larry's big ego couldn't take it - being left out of the hypetrain.

he was living good - enjoying massive profits from his various moats but nah he had to risk it for the paramount deal, then stargate.

Re:Anthropic's growth just flattened (really) on Monday November 02, 2026 @06:21PM (#50345570)
my simplified take is the headwind is on two ends - smaller models being sufficient enough & open weight models then second utility of 'a.i' is maximal when deployed with humans i.e engineers applying a.i on top of current applications putting an agent layer on top.

the second part is not sexy - but we see all a.i labs having fde arms e.g ode, microsoft frontier company etc but then again that's the part you can't hype.

I just use a simple approach - print-to-pdf
Re:The Megadonors Who Have Poured $1.2B into the Midterms on Monday November 02, 2026 @06:34AM (#50335522)
for US politics to go back to normal - there should be a limit on the money a candidate can raise from donors.

no more PACs. limit ad-runs to two a day.

because the ads are just lies and hogwash - they don't even spread ideas or inform voters.

bending spoons acquires products that already have users / customers though.

the software is hardly any difficult but sales or customer acquisition.

Re:Casio Watches of the 1980s on Sunday November 01, 2026 @09:59AM (#50326305)
lately their gshock and timeless collection watches have become really fashionable.
Re:The AI cost of JavaScript frameworks on Sunday November 01, 2026 @09:48AM (#50326216)
not a surprise - frameworks or libraries that were easier for humans e.g htmx, hono (expressjs like) are also easier for agents.

Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @07:06AM (#50314894)
thing with Mugabe n his government - those guys were mostly just lawyers and other PHDs in things social studies etc

they grew up on communist rhetoric, got support from communist countries - so their main ideology had already failed in the real world. so accumulating degrees without practical experience is a recipe for failure as seen in most african countries.

Re:Serbia just elected the world's brainiest parliament on Saturday October 31, 2026 @07:03AM (#50314876)
good thing they're stem oriented. serbia can only go up from here.

vs electing lawyers as done in other countries.

Re:French national assembly votes 0.055€/GB internet tax on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:19PM (#50308905)
piracy wins again.

even if content providers are paying - it still inhibits consumption as content providers simply pass the cost to the consumer.

imagine netflix vs megaupload. megaupload or any of those or torrents - they could be registered entities or none but they r not gonna pay. consumers will simply get their content from those sites vs the official ones.

show me the incentives and I will show you the outcome as charlie munger said.

Re:StackOverflow now gets fewer than 1000 questions a month on Thursday October 29, 2026 @07:08PM (#50297529)
for one thing those guys proved how far you could go on commodity hardware and a little bit of nice engineering.
Re:If IPv4 Were Land on Thursday October 29, 2026 @06:58PM (#50297433)
at a certain point in time there has to be a forcing function or event that causes people to migrate from ipv4 to ipv6.
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:50PM (#50293160)
the best grocery delivery experience was from UK supermarkets - tesco.

none of this instacart nonsense. because it's the actual grocery shop delivering your order - you're not up-charged, your groceries tend to be of good quality no breakage etc cz they want you to return.

with instacart it's pervase incentives all the way down - spoiled fruit - instacart can blame the grocer, breakages same. grocer doesn't even know who ordered.

Re:Google Search is now less than half of Alphabet’s revenue on Thursday October 29, 2026 @01:46PM (#50293094)
Google cloud could've been more if they didn't drop the ball.
thing with wordpress - you're dealing with the worst type of clients.

so the whole ecosystem should disappear.

Re:Two high-speed trains collide near Toledo, Spain on Thursday October 29, 2026 @08:40AM (#50288003)
seems very negligent. trains shouldn't be colliding in this day and age - given modern signal systems etc
daylight savings came as a result of fuel shortages.

just unnecessary pain of switching clocks back n forth twice a year. people should move on from that system.

Re:Mac Studio M5 Ultra 512GB Officially Released on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:10PM (#50278305)
chinese memory providers can't come online soon enough.

prices shoot by just choosing the 128gb option and even worse the 512gb option.

he's a wannabe dictator.

yeah - he's shaken u.s institutional protections to their core. but lucky they keep standing. maybe he or someone else will finally make a break through - but most likely it won't be trump due to his incompetency and him surrounding himself with 'yes' incompetent people.

if fly.io has servers based in the U.S by all means the gvt has access to those logs legally and illegally.
over the long run land-leases have proven effective e.g with Shenzhen.

the people that need the land - lease it first - develop it. if you don't develop it - you don't realize any gain from it. thereby removing speculation.

such as ? mind you I love stablecoins but for a person in a normal economy they make 0 cents to use.
crypto still trying to find PMF beyond speculation after 10+ years is the crazy thing to me.

asset tokenization doesn't have to be tied to crypto.

the legit use cases for crypto i.e people in poor countries etc are not exactly a demographic for VCs or investors to pump money into.

Re:Genie 4 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @03:52PM (#50264823)
all the things you've dreamt of - your vivid dreams - now you can replay them.

for all the a.i misery with hardware prices i.e ram.

such a wonderful world we live in now.

most people in the west ie US and western europe if they haven't travelled to africa etc and other '3rd world countries' miss the solar revolution.

what china has done is massive - cheap solar panels & batteries - means a lot of places that never had grid connections suddenly have power 24/7 for cheap. with electric cars / hybrid cars from china - means even transportation is now cheap too. some places even have those electric mopeds too.

nothing beats free energy from the sun.

Re:Anthropic S-1 on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @07:48AM (#50257717)
religious monarchy - you mean musk & the muskites.
it's not just windows.

looking at azure - the traditional .net shops will insist on mssql instead of cosmosdb - when cosmosdb might fit their needs.

so many things wrong in the m$ ecosystem that could be fixed with m$ showing a little bit of care and deploying knowledgable engineers or resources to empower their customers.

Re:Anthropic S-1 on Monday October 26, 2026 @01:11PM (#50247262)
if i read the s-1 correctly - at current burn rates if anthropic doesn't raise additional money - they go poof in 2 years ?

losses vs assets at hand.

microsoft should ideally be doing the reverse. hiring more workers or re-skilling.

they've the most deployed software in the world - the software is inadequate most of the times (i.e full of bugs). 2nd the software is prone to misuse cz M$ doesn't have enough people listening to customers and making software meet the needs of its users.

if there was a company that should've done the Forward deployed thingy is Microsoft.
