026 @12:17AM (#48058490)
Or it is just regular ageism.
It is amazing to me that people still answer their phone. If it isn’t my wife or kids then my phone has a silent ringtone. If your voice mail doesn’t successfully transcribe to text then I delete it without listening. I check my postal mail since mail fraud is the only thing still taken seriously by anyone.
