Reading the abstract it would seem a good reason for positions in government like the President to be restricted to ages 40-65.
Well, after reading thru the comments I am clearly not the target audience. It was fun while it lasted. Anyone know how I can delete my account? I need to add it to all the other accounts that I have deleted.
Good luck to you all. I thought this was a tech news site but apparently most people here seem to be actively working in the investigation process.
I don't know WTF has gotten in to everyone but I don't want any part of it anymore.
Like, for real, let me know if there is a way to delete my account.
Just understand that the 737 Max was approved by the same government that tried running an election. Thanks but nope.
You know, I've never looked at it that way. But your probably right. Maybe I do like commercials after all.
At least it is unsolicited.
I think I despise marketing. For one marketers and spam calls have basically made me put my phone in airplane mode permantely, only allowing people in my contacts to get thru. I am getting close to the point of getting rid of my cell phone.
If I get unsolicited emails I set up a rule to send them straight to the trash can.
Mostly I am getting tired of every single interaction with a person or technology being used or designed to extract information or money. Don't get me wrong. I am willing to buy things. I just don't want to have to spend X amount of dollars for the rest of my life.
Do you have any links for the cheaper wood from SEA. I am always facinated about how things are cheaper to buy and cheap halfway around the world versus buying locally.
Start an email for her and send pictures and letters to it throughout her life. Then on her 18th birthday give her the email with all the memories.
Honestly, even if I knew of a bunch of potential markets I'm not sure I would won't you to know. Your motivation isn't that you care about a particular market or problem. It seems your just looking for the most efficient way to 10x your profit. Dispite knowing much about the people/ product/ market you may serve.
I've lost count of the things that I have used in the past that I have stopped using because the product sucks now and is of lower quality or they have blessed me with a subscription model that only cost $5 or $10 a month. Instead of sucking it up and paying for something once I have to die by a thousand cuts and pay for something the rest of my life if I want to use it. Sure it's great for the profits of that company but not for me.
So maybe that's the underserved market. A product that respects privacy and leaves you the heck alone.
Not that I am in favor of parasitic worms or anything but I would be careful to assume that erraticating helminths or any species for that matter would only be beneficial. I don't know where they fall in the food chain. Maybe they are essential for some other species to thrive that we depend on.
I’m not being sarcastic here but do you mean that my comment was correct? At least mostly.
The context of what I mean by saying that I am giving up is that institutions, government, and corporations are unreliable. I can't make decisions based on conditions as they are today because as soon as I do the rug will be pulled out from under me and leave me on my butt. This means that if I had a great idea for a business I will decide not to start that business. That vacation that I was planning won't happen anymore. Certain cities I may have been inclined to visit I won't enter anymore. Heck I even have to self-censor myself now for any thoughts I have because who knows who is going to get offended and try to prevent me from having a job, credit card, or even an opinion.
That is mostly what I mean.
Don't get me wrong about the efficiency gains. To a point I think it is great. But when everything is maximally efficient there is nothing to gain. Sure we could disrupt yet another industry but for every winner there is a loser.
Starvation and malnourishment are drastically lower due to industrial farming. But that was to the detrement of destroyed ecosystems, pollution, and greater government regulations. Heck, I believe that I was Michigan that was trying to prevent people from purchasing seeds to plant their own gardens.
Don't worry. I'm not actually all doom and gloom. I just don't think we are on the right track and we are heading of course. And this has been going on for a lot longer than 2016.
At this point I am even sure that being more efficient is better. From the context of economic opportunity the only ones that benefit are the rich and well connected. Now, I'm not one to bash "rich people" but think about it. If I was looking for a good deal for some land I could probably find one if I looked hard enough. Today it is pretty difficult to find land that isn't insanly expensive or too far away. Everything has already been bought up. The people that are well off and connected already learned 20 or 30 years ago where the land development were going to happen and they already bought the land.
As far as homeschooling is concerned. I spent 20 years in the military and the only thing that I observed that was a little awkward about the people that were home schooled was how they were around "authority". Meaning that they weren't as submissive to authority like everyone that went to a normal public school.
Honestly I think the government is too big and centralized. At this point is isn't much different that Soviet Russia back in the 80s and 90s. I think the reason the government can't do a good job is because it wasn't designed to operate the way it is now. We were supposed to be 50 states all doing what is best for them and not dictated by the federal government. The right decision for New York will probably not be the right decision for Wyoming and so forth.
To your comment about WWII. We had a common enemy and a common effort. This "wartime" economy pretty much envolved the entire economy and I would argue wasn't much different than what communism would be. Meaning that the central government pretty much controlled the means of production.
I have pretty much given up on everybody at this point. I have already pulled my kid from school and will not send them back. I am in a single income family and I am now working from home.
All actions and purchases at this point are to help us to become more independant from the system. Society and government at large has shown itself to be unreliable and undependable. I am also making longer term plans to move out of my current state.
So good luck everyone with the education system.
I think Winston Smith (1984) would disagree with having a "fitness" mirror in the home.
Careful with the word "whitewash". Might get banned in favor of some other stupid word like "cleanwash".
Won't work. As soon as it gains any traction hackers/crackers will figure out how to exploit people. Marketers will figure out how to optimise it to sell you crap you don't need. Left wing/ Right wing censors and moderators will silence at least a portion of the users if not the whole project because "reasons". Oh yeah, the government will also be there to ensure that you can't do anything without them knowing about it.
Honestly the web could be great with the technologies that are out now. At this very moment. But it isn't.
I tried that for a while. Then I realized I spend most of my time on Twitter, FB, etc. hiding or deleting ads. So I just deleted all of my social media accounts.
Can't wait to go down this road.
Hey you don't like it. Just become a doctor and fix yourself. Healthcare isn't a right.
Hey you don't like it. Just get you own water, filter it, and clean it. Clean water isn't a right.
Is this really the answer?
It would also depend on what that member was doing. Since the military also falls under the UCMJ they held to a different standard. Sexual assault is obviously illegal for the person doing it but under the UCMJ if you know about or saw something happen and didn't report it you could also be held accountable.
While a lot of military members don't like the UCMJ I think it is pretty effective. It is more then a set of laws in that it regulates conduct on and off the battlefield.
Back in the years from 2003 to around 2008 Iraq was very dangerous and hostile. You should check out the historical press releases from the DOD. The ones where the DOD announced the casualties. It was depressing. However, there were always people enlisting in the military and in fact the USMC and the Army expanded.
I think going to a term of enlistment would be a good think and would allow the police department to only retain the best. The default could be that the police department could only retain 50% of the first term police officers.
I'm a retired Marine. I wonder how much the retirement system of the military effects the decision. Although it just change a couple of years ago the retirement was an all or nothing deal. You do your 20 years or more and you can retire. You do 19 or less you get nothing.
The military, and I believe the USMC, can be downright hostile to it members. Just being able to retire is more like survival of the fittest. I can't tell you how many good Marines have been kicked out or not allowed to reenlist for poor decisions.
The USMC also has a up or out policy. You either get promoted or you get out and later on in your career you might have to retire or wait for someone else to leave the service so you can get promoted.
TBH, it won't be any different under socialism. In fact it will probably be the same a-holes.
I hear you on the /r/cheesemaking, although for me it is gardening. Unfortunately I spend most of my waking hours on a computer for both work and play. It didn't really hit me until the quarentine that I don't hardly do anything that doesn't require looking at a screen and it really kind of makes me mad. It wasn't always like this.
For some reason I feel like this is more of a way to reduce payroll and eventually outsourse most of the company. If everyone is working remote then it is only a small step to offshore everyone at that point.
Edit: Wrong word used
At this point not really. As soon as that browser started to gain traction I'm pretty sure that the company would cash out to the next highest bidder and sell any and every scrap of information they find valuable.
