News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

drsnow

Holy shit.

Gender is factually, as evidenced via a multitude of highly respected scientific studies conducted by a vast majority of respected experts both medical and psychological, distinct in every way from biological sex.

There is genuinely no room for opinion, disagreement, or dispute on that subject, at all. To disagree is to be, objectively, incorrect.

I can see where you are coming from in a purely politically motivated sense, yes. But the medical and psychological facts do not actually care about politics, and transgender individuals exist regardless of your belief in them.

Re:How does Fable 5.1 hide messages in images? on Friday October 23, 2026 @08:00AM (#50207594)
You cannot possibly be serious. JS is one of the foremost ways of fingerprinting and identifying users that exists, if not THE foremost way.

And considering this site is "HACKER news", I'd wager that thought process is not at all rare or unexpected.

Additionally the content of this linked URL could easily and fully be conveyed in pure HTML with no need for JS.

Humans most certainly did not evolve to be religious. We evolved to look for and, if necessary (to our minds), invent meanings behind things which sometimes have truly no meaning at all, i.e. the existence of existence itself. We also evolved to be fearful of the unknown, e.g. the experience of death and afterward. It seems quite simple to see how those two things resulted in our eventual invention of religion, but we did not simply evolve to be religious per se.
Firefox users also tend to disable telemetry and any kind of phoning home whatsoever.
Re:Magic/tragic email links: don't make them the only option on Wednesday January 08, 2025 @06:23AM (#42633087)
Genuinely: why? All that is related to the business email is already accessible, it's just been forwarded elsewhere. The info is already known. What's to discover?
Literally every payment is used for illegal crap. I fail to see the relevance of that point.
Re:Welcome to Ladybird, a truly independent web browser on Tuesday July 02, 2024 @05:25PM (#40860576)
In what ways? I'm curious as I have been under the impression it's no longer much of a difference in the way it used to be.
I'd imagine by insourcing.

Exactly how is cryptocurrency merely a "money laundering scheme"?
No company is obligated to do anything. Such lack of obligation is not sufficient reason to praise companies that do the bare minimum to keep user data safe. Sure they aren't obligated but how on earth does that matter?

Re:Tailscale Has Partnered with Mullvad on Friday September 08, 2023 @01:46AM (#37429851)
Private trackers are the solution to this problem
Re:Tailscale Has Partnered with Mullvad on Friday September 08, 2023 @01:24AM (#37429690)
This is simply a false dichotomy and that you don't realize such is damning
Re:'Human Embryo Model' Without Sperm or Egg on Thursday September 07, 2023 @04:54AM (#37416352)
If metaphysics were real, it'd just be called physics.
Re:Why privatisation has been a costly failure in Britain on Tuesday July 11, 2023 @09:42AM (#36680840)
This is the way the world works now and anyone who disputes the justification of it just gets neatly added to the pile of "complaints" burned by elites for warmth.

Animals have the instinct to shit in front of you and not feel the slightest discomfort doing so too. Should we all start shitting in front of each other to more closely align our behavior to animal instincts?
Re:Easy HTTPS for your private networks on Tuesday July 11, 2023 @07:18AM (#36679365)
Are you being facetious or do you actually believe this?
You will find, in time, that nobody has an actual answer to this. It's purely nerd-lust for not doing things the simple way
There is no sane person on earth doing this kind of thing to save money. That's entirely missing the point
Do you ever get the feeling you're just inventing asinine problems for yourself to waste time solving?
I don't understand how or why this defeatist, nihilistic attitude is growing in popularity. Do people just lack the self awareness to realize their inaction is tantamount to malice?
Can't you set your client to sync a specific folder and simply relocate the things you want synced to said folder?
>(as part of the meal, not as an assistant)

Did that really need to be said?

Re:Why Gravity Is Not Like the Other Forces on Saturday April 29, 2023 @04:12PM (#35756692)
Right, so those kinds of energy also induce spacetime curvature and are included in what I was saying
Re:Why Gravity Is Not Like the Other Forces on Thursday April 27, 2023 @12:24AM (#35723290)
A measure of a particle's energy as pertains to the spacetime curvature it induces
You can't be serious. As if going line by line would make it any clearer why the software is doing what it's doing when it's obfuscated with so many neurons and layers that there's no way to grasp the entirety of the system through code alone.
Re:U.S. crypto exchange Coinbase secures Bermuda licence on Saturday April 22, 2023 @01:13AM (#35663558)
Is that not the case?
How are you/authorities defining hiding? Is it hiding if he wasn't trying to evade anything and LE were just too slow in identifying him?
