Re:A few thoughts on Ticketmaster and Taylor Swift on Saturday November 19, 2022 @11:40AM (#33671674)
The ticket prices start high and are gradually reduced at a set rate until they reach a pre-defined minimum. The idea being that scaplers can't profit off of purchasing early since the official clearinghouse is lowering the price all the time.

People have to make a judgement call on the value of the tickets and purchase at an appropriate time.

The assignment to match returns undefined. The value of match is null.
The pennies were in payment of his final paycheck. The suit is in regard to unrelated wage theft from unpaid overtime and discrimination/retaliation (presumably for reporting the wage theft), as well as failure to maintain required records.

Re:Duke Nukem 3D Mirror Universe on Friday March 19, 2021 @02:06PM (#26516515)
To your point, I think that you could generate the duplicate geometry pretty easily but the issue would be making sure no overlapping sectors were visible at the same time, as that would cause glitches in the Build engine.

You might be able to subdivide the build engine's sectors into visleaves (borrowing terminology from Source) and clip all sectors in the mirror-verse according to the aperture + view-frustrum. To work correctly you'd need to do this every frame, probably an unthinkably huge task for the hardware at the time.

Unfortunately, they are being purchased by DISH network.

This way the driver can put mail in suburban mailboxes without leaving the seat (while driving on the right side of the road).

Yes, this is very much a "dad's in charge, mom said so" moment.
> they often backup everything in a central location like Whatsapp/Telegram/Signal which put everything in your Google account without any additional crypto layers

I don't know about the others but I don't think Signal does this. Signal offers the user the ability to backup their messages, and lets them password protect them, but the way you've written this implies Signal is uploading messages to Google of its own volition, unencrypted, which afaik is not the case.

Who decides that they are "different matters"?

Doesn't the magnetic data on the disks fade over that time scale?
Are you sure? I was under the impression that, for instance, diamond's value is mostly manufactured, but gold is actually useful for various electronic and chemical properties.

I agree it could take years to get right, which is why app developers should not pigeonhole themselves into immature stores.
Re:Ask HN: Can non degree-holder use the title Software Engineer? on Wednesday December 23, 2020 @02:59PM (#25521515)
Same with Architect. It's use in software is completely unregulated compared to Registered Architect (the equivalent to P.Eng).

I'm surprised there isn't some open source hardware for this to run on. Could be an interesting project.

I would like to get a thinkpad, but I'm not sure Lenovo can be trusted any more than Apple can, especially since Apple atleast pretends to care about customer security.

Re:Anatomy of a Binary Executable on Thursday November 05, 2020 @01:12AM (#24996040)
It may be worthwhile to point out that the example is built in debug mode, and also Rust is including the whole standard library in the output. Re-configuring some low hanging fruit [1] reduces the binary size on my test machine to 27K. This is still not small, granted.

The flipside of this would be that anyone from out-of-town would be shunned under the assumption that they had left their previous town for negative reasons.

As an American I don't think people like corporations feigning social intimacy either.

That would make a great coffee-table book. Some image on one page and a short narrative on the opposing page.

What about Microsoft Bob, can I use that?
> presume to be able to use company equipment

I think this is the central point. You can do all those things, but are you entitled to use company equipment to do so?

The term spying becomes less clear-cut in that context too. It's spying if I get your personal private communication, but monitoring one's own internal network would not normally be considered spying.

The suggestion is that these cities are potentially paying more money to the federal government than they get back in federal aid. The population is irrelevant.

I couldn't resist the urge to follow along and rewrite the code you've presented in Rust, and what do I find at midnight after finally getting it to work and running your test image through? You got me.

I'm hoping if it goes core they will allow importing the layout just like hideouts.
My understanding[1] was that these types of devices sync by sending a blob over bluetooth to the paired cell phone, and then the cell phone uploads this to the cloud to be decrypted. What kinds of devices are you talking about?
