> The energy turnover of 1.3 gigajoule was achieved with an average heating power of 2.7 megawatts, whereby the discharge lasted 480 seconds.
Can a physicist/thermal engineer explain what this means?
> Experiments have been unable to find a binary encoding that is smaller or faster than a plain text encoding
Why does postgres do it then?
Can you share your opinions on appendix and cancer?
> fertility rates tend to fall below the level needed to maintain the population, 2.1 children per woman.
Why 2.1 and not 2?
You need $50k worth of hardware to run gpt4.
That's probably how we'll see AI take over. AI will prescribe and humans will do the manual labor.
It might be possible to create a new kind of transistor that turns on/off by changing the superconductivity of the conducting material.
First they came for writers and I didn't say anything because I wasn't a writer.
Is apt update && apt upgrade enough for pop-os users?
Los alamos used a room full of women for doing simulations when their IBM machine was out of order:
We needed a man to repair the machines, to keep them going and everything. And
the army was always going to send this fellow they had, but he was always delayed.
Now, we always were in a hurry. Everything we did, we tried to do as quickly as
possible. In this particular case, we worked out all the numerical steps that the machines
were supposed to do — multiply this, and then do this, and subtract that. Then we worked
out the program, but we didn’t have any machine to test it on. So we set up this room with
girls in it. Each one had a Marchant: one was the multiplier, another was the adder. This
one cubed — all she did was cube a number on an index card and send it to the next girl.
We went through our cycle this way until we got all the bugs out. It turned out
that the speed at which we were able to do it was a hell of a lot faster than the other way,
where every single person did all the steps. We got speed with this system that was the
predicted speed for the IBM machine. The only difference is that the IBM machines
didn’t get tired and could work three shifts. But the girls got tired after a while.
Now translate the 20 minute tutorial to mini.
No surprises here. The entire architecture is based on mass production. There is an immutable base model and the only mutable part is the chat context. There is fine tuning but it takes a long time and there is no temporal relation between the fine tuning prompts. Even then it costs a ton of money. This immutable model is shared among all the users of their services. There has to be a supercomputer version of this product that focuses on quality over quantity.
Surprised he lived so long. Maybe because he was a celebrity so he received good care. Level 3s have an average lifespan of 30-40 years.
That's twice the average yearly salary. Still pretty low though.
How is it more dangerous than nukes and ICBMs?
Did anyone ever create a video player titled xvideo?
Windows phones are gone. Why would they want to make MS Office touch friendly? I don't understand why they removed the lines between buttons. This is what made the old UI look organized.
Why did it get deleted from Play Store?
Why is pc modem hardware so rare? I would love to use my laptop to make telephone calls directly but cannot find anything on Amazon that does this.
"Janus the fifth" and "KD6-3.7"
How do I play it? "gzdoom myhouse.wad" doesn't work. "gzdoom -wad myhouse.wad" doesn't work either. There's also a pk3 file in the drive. What is it for?
Just a virtual machine that runs a lisp os. Might as well just run clojure on jvm
