Most of the other manufacturers are using a urea injection system to neutralize NOx emissions. VW was able to skip that (up until the 2015 model year, around when the initial report made its way to VW) because of the cheat. It's at least plausible that cars with a urea injection system are compliant.

A hijacker can alter the scripts you are serving up in order to ddos another system:

The coffee trial is one of my pet peeves. The lady had severe burns on her legs, genitals and torso. She had to go to the icu, and then to a burn clinic, and then later went through at least one round of surgery. The location that served the coffee had been written up for the temperature being way too high, but no one ever acted on it. IIRC that penalty was appealed, and I think they settled on a lesser amount later.

Also, part of having a healthy justice system is having the ability to sue for literally any, or no reason. In an ideal world a flagrant lawsuit would just get thrown out without any harm to either party. Unfortunately we've built a system where a suit can bankrupt either party, so it turns into a war of attrition.

My understanding is that low settings used to make stealth units easer to see in SC2 (and heroes of the storm, which is on the SC2 engine). Supposedly they've patched it in newer versions, but I'm sure people who've logged a ton of hours in low modes still prefer it.

In HotS some of the ability effects show through the fog of war, and supposedly that's easier to spot on low settings still. It also reduces the business on the screen when everyone in the game is teamfighting in one area.
