For photo/video editors, the Pro screen alone is worth more than the entire laptop. To be clear, the Pro screen is equal to a professional HDR reference monitor, and the entire laptop costs less than a professional HDR reference monitor.
That's literally communism.
Re:HP is in the rent-a-printer business now on Sunday March 03, 2024 @08:05PM (#39586050)
Just to be clear, I don't think a "fair and free market" can be accomplished at all, ever. It's an incoherent concept and really just juvenile. Your comments and contradictions above are enough to illustrate why.
Re:HP is in the rent-a-printer business now on Sunday March 03, 2024 @09:00AM (#39580873)
No, I think it's a myth, propaganda.
Re:HP is in the rent-a-printer business now on Sunday March 03, 2024 @08:06AM (#39580577)
>Which should turn into an anti-trust action against HP by the government.

Or at least it would, were free-market capitalism still an actual goal.

It is curious that government intervention would be evidence of "free-market capitalism."

Re:Homeless Mortality Data on Sunday March 03, 2024 @01:05AM (#39578829)
This can't be repeated enough. We can't even take care of ourselves.
Simply not true. The US is constantly flooded with fresh immigrants who can get drivers licenses and drive for super cheap on unlivable wages.
Re:Old vs. new growth trees and the wood products they make on Saturday March 02, 2024 @12:15AM (#39570034)
so it's possible but not under capitalism
Re:Three companies own 19,000 rental houses in Atlanta, GA on Thursday February 29, 2024 @09:49AM (#39549996)
Capitalism is defined as a system of relations which prioritizes the right for one to exercise their existing capital to accumulate more of it, above everything else and indefinitely.

It's not "shady". It's just capitalism.

Re:Why I use Firefox on Wednesday February 28, 2024 @08:58AM (#39537962)
Does anyone have knowledge of whether we can expect Firefox to get HDR support in the near or distant future?
>or some personal bias of your own.

class bias most likely

Re:New FCC standards should consider latency on Wednesday February 28, 2024 @12:46AM (#39534481)
I agree with precisely all of the other answers so far. Any measurement would be as good or better than none. I'm curious what point you were trying to make though.
The ruling class colludes and bargains any and every way they please. Among l other things, it's hypocritical to suggest that labors shouldn't be allowed to do the same.
Re:US Used AI to Help Find Middle East Targets for Airstrikes on Tuesday February 27, 2024 @07:16PM (#39532135)
And? Is bombing them more supposed to change that?
Re:U.S. opens UnitedHealth antitrust probe on Tuesday February 27, 2024 @07:12PM (#39532099)
A friend of mine couldn't get his claims paid even as a UHC corporate employee. He ended up quitting his job at a health insurance company because he wanted functional health insurance.
Re:US Used AI to Help Find Middle East Targets for Airstrikes on Tuesday February 27, 2024 @07:04PM (#39532034)
What Americans asked for this? I know I didn't, and I'm absolutely sick of paying for it.
I can't imagine your point. Maybe you should clarify what it us, because the US is full of metros that would be extremely well served by modern train systems, and they would only grow as a result.
Re:Nintendo is suing the creators of Switch emulator Yuzu on Tuesday February 27, 2024 @06:16PM (#39531546)
The definition of capitalism is literally a system of economic relations that prioritizes the right to leverage one's existing capital to accumulate more capital, above everything else and indefinitely.
Re:Why Capital One Wants to Buy Discover on Monday February 26, 2024 @11:19PM (#39520108)
Wow, I couldn't have even imagined that is what's going on here, but I suppose it makes sense. I now have a bit more sympathy for it as well for some reason, despite my certain disapproval.
Re:Why Capital One Wants to Buy Discover on Monday February 26, 2024 @10:02PM (#39519656)
>but hey, it doesn’t hurt to have optionality

MBAs, financiers, venture capitalists, etc. have the most repulsive grammar/vocabulary. Why?

Re:Expedia to Eliminate 1,500 Jobs as Travel Growth Moderates on Monday February 26, 2024 @09:49PM (#39519576)
I hope you get your medal!
Re:Expedia to Eliminate 1,500 Jobs as Travel Growth Moderates on Monday February 26, 2024 @09:48PM (#39519565)
Hope all you'd like but that doesn't change the fact that they'll do whatever they want because you have no power.
Re:Expedia to Eliminate 1,500 Jobs as Travel Growth Moderates on Monday February 26, 2024 @09:45PM (#39519545)
>How could Expedia's PR department let this through?

It's for shareholders. Who cares about anyone else?

Re:New York medical school eliminates tuition after $1B gift on Monday February 26, 2024 @06:26PM (#39518135)
By the dictates of capitalism, this can never make a dent. If it does, it must be undermined.
Re:New York medical school eliminates tuition after $1B gift on Monday February 26, 2024 @06:24PM (#39518121)
Don't worry about that! It turns out capitalists are wonderful people so they deserve it!
Re:A bad day at the office on Monday February 26, 2024 @03:20PM (#39516298)
Which society is that????
Re:A bad day at the office on Monday February 26, 2024 @03:18PM (#39516286)
Thankfully my parents didn't live with such recklessness. With such nonsense floating around, we won't even have a society in a few generations because nobody can raise a family like that, and we should not be surprised that the few children we are producing have so many problems.
You can't justify your neoliberal capitalism on free consumer choice then just take that away as you please.

I suggest reorganizing society because there simply isn't another option. If meat were too expensive to eat, people would eat less of it, but it's not too expensive because capitalists can just outsource the cost of their destruction. This is fundamental to capitalism, which people forget is literally defined as an economic system that prioritizes the right of individuals to exercise their existing capital to accumulate more of it, above everything else.

Re:JSTOR is Now Available in 1k Prisons on Monday February 26, 2024 @12:05PM (#39513782)
The grade goes on your record, though. The time investment to complete the course with a satisfactory grade would negate the time I have to read the material.
Re:JSTOR is Now Available in 1k Prisons on Monday February 26, 2024 @11:48AM (#39513538)
For the material I wanted at the time, the solution was libgen. But yeah.
