repubicons are intent on dissolving the federal govt. I'd say we need to impeach, except we can't because the Johnson refuses to convene
learn React and get a software engineering job

work out and read books to get your mind under control

follow Dave Ramsey's financial advice and stop making excuses

"combine them for now and separate them later if needed"

Thats a load of bull. more like they are just doing Putin's bidding by dismantling the US federal government
in my experience trying to do full time contracting at half that rate, I found it difficult to maintain a full pipeline of work while also prospecting for future clients / supporting old clients.

it was very much feast or famine. Anybody with the budget to pay a solid rate is smart enough to watch the contract closely and get rid of the expense as soon as possible. No client who pays that kind of rate wants to share your attention and time with other clients.

Need a routine for responding to inquiries vs doing deep work.

And then there's taxes (put aside at least 25%, quarterly payments) and what about health care or not having formal PTO.

No easy answers but these are the struggles I faced. Eventually i went back to corporate gigs to stabilize my finances.

Re:Ask HN: Possible US Alliance with Russia? on Saturday February 15, 2025 @09:30AM (#43058767)
Trump has been a russian agent for years. The Mueller Report sketches it out. His mission is to destroy the United States as a liberal democracy. Clear and present danger
pretty common for senior engineer at a corporate gig

not so common for jr roles / small biz / non-tech companies

burn up instead of burn down

Re:Ask HN: Quitting a Toxic Job in a Hurry? on Thursday February 15, 2024 @07:15PM (#39391230)
it takes at least a month to land and start a new tech job. Sorry for your situation but I'd suggest 3-4 month game plan. Dont quit your current job till u confirm a new one. But dont feel obligated to give your toxic employer any notice if u get an opportunity to start instantly.
Express + Vue

wanna try Astro though

seems useful but i'd gander the time is better spent building a blog/youtube channel, or starting that company
far out dude
I followed Garry since the old days of Posterous. Seems like 5 years ago he took a turn and got obsessed with edge lordy SF politics. Finally I had to unfollow. Too much money has corrupted all the original startup role models
hybrid is the best! the company I work for does 1 day a week in-office for local employees, that's perfect
delegating/outsourcing always comes with an overhead cost that is usually equal to the original amount of resources, although it may shift to different category of resources

but simplification and ruthless prioritization always pay off

Just a stalking horse for trump, propped up by the tech nazis

Re:Ask HN: Terrified I wont find another job on Sunday December 17, 2023 @03:06AM (#38671163)
build a website for yourself

pretend to be confident

remember companies hire techies to solve problems. be a solution

and long term, build something. sometimes its easier to just go make money on the internet than to make it thru these overbaked interview processes

build something and launch it. charge money for it. publish about it. repeat.

check out @indiehackers and @levelsio, and the book "start small stay small" by rob walling

what they said, also build something and publish it on the internet
