This is modifying the data side, LightScribe uses the reverse label side
So how does any of this matter for the proposed law on false advertisement? The court will still find the manufacturer to have distributed false advertisement, and will convict them. You might not call it truth but I don't see how that wouldn't work, especially since slander and similar laws already exist.
Re:Postgres 19 is late, and it's AI's fault on Monday November 02, 2026 @05:01AM (#50334907)
I don’t think North Korean hackers are attacking things from their North Korean IPs. They just buy a residential proxy. How would you prevent that?
Finding something to be true beyond a reasonable doubt is called finding truth for normal people. Otherwise, truth would only really apply to mathematical proofs, right? Is it true that the earth is roughly round? I don’t know for sure, I could be living in a simulation in an entirely different universe for all I know. But I would still say that the earth being a roughly round shape is true.
So if the court decides, based on the evidence provided by both parties, that B did in fact cheat and A isn’t convicted, that’s not a finding of fact for you? Does that not explain how a court could handle the proposed advertisement laws as well? It’s pretty much the same procedure as is already used for existing laws like my example.

Another question so I get what you’re saying: If I build a radio that emits outside allowed frequency ranges and the FCC bans me from selling it, who is determining the truth wether the radio does in fact emit outside the allowed range?

So let’s say A publicly says that B cheated on his wife and B sues for slander. A then states in front of the court that it’s true, which is an absolute defense. How do you think the court is going to decide that without deciding on the fact of the cheating?
Of course they do, it’s called question of fact. How else would a lawsuit be decided?
The question was how false marketing laws would be enforced if there’s no ministry of truth. This isn’t about how the law is made but how you then decide what is true or not. And my point is that this is already happening for existing laws.
If they are, you’re done for anyways. In that case you’ll be convicted for a lot of other stuff easily too.

I think they meant that retirees will move there to receive UBI. In that case, the bad thing is that suddenly the island has to pay for people that just went there to get free money.
Re:A tiny Pacific country rolls out universal basic income on Sunday November 01, 2026 @10:19AM (#50326474)
Doesn’t negative income tax without any qualifier imply that b is zero?
Re:A tiny Pacific country rolls out universal basic income on Sunday November 01, 2026 @10:12AM (#50326415)
I only skimmed the article but this doesn’t seem to say that loving itself creates value. This value is based on the expected earnings someone will still have in their life because it assumes the person will work. If you have a person that will live off UBI from the rest of their life, that’s not the case.
The federal ministry of truth is called the court and already exists and prosecutes people for stating false things. How is slander enforced for example?

I'm not sure but if negligence is punishable too for facilitation, it should stick, right? I think it's reasonable to expect that most buyers of exploits try to use them in illegal ways (or are feds acting like that to catch you).
Re:We Took over ChatGPT Accounts on Saturday October 31, 2026 @12:15PM (#50317477)
Facilitation of a crime is a crime too. So I think in the US and most western countries, yes. At least if it gets used illegally later.
Re:AO3 Down for Maintenance on Friday October 30, 2026 @07:04PM (#50311271)
Did anyone sign up to that with their real name or email?
Can’t you just immediately use them? The person getting caught will be some random person that took the bill, not the one bringing it into circulation.
Other question: why don’t they just forge currency? Surely with nation states resources you can create fake currency that easily fools most inspections? Is it that hard to launder cash? Or is the a red line and they are afraid of political measures?

There’s Superdollars but it doesn’t seem to be a really widespread problem so far, right?

So is this the most plausible way that binance was hacked so far?

Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Friday October 30, 2026 @02:59AM (#50300639)
If a compromised laptop was the entry point and that allowed someone to steal 6 billion dollars, it’s not really the engineers fault, right?
Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Thursday October 29, 2026 @06:49PM (#50297337)
You know that you can’t just judge an investment by past return, right? Would it be rational for a lotto player to tell you how great lotto is as an investment? Or people winning at the casino? Success doesn’t mean it was the rationally optimal decision.

> And decreasing, since BTC is dropping as we speak. Always a good idea to hedge a currency with the currency itsself

Depends on what you’re insuring, no? For theft, it actually makes senses, right? That way, you’re insuring a constant number of coins, no matter what the market is doing. If you’re insurance currency would tank during a bitcoin heist, you would lose the insurance effect.

Is the problem the number or the concept?

Your salary should also go up so the only thing affected is the cash you hold. Would it be better if the currency would be version-bumped every 10 years and rescaled to remove the inflation?

> Above modern bindings are activated also when the name of nano's executable (or a symlink to it) starts with the letter "e".

Maybe stupid question but do you then need to run nano through the symlink to get the new bindings or is the existence of a symlink enough? Wouldn’t nano have to check every directory for a symlink to itself to do that? There’s no way to get all symlinks for a specific file without checking the whole file system, right?

Re:Binance-hacker-1029 – $5.6B stolen from Binance on Thursday October 29, 2026 @06:37PM (#50297225)
I mean as someone managing a state. If there’s a guaranteed way to make money by holding your currency, you’re not really incentivized to invest your money in semi-risky endeavors. Why would I fund a company to make me some single digit returns if I can just hold the money? If the central bank would actively enforce a deflationary currency, nobody would invest anymore.

So 3% yearly Inflation? The target is 2% so not too bad. You don’t want your actual currency to gain value just by waiting.
Sure, but hasn’t that been the case for all the time since DST was introduced? The original comment to me sounded like DST is responsible for people being in a worse mental state now than a few years ago.
Well most people haven't existed for 60 years. Where I'm from, DST was introduced 110 years ago and people still complain. When will the worsening mental state reach equilibrium? Or is there maybe a chance that the worsening mental state isn't due to DST?
