You also already pay sales tax on your internet service, but that's not what we're discussing here

I'm sure it's fantastic, but "It improves the quality of my vacations" is still very much in line with "completely unnecessary"

Really? The rumors are that their margins on tokens is quite healthy. That doesn't seem like loss-leading to me.

And they all have as many laptops and desktops as the want, too
Plenty of grids have different sorts of net metering ratios, grid maintenance fees, etc. But it's nothing compared to what you'd be paying taking power off of the grid, and there is a break-even period often measured in single-digit years. I still do not understand the point of what the GP was trying to make w.r.t. "taxes".
How do you figure that works?
Solar panels (which continue get cheaper every year) on my house makes charging my low-TCO EV free in 5 years
Re:Airbnb bans making guests do dishes and take out the trash on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:18PM (#50189435)
For the last 30 years were they charging a mandatory $150 cleaning fee, even if you're only staying 1 night?
Re:Voxtral 3 on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @12:49PM (#50169190)
I think the special sauce of this isn't the STT/TSS (although it does appear to be quite good) - it's the integration of a real-time reasoning model to actually do something with the raw text of the conversation, and whatever they're doing to hide tool call latency if the model needs to search for something.

The "Explore the latest" section is nearly blank for me - are there supposed to be diagrams or visual aids, or is it one headline and sentence taking up the whole page on cards?

Re:RIP, vector database on Friday October 02, 2026 @01:16PM (#49936018)
Databases, like filesystems, are one of those pieces of infrastructure you do not want to build yourself unless you have a really good reason. They're complex, and you will not catch all the bugs yourself.

Re:Factorio that you can touch on Friday September 25, 2026 @06:06PM (#49850555)
This is such a wild take, I'm not sure where to start. Let's just consider this:

> Barring things like textures and others.

Other than some really expensive stuff, it's not expensive. Who could have guessed?

They won't implement surveillance pricing for parking fees, if that's what you meant to say.
Over what period of time, and how many miles? How does that rate compare with other LKAS / ACC systems? Were they using the experimental vison-based distance estimation system & comma driven longitudinal control, or the car's stock radar based ACC (which bypasses comma control entirely)?

There's not enough details in the article to say if the comma contributed or not to the crashes.

This is a 45 second vibeslop video that tells me nothing other than “it’s a one shot classifier” which I doubt is the interesting or useful part.

I see them fairly often in Seattle

If they’re spending millions on faking an image, okay fine. That’s clearly not the security model intended for this feature though.
